Hey Jan,
I'm sure there are plenty of non-dutch speakers out there. I am english speaking and live in antwerpen and trying to talk at least two other non-flemish speakers into joining this region (got a frenchie lined up but he works and may chicken out). Suprised you haven't had a repsonse yet. Wat are you writing about?
(I'm trying it in flemish this year as I just started a course in ducth and though this will be a good way to combine my efforts). I'll do crime I think.
cheers
B

I've got a sci-fi story brewing for the moment, une that starts pretty much now and goes all the way to the passing of humanity to something else... So post-apocalypric transhumanism and post-humanism, to use impressive words... :P

Hi,

I'm not Belgian, but I live in Brussels and I'm doing NaNoWriMo. Do I count?

You certainly do! It's a geographic group, not a nationality group... :P

And that makes two of us in Brussels...

We are basically the 'Dutch speaking regions' forum, but 99% of us speak English too, so don't feel left out if you live in the region but only speak English. :-)
We always have a few English threads, and a lot of us write their novel in English too, so feel free to start English threads, or reply in English in any of the Dutch threads!

:-)

I know so many foreign people in Limburg that any English speaking people are more than welcome... But that kind of happens by itself when your boyfriend does his PhD... Lots of others doing it as well, and few of them Belgians!

I'm also a non-Belgian living in Brussels! Hello, everyone! =)

Hey, does anyone know if we have a Municipal Liason? It'd be great to attend write-ins and stuff! =)

I don't think that we have a municipal liaison in Brussels... I guess one of us should volunteer...I'd be glad to help, but I'm already going to be tight on time with the nano itself...

We could always organize something ourselves!

Seeing as there's some people from antwerp, limburg, brussels & leuven, I would actually suggest leuven to meet. It's not too far from both antwerp and hasselt, and is close enough to brussels. It's also pretty central for any other people that might want to join...

I wouldn't know where to meet though :-)

Any ideas anyone?

There's this really nice smoothie and milkshake place, near the Foch plein (ten - fifteen minutes walk from the train station) in Leuven. It's rather small, but it's nice and cosy and it honestly has the best smoothies and milkshakes I've ever tasted. Plus the glasses are HUGE! This place is actually also playing a big role in my novel. Mwahaha. Can you tell I'm a fan? ;)

But maybe this is a place where we can go? Unless the group is getting really big. Than we can always go to the PurPur in the Parijsstraat, which is a rather nice place as well and it's bigger.

Just a couple of ideas.

I love smoothies! So that one place near the station sounds great :-)

Hmmm smoothies :-) I can see where we're going with this, lots of drinking, not so much writing! Wait, wasn't this about some event about novel writing... What was that called again... oh yeah! NaNoWriMo!!!

Just kidding, sounds like a great spot to me as long as there's some room to place a few laptops together or to have some writing space. And if we're too many, we can still take your other suggestion, thanks!

So, about dates: Since I'm a working girl, preferably a Saturday (although if anyone would like to meet on a Sunday that's possible as well.) And then, the only Saturday I can't come is Nov. 1st (All Saints, choir, church...). So, I made up a poll on the free doodle.com service

http://www.doodle.com/participation.html?pollId=3bwzdy6qpg5twgud

I'll post this link on the Belgium thread as well. If you want to come, please visit the poll and check all dates you're available. I'll give it a week or so, and then we'll see which date is most popular, and decide.

Looks like Saturday the 22nd of November would be a good date. Lets just pick that date and we'll meet at 2 in the afternoon (14u) at the big statue in front of the train station. We can discuss later if we'll meet up for on the 30th again.

How does that sound?

Sounds good for me!

But ehm.. does anybody happen to have an extra laptop they don't mind me using for the afternoon? Preferably with a usb port, and a working screen :-)

I'd weasel my bf's old one for you, if it's battery wasn't completely broke... It'll only work in constant contact with an outlet...

Well, and really, it's widescreen, so entirely too big to carry around Leuven :-)

22nd at 14.00 sounds fine for me! Should we all make ourselves known through something?

Hi everyone,

Just to summarize about the write-in, I've put all the info in a new topic:
