Hello again.
In Fort Collins we have a tradition of having what's called a Kick-Off Party. This is an excuse to get together one last time before the writing begins, and it also gives us a chance to start writing as soon as the calendar strikes November (if, indeed, it does such a thing). Many of us do use this event as a way to get a head-start on our novels (which we are not allowed to do until midnight, the morning of November 1st). Others prefer to come just for the festivities beforehand, and then head home for a full night of rest before tackling their novel the next day. Either approach is valid and everyone is welcome. (If you have other plans or do not wish to come, that is also valid, and we will still welcome you in the forums or at other events.)
Last year we rented out a local coffee shop, La Dolce Vita from 10pm to 1am. Given the rate of growth over the past years, I think that venue might be a little small for us this year. Unfortunately, October 31st (Halloween) falls on a Friday, so I think most other venues will either be booked full, or be too expensive for us to afford.
Here's what we need from you. Please tell us if:
1) you know of a venue that will accommodate roughly 40-60 people (and their laptops) on Halloween
2) you plan on coming to the Kick Off Party
In the meantime, we will tentatively plan on having the Kick-Off at our house, as we have plenty of space here. We await your reply and will post more details when a final decision is reached.

I believe both Lisa and I will be attending. I don't currently have any great ideas for a venue, however.

I will definitely be at the Kick-Off party. Kurt is on a business trip and may or may not be able to come. He is still an avid NaNo supporter even though he won't be writing a novel himself. (I'm so lucky.)
I don't know if they are options, but there are some larger coffee shops in town ( e.g., Cafe Vino or the place just south of there that I can't remember the name of). Maybe we could get into a book store...? These ideas are just quick thoughts in the hope that they will lead someone to a great idea for where to meet.
If we are in fact at the ML's house, I'd be happy to bring finger food or whatever to help with the party.

I would like to plan on coming, but I won't know for sure if I can until closer to the date. We have wee friends that we may be taking Trick or Treating for their parents, and they tend to wear me out.
I have no ideas for venue, but if it's at someone's house I would also be glad to contribute munchies.

Argh, this sucks. XD Deciding between my favourite holiday and my favourite manic, psychotic writing binge. I'm going to say that Jen and I will most likely be able to attend. I don't think my car can make the trip to Johnstown right now, and the other party to which I was invited is at the house of someone whom I don't particularly like.
Will the kickoff party be a costume party, seeing as it's Halloween and all?

We do recognize that it's Halloween, as well as NaNo kick-off. (How awesome that two such fabulous things can be combined!). Therefore, yes, costumes are encouraged, though not required.
We're probably looking at something that runs from 10pm-1am, though no one has to be there for the entire time. Since we can't write until midnight, the first two hours will be time spent getting to know one another, catching up with WriMos we haven't seen for a year, and generally having a good time. At midnight, though, the writing begins.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. 22 days, and counting!

The Joker rocks.
I saw your videos this afternoon (and for those who haven't checked out NaNoVideo, give it a look-see) and they are really fun. I especially like your attempt to seduce people into writing this year. I may have to show it to my friend (who did NaNo with me two years ago and has chickened out since).
See you soon.

If I can at all make it I will come. I really want to and have every intention of doing so, it just depends on how early I have to be up on Saturday. My schedule is a little up in the air right now. I don't really have any good ideas of venue and I'd volunteer my house but it's not nearly as user friendly and large crowd friendly as the Scimoria. ^^

Skyla, 'twill be a night of costumed villainy and mayhem. I'm going to be Harvey Two-Face. A bit retconned, if I can't find a good Two-Face costume, but still - makeup, hair dye, two different outfits melded in to one - oh, yes, I'll scare the hell out of young children if they catch my bad side.
And I am so in. Even if we have to have it in a park or something...yannow, I wonder if we could rent one of the side ballrooms at the Lory for the evening...

May as well throw in my two cents and add that I have traitorously moved south to the Springs this year and probably won't be in FoCo at all this November.
But I'll be rooting for y'all from afar nonetheless ;) Haven't found anyplace near as awesome as La Dolce Vita down here yet, either, unfortunately...
As for venues... I have no idea what they charge, but Colorado State U probably has the space someplace, at least? And are pretty central to boot, if I recall... Good luck finding a spot for the grand kickoff.

You have no idea how freaking excited I am now.
And I thought it was exciting finding purple pants that fit me!

There are usually folks willing to drive those who can't, so you should plan on coming to write-ins, anyway. :) And if your folks are worried about you meeting up with a bunch o crazy writers, they're welcome to tag along (as long as they have something to keep themselves occupied), and email me and traevoli if they have questions. :)

Gosh, I'd adore to come. I'm another young Wrimo, though, too young to drive. I think that *getting* there wouldn't be too difficult - but getting my sis to take me home at 1:00 in the morning might be harder.
Also, my parents will probably be a little leary about this, which I don't mind as such - it just might complicate things.

We can make sure that you get home at the end of the kick-off. If your parents are leary (understandable - meeting folks in rl after talking to them online, and all that), they're welcome to email me and traevoli, and/or come to any of the events to meet us.

Bryndel -
I'm in the Springs, too, along with another former FoCo. I'm going to try to find a way to go up to a write-in at some point during the month, if you'd like to join me - probably not the kickoff, but at some point during the month, assuming my schedule permits. And, let me know if you find anything to replace Dolce Vita - I'm almost going through withdraw symptoms here...
As to venue: you might check with the IHOP on College and Elizabeth - not exactly high class, but my friends and I used to go do homework there at 10 at night and stay until all hours of the morning, and the night staff enjoyed it because, well, it can get kind of boring at IHOP in the middle of the night. And they never minded that all we ever bought was a drink or two - and some of us not even that. Their wireless wasn't always functional last year, but they might have fixed it when they remodeled. I think the night manager is still Chris - she's awesome. It's worth checking out, anyway.

I will probably be attending. I've no idea what I'm doing that weekend yet, whether I'll be here or down in Denver, but if I'm here, I'm there! I luffed the Kick Off Party last year and the crazy few of us that went to the Alley Cat afterward to keep writing...ah, the memories. ^_^
