I was going to head this up on our side before life threw me a curveball and I ended up where I am moving to New Mexico which MAY make me ineligible to compete, much less head up.
I think there is interest though, yes. I am sure SweetMelissa will be chiming in as soon as they figure it out.

Yes! there will be a Challenge this year. Austin Penguins and Houston Lushes versus the Maryland Crabs! Maryland won last year and we want a rematch. The Challenge will be managed by Austin's own Breca_Halley who is also the new Co-ML for the Austin Region. (For those of you who know and love Flickguy - he's taking a break from NaNWriMo this year.) Breca_Halley and I will get together and post a topic regarding Challengers. I encourage everyone to take part in the Challenge.
The Challenge is much like a word war. Austin and Houston team up and compete with Maryland to see who can write the most words among the Challengers. It's a great motivator to get you writing every day. So stay tuned for more info on the Challenge, 2008!

LOL all they want is for you to do your best, all they ask is the same that NaNo asks for. It is a word war, but a fun one. I am insanely competitive so the fun was in being so far ahead it is nuts (Although Caeraerie beat me in even that. *grumble grumble*.
