This isn't strictly NaNo business, but I wanted to share this with you all in case you're a fantasy reader and interested in seeing a legend in the flesh, right here in our town! Le Guin published A Wizard of Earthsea in 1968 and this will be the very first time she's done a public reading of it. Also, since this is a library-sponsored event, it's free! I'll definitely be there and hopefully some of you are interested in attending as well.

I thought she was amazing. Very insightful, inspiring, and entertaining. Yay Timberland Library for bringing great authors here!
I thought one of her best comments was in response to a question about what she would tell her younger self: "Hang in there!"

Absolutely. Great advice.
I was also struck by her brief rant about non-feminine female characters in modern fantasy and scifi. Gave me some things to think about for my NaNo novel this time around.

I missed both days & was totally bummed because she's such a talented person--- not only did I want to see her, my kids knew who she was and wanted to see her too, lol!

Agh, I know, I wanted to see her so bad too, but I only heard about it the day before and I had to work late the next evening. Criminy! If I had been able to go, I would have brought my little pocket editions of the Catwings books for her to sign... first things of hers I ever read and I've had them since elementary school. <3
