LaMishia and I would like to introduce you to yet another Point of Contact (POC) for the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia!

Arrowsforpens, Arrows for short, has courageously volunteered to represent JMU Wrimos. As your POC, arrowsforpens will be organizing JMU meet-ups and write-ins. She will also make sure your events are posted to the region's Calendar. Our hope is that by having a POC on campus, you will feel more connected to your region and be able to participate in NaNo related activities even though you may be far from the region's headquarters. And now a little bit about your POC: (cue Dating Game theme music)

Although Arrowsforpens had to be gently coaxed into volunteering for the position of JMU POC, she has already started spreading the word about NaNoWriMo even before her introduction thread was posted! She has recruited one Newbie and is working on another! Arrows is an art history major and a junior at JMU with a history of swing dancing and archery (hence the name I presume.) From her bio: "Besides noveling (duh :D), I like history, arts of various kinds, cats, musicals, and the word sanguine. This year's challenge: I will be writing completely sans caffeine. Crazy, I know. Should be fun." We wish you luck at Java City Arrows!

We could not be more excited for our JMU Wrimos! So if you are a student, professor, JMU staff or a friend of a JMU Wrimo and would like to introduce yourself to your new POC, this is the place to do it! Post a note to say hello. She will be checking in over the next few days to say hello and get things headed in the right direction.

Happy Noveling!

Your Co-MLs Susan & LaMishia

P.S. One last thing...if you happen to be in the Harrisonburg area and not connected with JMU, would you please consider becoming a POC yourself? I am sure there are other Wrimos both on campus and off who would be interested in meeting at off campus locations and perhaps a few joint write-ins or meet-ups with JMU can be scheduled. Send me a NaNoMail if you are interested!

Hooray for Arrows! It'll be awesome to turn Java City into NaNo Central a few times in the month - just tell me when and I'm there. Working side-by-side with other idiots hard-working novelists is incredibly motivating. You can hear those keys tapping or papers flipping and think "they're going to beat me!" :-D

Any hope for midnight on Halloween?

I'm game for Halloween. Bonus points if anyone's still in costume! I'll check when TDU closes. If not there, we can take over a TV lounge or something.

So, when's the best day for everyone to have regular write-ins? I hardly have a schedule, so I'd be fine with doing more than one if people's schedules don't work out, but I think it'll be more fun if we're all together. :)

My schedule is a little hectic, but for the most part, all of my Sundays are free!

I'd love to take over Java City/TDU for a write-in. It'll be a nice break for my roommates who will have to put up with being name generators. :P

Love you, Diana! (yeah, I'm not sure what kind of nickname to make out of your username)

We have a vote for Sundays! Personally, I have no classes Tuesdays or Thursdays, and giant blocks of open time during the day any time. Archery will make an appearance on Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday evenings, most likely.

BTW, Java City is closed weekends.

Hallo fellow Dukes.

I'm really excited to find some Dukes who are in on this as well. XD I'm totally up for some write ins and may even drag two of my housemates along. :D My Tuesdays are often empty as well as thursdays after a certain time and every other Saturday night., and Sunday of course. :D

If the weather stays nice it might also be cool to do a writing night out on the quad? Blankets, munchies with portable lamps? I don't know it might get to cold soon.

Really looking forward to this all and getting some creative juices flowing. :D

Hey, JMU Wrimos!

I'm totally looking forward to actually having people to write with, so I'll totally be making every write-in I can possibly make time to get to.

I'm only busy on Monday and Thursday evenings, with classes ending at reasonable hours daily, so weekends, evenings, anything pretty much goes for me.

I can't wait-- 10 more days!

I like the idea of write-ins on the quad, and I have a couple of sleeping bags to make the experience a little less pnemonia prone. And I'm free pretty much all friday... and any evening but mon & wed, which I TA on so the ending time is kinda hazy. I love scheduling XD

I'm up for a JMU/Harrisonburg area write-in, but not on the quad. If NaNoWriMo was earlier in the semester, maybe, but in November it is pretty cool. Also, there is zero access to power outlets if the write-in is outside.

I take it that the JMU POC vs. the prospective Harrisonburg area POC is because the two are to be distinct? Surely there have to be other Wrimos who would like to attend write-ins but are not JMU students.

I would consider becoming the POC myself, but I have recently returned to the area. Are there any other non-JMU student Wrimos? Am I the only one??

I'm pretty wimpy about outdoors too but I'll give it a try, especially on a weekend afternoon.

Is it okay if I bring some non-JMU-ers? Maybe I can help them to get connected to rsong81 to work out something off-campus. So far, they all seem quite content to come to campus with me. That sort of makes it sound like I've got hordes of friends on this journey with us but it's really just one for sure, probably two, maybe three.

Yea there is no power out on the quad, but I figure that's the point, so we can only be out there as long as our comps last unless you wanna go old school and use "real paper".
And I don't think we should seperate the JMU writers from the Harrisonburg ones. A lot the write ins will probably be on campus but I don't think that should exclude the people who live here. We're too close to ignore each other don't ya think.

Ehh, Diana, I'm gonna have to wimp out on the great outdoors too. Cuz of the health problems + cold equation, you know how that goes...

Okay, I actually made a chart of the info everyone gave about their schedules because I think visually like that. I think our best days look like Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Tuesday could be a dinner/java combo in TDU, and Sunday we could either go to, say, the Loft in Warren or someone's house (gracious offers from Cheetagatsa and gofish). How does that sound?

In the shorter term, would anyone lacking in plot/characters/basic premise like to meet up this week for a mutual brainstorming session? And how many heads for a Halloween write-in?

As much as I would love to attend a Halloween write-in, since Saturday is homecoming, there's a decent chance I'll have early morning rehearsal- which means that I probably shouldn't be up as late as I would need to be, because marching and playing in the cold when half-asleep is a terrible idea. But this Sunday, I'm down for a write-in!

Tuesday evenings at TDU/Java City and Sunday afternoons somewhere else - got it! I'd put it on my calendar if I had a time. :-D

I wouldn't mind a little plot brainstorming yet this week. I'm available Wednesday after 3 or Friday afternoon/evening. Halloween sounds great to me but I'd forgotten about Homecoming and wonder how that helps or impairs Friday night plans.

I'd hazard that homecoming means that we should meet somewhere off campus and be ready for vicious/psychotic traffic. (Also, I have a friend who happens to be working at that Java City on Friday. She plans on closing early, and gave me a very telling look when I mentioned the possibility of bringing a group).

I know it's very short notice, but gendou57 and I will be meeting at TDU between 2-3 til 5 today to brainstorm. I'm busy Wednesday evening with election volunteering and a study group, but if other people aren't, by all means meet. On the other hand, I think there's a kind of poetry and quintessential NaNo-ness to brainstorming Friday afternoon/evening, don't you?

I know at least 3 JMU/townie WriMos are with the Swing Club, and we're obliged to be at Sunset on the Quad until roughly 6:15. We could set a time, for, say 7 or 8? gofish, I know you have to do the Homecoming thing, so, cheetagatsa, is your house free on Friday?

Would liked to have come over but I've abandoned campus already for the day. Today's big event with a certain presidential candidate scared me off. I had had visions of meandering over there after my office hours but when I read the notice about road closures and "alternate viewing locations" that include the soccer fields (yikes!) I opted for watching it on tv from my warm, cozy apartment!

Same time and place next Tuesday?

Tuesdays are a maybe. Just with Wedensday being my Classes from Hell, but maybe I'll make it once or twice. I'm totally up for Sunday Write ins though. :D Maybe I can convince my Housemates to maybe use my house once or twice? I'm sure they won't mind, but must ask. :)

Tell me your plans for Halloween and maybe I can drop by? Just to say hi and greet. XD Meet the other word-nerds that are going on this epic quest as well.

I'm excited guys!

Just here to tell the world that my place would be great for the Halloween kick off. My housemates should all be gone or not care. Just try to let me know who's coming. Calling me would be your best bet (914-400-5846). I'll try to make the place as cozy and inspirational as possible but I think if we want food we're going to need to collaborate on that. So keep me posted on whatever you can.

I don't know if anyone else is noticing that the site is now slower than the average zombie, but I'm finding it a bit of a hindrance. So, let's move the contact stuff off it for a few days here. Call or text me at 703.615.5248 or IM to archergirl42 and leave some contact info, and Cheetagatsa and I will organize the Halloween night write-in and tell you what's going on. (note: I was an hour off on Swing Club's Sunset on the Quad performance. It's til 7:10, I believe.) So how about starting sometime after 8 or 9? I'm sure we can find something to talk about. And I'm declaring it to be a junk food potluck. Snacks that won't make for greasy fingers are best; our poor laptops are about to get enough abuse as it is.

If you're at JMU or Harrisonburg and want to hang out with us but haven't posted yet, stop being shy. If the forums are too much for you, just contact me in some way. I know there's at least two of you out there.

Tuesdays at/after 3 at TDU good for people? And Sundays... sometime. In the afternoon.

Is that everything? (It's been a long day. My brain already melted.)

i'm not a student, but i live within walking distance of the JMU campus and so meetings there would be great for me, personally.

i always have sundays off, so that would be primo timing for me, but my schedule is decently flexible so i'm sure i can attend most meetings if they happen to fall on weekdays. anyone opposed to meetings around ten pm?

I'm so sorry to have missed the post-Halloween write-in! I couldn't get logged in on Friday to get Cheetagatsa's phone number...or see the NaNoMail info.

Are we on for Tuesday afternoon at TDU/Java City? Anything after 1 works for me.

Unfortunately, my Tuesdays from 2:00 onward are booked solid (2-3:15, 3:30-4:45, 4:45-6:30, 6:30-8)...but Sundays are my one day a week where I am almost certain to be able to attend a write-in! I'll make sure to keep checking here to see when I can meet all of my fellow JMU wrimos. :]

Yay, I can finally log in! I've been trying all weekend.

So, not a lot of turnout for the Halloween write in, but it was homecoming, and as it turns out Cheeta's house is really hard to find. Ah well.

I say we're still on for 3:00 on Tuesdays, and we'll see how long it goes. I don't have much of anywhere to be, so I could be there for a ridiculously long time. I'll bring a NaNo sign. gofish, that sounds like a terrible kind of Tuesday, and you have my sympathy.

When's good on Sundays for y'all? I'm a fan of earlier-than-evening. and now back to the novel, since I'm 1500 to go.

Hi Kristin, thanks for stopping by.

Okay, so I only saw Cheeta at TDU today. Did nobody else come by, or were we too hard to find? (at first I was in the Java City, but then we took two of the couches and put up a sign). I'll probably have a larger sign next week regardless, but what went down?

I can't believe I missed it! The whole election business threw my schedule off and I'd left campus already. I've got it on my calendar now, won't happen again.

I was actually noveling at the same time, just not in the same coffee shop!

I have a class at 3:30 on Tuesdays... also, I didn't know it was happening.

I also dont know why I'm responding. I tend to lurk around... I guess I'm just in a chatty mood.

Did we settle on a Sunday afternoon time and place? I am quite open between 1:30 and 6:30. As you can see from my sad little progress bar, I need some motivation! A change of location would be a really good idea for me.
