There seem to be a bunch of people in the Costa Mesa/Huntington Beach area. I'd like to have aTuesday evening write-in in Costa Mesa from 5pm to whenever. However, I don't know that area that well, so I don't know what cafe would be a good choice. Any ideas?

That sounds swell...afraid I'm not too familiar with the area yet though. I'll ask my brother next I see him; he's a bit more of a local.

Would be nice, except my Novel Writing Workshop is at 6 at OCC. How ironic!
As a suggestion, the people in my class have hijacked The Lab at Baker & Bristol on Weds at 1:30pm to do their writing. So perhaps that would be a good place?

The LAB is an awesome venue. However, how is the outlet situation there?

The Starbucks at Harbor and Wilson is really nice. Nice seating space inside or out, and plugs. Maybe someone could bring a power strip. 5pm seems a bit early, so I like the until whenever part. :)

I'm sadly not that familiar with the Costa Mesa area, but I'll be around there this week, so I'll try to scope something out, see what I can come up with.

The reason I start it at 5 is that my class on Tuesdays gets out at 4.30, and I don't want to drive back to Irvine just to drive back to Costa Mesa...but if people want to stay there for hours on end, I'm game. :-)

I am not exactly sure...A friend does readings there and it can transform "into an event space for music, art and dance exhibits." In more words, from the my space profile:

Yeah, that doesn't say anything about their facility, what they can do for us, etc. It also doesnt say how much it will cost. Or even what exactly they ARE, just their mission.

Well, since we're having our first write-in there, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf sounds like it would be a decent place to have regular write-ins. Never been there, myself, but Strahbary says it's pretty computer-user friendly, and according to their website, they have free wi-fi.

Sorry if this is an odd question, but which write-in is that? And where is The Coffee Bean in Costa Mesa? Have we picked that location for sure (it sounds excellent to me)? Just trying to get my bearings.

I don't think it's on the calender, but it's discussed in the events/calender/etc. thread. It's a kick-off write-in set for November 1st at 2pm, and I think it is now officially at the Coffee Bean in Costa Mesa. ^_^

I like the idea of the tuesday night write-in being close to the 55. I don't get out of work until 5 so I will be getting there late. If we don't like the coffee bean and tea leaf there is always the borders thats near by.
To answer your question Page, the coffee bean and tea leaf is in the shopping center behind triangle square. There is a link to directions in the events/calender/etc forum.

Both are officially at the coffee bean by triangle square. I just added it to google!

Thanks, all, for clearing that up for me. I'll be at the first day write-in (now that I know about it - guess I better read that forum more carefully!) and the weekly Costa Mesa ones, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
Is it November yet? Pretty please?

It was great writing with you guys!
Now, I have a few questions. This tuesday is going to be the election, and I won't be able to attend the write-in. Do you guys still want to do it?
Also, on Tues 11/11, that Coffee Bean is going to be doing a free drink giveaway event during the time of our write-in. I predict a noisy zoo. Do we want to have it somewhere else that day?

Ah, excellent questions, indeed!
Myself, I'm still up for tomorrow's write-in if anyone else wants to do it. I probably won't go if no one else does.
As for the 11th, choosing a different location would probably be best. Anyone have any ideas? There's a Starbucks a block away from my college campus. It looks like it has fairly decent seating, but I've never been inside. There might not be any outlets or Wi-Fi, either. I can look into it, though, if anyone is interested.

Hey there!!
I am sorry, BUT I cannot quite figure the where and when's of what's been decided on the write-ins in my area? There has been so many ideas flyin' around and I have missed some posts.
Could you write and established schedule out for the "Wrimo'ers"
Thanks!!! All the best, Lisa

If you go to the stickied thread "Events/calendar/etc" and click on the calendar link in the first post, it'll send you to a calendar that has all the Orange County events listed for the month. It should also have the addresses for all the places. Hope that helps!
And, in case anyone was wondering, I won't be going to tonight's write-in.

for next Tuesday, the 11th...
There is Starbucks at Harbor and Wilson (in the Home Depot/Albertsons center). Nice seating, plugs (someone could bring a power strip for more plugs). Starbucks does not have free wifi, but you can get the free wifi from EZ Lube across the street most times.
Also, there is Brandee's at Harbor and Wilson (in the Kmart/Office Depot center). They have nice seating, plugs, and free wifi. Again, someone could briong a power strip too. This place is usually pretty quiet.

So I stopped by the Starbucks I was talking about. There are a couple outlets and decent seating. Still not sure about the Wi-Fi, but I'm guessing it's the same as any other Starbucks.
Also, if none of the spots Libby and I mentioned work, there's always the Borders Strahbery mentioned that's near the Coffee Bean.

How bout parking, though, red? I used to go to that starbucks when I rode at the fairgrounds, and parking was always kinda fun (fun meaning awful).
Does Brandee's work for everyone this coming tues?

There's a hitch! Brandee's is open from 8am - 8pm. This place may be better for a daytime get together. Sorry about that...just saw the times.

Ah, very true. Didn't even consider the parking for you driving folk. It probably would be a problem, especially at that time of the day.
Brandee's works for me. As for it closing at 8, I imagine that shouldn't be a problem. It starts at 5, and I think 3 hours is plenty of time. Course, that is only speaking for me. Maybe some of you would like to hang out longer than 3 hours.

A three hour time slot would be fine for me. Brandee's has great parking.
