Hey Fargo NaNo-Authors and NDSU NaNoers! How many of you are out there?
I remember we had some good ideas last year for write-ins at NDSU and other get-togeathers so hopefully we can get some of that momentum going this year.
How many Fargo NaNoers are out there?

I'm ready to go, this will be my third year.
Do we have a local ML, I can't remember...

HI. I'm new and have never done this before, but it sure sounds like fun. ;) Glad that other F/M people are involved.

Hey Kalyke, glad to have you as part of the F/M NaNoers! It is a lot of fun. :P
ML? You mean a meeting location...? I think last year we met at Barnes & Noble a few times, then once at NDSU? Can't quite remember.

Ah, well, I don't know of any and I don't think we had any last year as far as I remember.

w00t! NaNo is starting again!
This is my second attempt at 50K, but my first try in fargo (I just moved here from Bismarck to go to school).
So what's the NaNo situation in this city?

The NaNo situation is that WE'RE FREAKIN' AWESOME!
*Cough*
Last year it went pretty well, though that may just be because I knew a lot of people at NDSU who were NaNoing so we all sort of stuck together. And I think that's the key, really. Lots of people banding together at write-ins and meetings to bug the hell out of each other when we're not reaching our word limits and to guilt people back into writing when they feel like giving in. XDXDXD
We should have a kick-off party! That should get us going once November hits.

As far as I know Fargo has never had an ML. We just sort of got together at the Barnes & Noble on our own & traded horror stories and wrote a bit every Thursday (we started on the 1st and just met every week, same time.) Or at least, some of us did.
So, about that kick off party Kim -any ideas? Time, place, food? Anyone wanna volunteer their living room / kitchen table for write-ins so we can be loud obnoxious and have food?

Well that sounds cool. I applied to be a ML for Fargo a few weeks ago but no one wrote me back. :P So perhaps we can just wing it again this year.
We could try some coffee shops spots, maybe see if B&N wants to get on our bandwagon, and do some in home ones. I might be able to volunteer my home, I'm out in West Fargo. It would be fun during our write ins to have mini-challenges where we write for a certain amount of time, and stop - and we all say how many words we wrote. And people can volunteer to pipe up and tell e/o their favorite sentence out of what they just wrote, that sort of thing. Could be fun.
I'm open to whatever.

Hey now, just because I brought up the kickoff party doesn't mean I have ideas...lol
I thought B&N worked pretty well. Maybe a coffee shop with an open lounge? I'm not volunteering my apartment, though...the mess is insane plus we'd then have a German Shepherd puppy trying to eat everyone's laptops and a bird screaming bloody murder at all the "intruders."
*Thinks*
We could always do a potluck sort of thing, too. People who want to can bring cookies and food to wherever we are meeting, or we can just all bring our own food, or we can order pizzas.
First thing's first, where shall we meet? And when?

Oh, and SavvyOne brought up a fun idea! We could sure do games! Like word sprints, try to write as many words as you can in 15 minuets or whoever gets to like...500 words first is the winner.
SavvyOne's idea was great, too! :P
I love writing games.

I'm game for whatever! We should try to decide where to meet for the kickoff party at least and then maybe go from there?

Hello, fellow Fargoans.
It's my first year here. I hope to have a blast!
EDIT: Because I haven't even started my novel yet, and already I'm confusing my words...

Hello, NaNoers!
This is my second year trying NaNo. Didn't finish last year, but got halfway there.
I'd love to go to some write-ins. I don't have room in my apartment to host, but I'd be happy to bring some treats if someone else is hosting. Happy writing everyone!

Thought I'd drop in and say "hi."
I was here last year, I didn't get very far (schoolwork and final projects). I plan to finish it out this year since my class workload seems to be way less than last year at this time.
I'm at NDSU for another year or so (technically I'm a junior, but this is my fourth year), but I live outside of Fargo.
:)
Anyways, what is everyone planning to write?

This year I'm going to take another stab at a Fantasy NaNo with a bit of romance and a bit of intrigue. I've spent a couple of days getting the bones of the story figured out, but now I have moved on to character sketches. I figured that I should at the very least come up with names before NaNo starts, because names always make me stop and think. I obsess over the right names for my characters sometimes, and that could be a major stumbling block for me down the line.

*Stares at Fargo* I don't live there but alas...
Anyway to answer the looming question of what I am going to write. I plan on a fantasy. This is the same fantasy that has tried to kill me the past two years. (Lucky for me I wasn't on Nano) This is my first year here so I hope and pray that I will not fail. Or if I do I get a cookie for trying. *big grin*
Because I have been haunted by this story for three years I already have the characters in my head. All developed and all mad at me for not writing them down.

Haha! I just noticed the other boards. See that is what I get for being new! Sorry guys!

*waves* Hello, all! This is my second attempt at NaNo, didn't make it last year but am optimistic about this time around :) It would probably help if I attended some of these get-togethers; maybe it'll help me stay motivated!

I'm still undecided... Most likely it will be either a young adult fantasy or historical fiction.
I had a couple of suggestions for places for write-ins, if the group isn't too huge. Nichole's Pastry downtown is awesome, and if we have people who are of age, the Winery (across from Cash Wise) would welcome us also--they do have a back room we could reserve, too. My hubby used to work there, so we know the owner and staff well. Just a couple thoughts.
2 days, 40 minutes and counting!

I'm pretty sure a couple of college students are underage (I'm the reason my creative writing class can't meet at the Turf) but coffee shops are still a go for all ages.

Hey, you Crazy Fargo Cats! How's everybody doing? Feeling the crunch yet? Have the plot bunnies come out to play?
I'm almost 10,000 words in, which leaves me a little padding - but I'm going to need it. We all know that November is the start of Family Gathering Season, and I'm out this weekend to take a trip to Missouri (!) with the in-laws. Should be fun, but noveling time will be at a premium, I'm afraid. What's everyone else up to?
Also, even if we don't have an official Municipal Liaison, we should still work on setting up a write-in or two - what do you guys think? I'd help set something up for this weekend if I was going to be around, but what about the 14th or 15th? The eve of "Writing Dangerously" or however they call it? We could celebrate it locally even if we can't be in the Bay Area.
Thoughts?

I'm off to a slow start this year. well off the 1,667/day pace. maybe writing side-by-side with fellow Nano's will get ink flowing to the page. I can do a 14th or 15th write-in. Love the idea of tying in to Bay Area's Night of Writing Dangerously.

I'm not from the Fargo area, but I drive up there fairly frequently. If there are plans for a get-together, I'd certainly try to make it. My progress has been slow, but I tend to be a slow writer, plus there's nothing like pressure to get me racking up the word count.
How is everyone doing?

I'm still up for doing something this weekend - Saturday, perhaps? Unless someone wants to volunteer their home, how about something like Barnes & Noble? Would that be okay, you think?

B&N worked great last year, plus they're open until 11pm. What time works for people to get together Sat? I was thinking around 2pm or something, or if we wanted to make it an evening thing we could start at 7pm after people eat supper and all. Opinions?
