Just out of interest, is there anyone else who's based on the South-East of our fair land? I live in Chepstow, perilously close to the border with England - just wondered if there were any more NaNo-ers in range.

As ML, I organise the meet-ups in Cardiff - but that doesn't stop me getting together with anyone who lives more locally. It's always great to meet more mad people who think it's a good idea to spend a whole month typing!!

I'm near Blackwood, so Newport is closer for me than Cardiff if there are enough people to organise a few Newport based meets too? Im up for as many crazy write-ins as possible! xx

Hiya folks! Good to see you again Jaywalker. A bit late signing up this year...I sold my October to (whaty feels like) the biggest swap ever on craftster.org. Lol. But it's over now and as always I'm well up for a meeting in Newport if it can be arranged! :) This year I won't be on holiday for half of nano so I'm feeling good about this one!

I'm in Abergavenny...or near enough to make no difference. Also perilously close to the border, really!

This is going to be my first NaNo, so it's nice to see some more (fairly) local people are doing this. It was beginning to feel as though I'm the only one! Whenever I've mentioned it to friends the reaction has been a bit NaNoWhoNow?

Okay - let's bite the bullet. how does Sunday 16th November sound for a lunchtime meet-up in Newport?

Also - would someone care to recommend a meeting place? Pubs are good, cafes are good, provided they are:

Open at the right time;
Happy for under-18s to attend;
Fully accessible for wheelchair users;
Not likely to be crowded

It also helps if they're unlikely to be scared by all of us descending on them. Any ideas?

There's a wetherspoons pub by the railway station in Newport, which will be open at that time. I think it used to be called Yates? Anyway, you can't miss it. How's that?

And Sunday 16th sounds like a good halfway point to me :-)

Wetherspoons are always a good idea - they'll let anyone in! Does anyone know the name of it or do I need to start Googling?

I don't know the name of it I'm afraid, and Google didn't help me at all. I'm wondering if I've made a mistake. It happens often! But I'd put money on the fact that there is a newly opened wetherspoons directly opposite the train station. If not, there's quite a few pubs on that stretch of road, and being a Sunday afternoon I don't see it'd be an issue having under 18s in, as many will be serving lunches. Ho Hum. I'll get my thinking cap on :)

The Wetherspoons nearest the train station is The John Wallace Linton. I'm from just outside Newport, in Cwmbran.

Great!

So - Sunday 16th November (the day before my birthday), starting at noon in the John Wallace Linton.

I always suggest we wear hats for meet-ups, as this helps us find each other in a pub. It's not compulsory, but it means you can easily spot me as I will be wearing a purple hat. Being a Wetherspoons, they'll offer food, if anyone wants to get lunch there.

Please post a message if you're likely to join us - just to convince me I won't be sat in a pub on my own!

Look forward to seeing you there.

I'll be there =)
I do believe that's the day they're turning the christmas lights on, so town is likely to be pretty busy.
I won't wear a hat, but I will have bright hair, probably pink or blue =)
Looking forward to it

#bump#

Just moving this one up the list to make sure people see it.

I will be wearing a purple hat (one of my collection) and I'll look out for anyone else wearing a hat / sporting brightly coloured hair.

Following the success of doing this at our Cardiff meeting, I suggest we have a little writing competition. If folks are agreeable, I'll ask for a contribution (50p) to a "prize fund", and we all vote for the piece of writing we liked the best. The winner gets a prize (maybe more than one, depends how many enter). I'll supply the prize(s) and prompt - you guys just supply the fund and writing! Of course, like everything else, participation is entirely your choice, but it can be great fun.

Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday!
