Hey, how many people in the Tucson region are reasonably close to the University of Arizona campus?
I'm new to the Tucson area and most (ok, all) of your directions confuse me. How many of us are in the vicinity of UA.

I'm a straight shot north from the U of A. Some people, when I say I live near the U of A, think I'm wildly exaggerating, and some people will agree I'm fairly close. Anyhow, I'm at Grant and 1st; Euclid turns into 1st just at Grant which is a few blocks south of Speedway. :)
I suppose that counts as "reasonably" close. :)

Hi all,
If there's anyone who would be interested in meeting up for an alternate kick off near the campus (24-hr coffee shop maybe? worst case scenario, the library?) I'd be up for it. IHOP sounds great but I'm limited to my own two feet and the bus (which doesn't run that late). I live near Grant and Tucson and I've heard the Coffee X-Change at Grant and Campbell is open around the clock. It would be a mile from campus, so if people have other suggestions...
Also, I wanted to share this:

A great map of places by "Ron" for possible writing if you're new to Tucson.

The CoffeeXchange at Campbell & Grant is definitely open 24/7, and I know that at least a few wrimos in years past have used it both as their private writing sanctuary and as a spot for informal meetups with other writers.
(That said, the crowd that will show up at IHOP for the kickoff will probably include a few folks headed back towards campus on their way home. Wrimos are mostly nice people; I've been doing Nanowrimo since 2005 without a car, and have yet to be left stranded. :) Though it couldn't hurt to have on hand a couple of dollars for gas money to give to your generous wrimo-with-a-car.)
There's decent but not spectacular power plug availability at that CoffeeXchange; if you plan to meet with several people with laptops, it might be wise to bring along a power strip with a long-ish cord. Parking can be tight in the evenings, but after midnight on Nov. 1 it might not be so bad.
I should note that, from personal experience, the creativity gnomes at that CoffeeXchange tend to come out in full force after 1 or 2AM, especially if you're well-caffeinated, so if you're there that late some evening and have no plans for the following day, be prepared to settle in for a deluge of wacky inventiveness... ;)

I'm about ten mins from campus (on foot) and I have a car so... I'm on campus five days a week for either class or work. Seriously. I should just live there. but I'm down for write-ins since I missed all of last years. They used to do them in the ILC if anyone likes that idea. or the starbucks on University might work.

I live three blocks south of campus in a tiny awesome house. Sometimes I sleep in the PAS building because programming is evil, so if you see somebody asleep on the couch in the empty undergrad lounge, it's probably me.
I have a car and can pretty much always (VERY HAPPILY -- you have no idea, I love doing stuff for people) offer rides to on-campus dorm-living (or right near campus) people who want to go to write-ins, etc. Unfortunately I can't really offer rides to the kickoff because my roomie is having a bunch of out of town wrimos over so I'll be kicking it up with them.
It's awesome to see so many UA students doing this! We should have our own little on-campus write-in some day.
[EDIT:] Actually, I take that back . . . I CAN offer a ride to anybody who wants to go to the kickoff at 6 at the library and can get said people home, but I can't offer rides to or from the write-in at midnight at the IHOP. Anybody interested? I'll check this post during the day tomorrow (ugh, today) up until 5PM-ish (leave some way to get in contact with you or something!), or you can AIM me (weltschmerzy) with your number or leave a message on my LiveJournal (emptybackpack) if you want a ride.
