Ok I'm a Newbie (or Noob) and I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question but I must state it anyhow.
Ok, the word count, How does it work? do I have to copy paste things in the counter to get a update, or is it linked to a file on my PC or what?
maybe this was covered by the FAQ but I didn't get it or some such.

There are (at least there were last year) two ways to do your word count, before verification. You can just type in the number manually (by looking at what your word processor told you the count was, or counting your handwritten words, or whatever). Or you can enter your text into the little text box (on the word count update page, somewhere from your profile) and it will count for you. It's a good idea to do that second one at least once during the month, as you may find it gives you a slightly different count from your own word processor, and it's nice to be prepared. :)
When it's time to verify a win, you'll upload the file (I forget how) and it will count for you, then promptly delete your file ... it won't remember any of it. No link back to your computer or anything like that.
It looks like this year we can type in our updated word count from any place on the website, up in the top right corner by where you log in. Handy!
Oh, and you just tell it the grand total ... it doesn't do a tally or anything ... it won't add what you tell it now to what you told it yesterday.

ok thanks, I had figured it out (sort of) but nice to hear someone explain it, maybe its so simple but doing things for the first time is frightening and confusing.
thanks again for reply, and we'll see if I figure it out.
