I'll start.
My name is Rachel and I live in Albemarle Co, just north of Cville
I have not done NaNoWriMo before, but am finishing up the second draft of my first novel. I am a board member of WriterHouse.

I don't know what I'll be writing about in November, but something will miraculously come to me before then.

I am a big dork. :) I'm a 23 year old software engineer, I've done NaNo before, and if all goes well this year, once I'm settled into my new digs (I only moved to Cville in August) I'll definitely do the Municipal Liason thing next year, unless someone else really wants it. I'm excited to hang out at the Writer House and meet you other NaNoers!

I'm 38, mom of two. This is my second year doing Nano, and I hope to win it by utilizing all of the available writing days instead of cramming 40k words into the last three days like last year! I have several writing projects going at any given time, but so far I've got nothing for this year's Nano. I'm a wing-it kind of gal, so it's cool, something will pop into my head Nov. 1st.

Hope to meet some of you C-villians, because I'm new here and have no friends yet! We just moved here in August.

Hey Guys!

I'm Jenn (Neverlandite)

I live in Albemarle County (not far from Fashion Square Mall). I've never done NaNo before- I always mean to, but I'm a huge procrastinator so I keep putting it off. But I'm excited about it for this year! Not sure what I'm going to write about, but I'll figure something out before November 1st.

Hi All!

I'm Cheri - aka 'nrwgnwd'

I live in the City - Greenbrier area, and work in a Law office, which leaves me very little time for writing, unfortunately.

This is my 4th Nano, my first 'win' was last year. I'll either be working on a murder-mystery or a pseudo fantasy set in the near future. I'm waiting to see which one grabs me on Nov 1! I've never been to a write-in or meet-up, but hope to make it to some of them this year. Looking forward to putting names with faces!

I'm 33 and have a 4 yr old daughter. We will be living in c-ville for my husband to work at the hospital for a while. We may move to cville permanently next summer. SO... I will be trying to entertain my busy preschooler in a strange city while my husband works his hiney off impressing the anesthesiology department at the hospital. I guess I'll be toting the laptop to playgrounds and such.

Hi, I'm Maggie (quixotic--dreamer).

I'm from the Hampton Roads area, but I'm in C-ville for my first year at UVA.

It's my first time doing NaNo, and I'm excited. My story's about a ghost hunter who comes up against a spook she might not be able to deal with. :-) I'm having fun with these characters... Um, what else... I'm in the engineering school here, and very busy with marching band, swing dancing, doing pit for Footloose... so I'll have fun squeezing writing time out. (As I write this, I should be studying for calculus... :-P )

Carolyn Ettinger / writerinprogress

This is my second NaNoWriMo, but I"m afraid I did not complete my 50,000 words last year. Right now I'm finishing up the weeklong Muse 2008 Online Writers Conference http://www.themuseonlinewritersconference.com/ which is excellent if anyone has not done this before! I feel it's more beneficial and informative than most in-person conferences I've been to!

I have been both job and freelance writing for over 10 years, and I'm in the process of starting up a blog at essentialblogger.wordpress.com. Right now only my bio is posted but I'll work on filling it out this week. I am also launching websites for my freelance career (html to come) and for my catsitting career at pawsforabreak.com.

I have volunteered to help host/moderate some of the write-ins in conjunction with the Writer House in Charlottesville, so I hope to meet you all in person soon. I would like to propose a kick off party, perhaps the last week of October, a fun night out somewhere, where we can all meet and talk about the strenuous but rewarding month to come. Any ideas??

I'm available on private e-mail at writerinprogress@comcast.net and on twitter at carolynincville --feel free to add me!
Thanks!
Carolyn

Hello! My name is Chelsea, and I just moved to Charlottesville this year to start graduate school. I have done NaNoWriMo twice before, back when I lived in Chicago, but never managed to get to any regional events - third time's the charm, yes? Looking forward to the kick-off party and write-ins, and to meeting you all!

I'm probably one of the youngest from the area (I'm 17, aaagh.) I have some ideas for a novel, and I'm excited to just get some words on a page. I've been struggling to do that for a while.

My NaNoWriMo name is Julia Crown.

I didn't grow up in C-ville but I've been here (near Downtown -- actually, a mere hop, skip and jump from WriterHouse) for 11 years.

This is my first time doing NaNoWriMo. I'm a 35-year-old mother of two so it may be tough to finish, but after years of partially written manuscripts, I just want to be able to write "The End" for once.

Nice to be here!

I'm all for a lets-have-fun-and-hang-out meet-up before November and NaNo get going full-fledged. I fear that I'll be to busy with the craze of NaNo (plus the rest of my usual life trying to accomodate it) come November.

But alas, as usual, I have no ideas.

I am not from C'ville but I have been living here for over a year and have no plans on leaving any time soon. So, I'll be writing from Charlottesville this year!

I knew exactly what I was going to write for NaNoWriMo this year since August... until a week and a half ago, when I realized I didn't want to write that after all. So now I have no idea! :D I'm going to try to make the kickoff party and possibly a few of the writeins. It's a little hard since I was thinking of doing my writing on a computer this year and I lack a laptop, so I'll have to either trash that idea or do some lovely conversion.

digipatty, thank you for joining, now I'm not the youngest! (I'm 23) *victory dance*

I work at the Northside branch of the JMRL library at the circulation desk. Normally, I spend most of my time reading (this job is like being a kid in a candy store) but I've vowed to dedicate the time I normally spend reading to writing for NaNoWriMo this November. This means two fifteen minute breaks and a full hour at lunchtime everyday, plus the time at home in the evening. I've never done NaNoWriMo before and while I've been making up stories since I was four or five, I've been in a several-year-long dry spell in my writing. I'm a little nervous about getting this thing going, but I've been world-building on my morning and evening commutes for the last month. :D Wish me luck!

My novel idea (double meaning, hah!) will expand upon one of the themes of Dune by Frank Herbert, but set in a an alternate world and centered around an outcast noble from a feudal-Japan like society.

Hi,

I'm Nara, nara_malone is my nano name. I live about 30 mins outside of Charlottesville in Louisa.

I started Nano last year but didn't finish. I did however finish the novel and it won a writing competition. I'm back this year working on another. I hope to be at the meetup this weekend.

I am currently in school to study Molecular Bio. I am married and have two cats, Random and Godzilla. This is my second official year participating in NaNoWriMo. This year I have no idea what I am going to do, and I believe that will make all the difference.

I get off of work at 2:30 on Saturday, but I am going to drop by the WriterHouse anyway.

Good Luck!

KiraCatgirl--If you have or can obtain a USB drive, I have a computer you can use at WriterHouse. You would just need to copy your manuscript to the USB drive to carry back and forth. Let me know if you want to do that so I can bring the computer in (not a laptop). Or see me about it on Saturday.

I'm Katie (krb2g), originally from Westminster, Maryland, but living and writing from Charlottesville near UVA. This morning/afternoon, I decided to trash both the plot ideas I'd been playing with all fall and start with something entirely new. 915 words in, only 49,085 to go! The trick is going to be making time to write both this novel and ~60 pages worth of term papers this month. This year marks my third attempt; the first year I got several hundred words in, and last year several thousand, so we'll see...

Hi, all!

I'm Kathy Erskine, writing from C'ville. I've never officially done NaNoWriMo before but used it as a goal for other novels. This year, however, I had a novel idea on Nov. 1st so I figure it's a sign. I've also never written an adult novel before (I'm a children's author) so this is a fun departure for me.

Good luck, everyone!!

Well. I introduced myself with high hopes for this year, and managed to suffer a severe knee injury the Monday before kick-off. I have spent my subsequent days in a haze of pain medication and am now recovering from surgery. Which means I'm probably going to have to drop out of this year, guys. I am very, very sad about it, but I also hurt too much to even think about a semi-coherent plot. But I wish lots of good luck and writing power to everyone else!

Hey Guys-

I was unable to make it to the write-in last weekend due to previous obligations at work, but I was just wondering if we were going to have any more get-togethers or write-ins or anything because I'd like to go.

Hope everyone's noveling is going well!

What Mary didn't mention, however, was that she had quit NaNoWriMo for the month until November 17th, when she decided that she wanted to go ahead and do it anyway.

Now she's booking it. She's crazy. In a good way, though.
