All right -- I was expecting this thread to be started already, but I guess we're all waiting for someone else to create the topic ;-)

Last year we had a small-but-productive group which met up on a weekly basis in Amsterdam. I'm hoping there are people interested in getting that going again -- once a week to meet up in a pub / cafe and spend the evening writing, laughing about our characters foolish decisions, and unloading our frustrations about plot lines (or bunnies, ninjas etc) with others who actually understand what we are complaining about!

Before the old forums disappeared there were already discussion about setting these up again; if I recall correctly the most popular evening was Tuesday this year... and although we hadn't definitely arranged a meeting place(s) yet, there was a nice cafe with a name I get wrong every time (hoping Garnet or Florider will step in here, I know they will get it right!) but it had great chai, coffee and fondue ;-)

Anyone interested? Please don't make me finish the fondue by myself!

I'm totally guilty of waiting for someone else to start it. Ha!

I'm definitely in. I think the name of the cafe was Dwaze Zaken. Never actually been there myself :)

What time did these things usually start/end? I can do Tuesdays, but I do have work then, so I'd like to know in advance if I need to shift some hours to another day or rush dinner and all that good stuff :)

Last year at least, it was more or less 'come as you can' ... generally some people tried to arrive somewhere between 5:30 and 6, but others didn't get there until later, and usually folks started leaving between 8:30 and 9 or so? It helps if we go to a place that has both food and ample power sockets for laptops of course ;-). And suggestions for places that don't mind us sitting around for a few hours nibbling and drinking tea/coffee are always welcome!

Hah! Usually during Nano we spend our time at the write-ins just chatting. ;o)

I would have started this topic if I wouldn't have had to skip the first meeting of the month. I'll be in Canada... Yup, unless my new laptop will arrive soon I'll be starting with pen and paper, if at all. But the last couple of years I had about a week left anyway, so I should be able to make it this year as well.

Anyway, back on topic: tuesday sounds fine to me. And for the weeks when I can I'll try to be there.

Tuesdays and Dwaze Zaken are both good for me! :)

They seemed to be mildly amused but pretty hospitable last year.
Excellent coffee, too.

Eta: Yup, that's the one Marsha!

I might be joining you guys once or twice, but I'm not sure yet, since Tuesday isn't exactly the easiest day for me at the moment ;-)

Me, but I'm not sure what time I'd be there. Between work and dinner... sigh. I'm planning on rushing though so hopefully it shouldn't get too late :)

Depending on the amount of solid study-time I need to make up for, Tuesday would work for me - well, past five-ish, at least. I'll let y'all know if I'll be able to make it.

Strange, I was sure I'd replied to this last night... but it's definitely not listed. Weird.

Anyway -- I'll be there the first week, definitely; aiming to try to get there before 6 but we'll see what work is like that day. I'll be easy to spot, as I'll either have this years or last years Nano shirt, and a very small laptop perched on my knees!

BTW, - is anyone going to the workshop on Oct 31? Might help to introduce ourselves there so we're not standing in the middle of the cafe looking lost that first Tuesday ;-).

Good plan. I'll be there, tiny and bespectacled. (There's some photos and self portraits on my website. I've been told I'm very easy to recognise.)

ETA: And Cris-X, I hope you'll be able to make it! (...if only so that I'm not the only one in my age group around ;) )

I'll be there, probably between 17.30 and 18.00.

I can't make it to the workshop though.

I'll be at the workshop the 31st, and at Dwaze Zaken on the 4th as well.
Not quite sure what time though: I'll try for 6 o'clock.

Is it me, or does October get a little shorter each year?

Misschien kom ik ook wel een keertje langs. Het is wel in de buurt (ik woon in Almere), maar ik vind het toch een beetje eng, al die onbekende mensen.

I feel you there.

Yep, I have the nervous 'why am I putting myself through this' feeling in the pit of my stomach too. Last year was my first Nano and my Dutch is 'nog niet zo goed' so I was pretty terrified arriving at the first Amsterdam write-in... but everyone was really welcoming. I think the weekly meetups were part of what made Nano such a fantastic month last year ;-)
