Hello all,

This year, we're kicking off the official program of NaNoBoston events with our Meet and Greet. This is your opportunity to meet other wrimos before the event and chat, discuss, etc., in an unpressured environment before the madness ... er, the writing, begins.

This year, we return to the Subway restaurant near Fenway Park in Boston. It's officially official now. We were waiting to completely confirm that there was no possibility of a game at Fenway before we committed to it. (NB: National League hosts the World Series game that night, and the Sox are American League. I double-checked this to be extra sure.)

The Meet and Greet is where the magic begins. Here's your chance to meet up with other Boston Wrimos and get to know one another without worrying about making word count. There will be light refreshments and a door prize or two. The group photo will be taken at 4:30 pm sharp!

Please RSVP (acceptances only, please) to Travis at letterslight@gmail.com before October 23. Include your username in the e-mail, please, and if you're responding for others, add their names and usernames as well. Goody bags will be handed out at the end of the event only to those people who RSVP in time. Do not RSVP in the forum comments, please; e-mail only. (Do feel free to comment on other stuff in the comments, however. :->)

Details follow:

Who: You, our esteemed Wrimos.

What: The Meet and Greet

When: Saturday, October 25th, 2 - 4 pm. (See Boston's calendar of events)

Where: Subway Restaurant, Subway Restaurant, 1315 Boylston St., Boston MA 02215 (Google maps link)

Why: Because. (That's right. Just because. You folks are that cool and definitely worth it.)

MBTA: The Subway is located near the Kenmore stop on the Green Line (B,C,D lines). It is also very near the Route 55 bus (Boylston St. at Jersey St.) and a couple of blocks from the 8, 19, 60, and 65 buses (Boylston St. at Park Drive).

Driving: See the Google Maps link above for driving directions. On-street parking is metered, but can be scarce. Local parking lots (Landmark Center, Trilogy building) are pricey but convenient.

So there is it. I hope to see you all there!

This is a bump; it's just a longer and more elaborate bump to hold this thread's place until our sticky request takes hold.

I wanted to thank everybody who has RSVP'ed to the Meet and Greet, and also let you know that we've had 36 RSVPs so far. This means we are 14 people from crowding out the Subway near Fenway Park -- we are limited to 50 participants in our group due to City of Boston occupancy limits.

Again, thanks to my phenomenal wrimos who have RSVPed, and please get back to be before October 23rd (letterslight@gmail.com) if you would like to attend. Include both your first name and username in the RSVP e-mail, please. Goody bags will be handed out at the end of the event only to those people who RSVP in time, and this year's goody bags are ... well, pretty much the same as last years. Do not RSVP in the forum comments, please; e-mail only. (Do feel free to comment on other stuff in the comments, however. :->)

Cheers,
Travis

If we have to leave at 3:30 or so, do we still get a goody bag? xD

I can only stop in for a few minutes myself - my parents are coming up this weekend (it was NOT my idea) and I only see them about three times a year, so I kind of need to split my time. If there is a shortage of spots, let me know and I'll give up my spot and just skip it.

Obviously, we'd prefer to have you stay until the end (or through the group photo), but yes, you will still get a goody bag (since you asked so nicely). :-)

Aly, you will be welcome for however long you can stand Subway's choice of radio station. Again, I'm hoping for a really full group photo around 4:30 {hint hint}, but you're welcome for as long as you can be there.

Just another bump and a little updated information:

42 people have RSVPed for the Meet-and-Greet on Saturday. Thank you to all you wonderful folks for checking in! We have room for eight more people and that's it -- the 50-person limit is set by the City of Boston. As you can see, we're getting close to the occupancy limit for the Subway, so please let us know if you're not going to be able to make it. If you are planning to attend, RSVP (acceptances only) with your first name and NaNo username to letterslight@gmail.com by tomorrow night. This gives your MLs time to set up the catering, put together the goody bags, inventory the door prizes, etc., by Saturday afternoon.

This looks like it's going to be a great kick-off and a great year for NaNoWriMo in Boston! Let's get things going in style!

Cheers,
Travis (tkphotog)

I won't be able to make it to the Meet and Greet or the first write in, but I'm hoping to be at the others! Hope you all have fun and I look forward to meeting you all when I can get to the events :)

I was sure I'd be at the Meet and Greet but held off my RSVP because the Universe tends to screw me. Sure enough, Tuesday morning this week, my husband was informed he was working 10 hours on Saturday, and every possible babysitter we have is "unavailable". So, unfortunately I won't be able to join the festivities. I will bet dollars to donuts, however, that if you guys get an official count of 50 participants, the Saturday work will immediately be canceled.

Anyway, I just waned to say I will be thinking of you all and wish a fun and photogenic day for everybody! Hopefully I will be able to go to the Write-in's on the first and second Saturdays, but to avoid tempting the Universe, I will not actually "plan" to be there just yet.

I've already RSVPed to be at the Meet and Greet, but I need to leave around 4, as I've already promised to drive housemates to IKEA (I live a glamorous life). I don't want to miss the group photo, but time is limited, what with store hours and all. :(

I just wanted to take a second to thank everybody who came to the write-in and helped make it such a great time. Anna and I have this bad habit of bragging to other MLs about how great our wrimos are, and today's event proves that we're absolutely right. How many wrimo events have goody bags, door prizes and the zombie shuffle?

Photos from the write-in will be posted to our flickr.com set later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for helping to make this a great event.

Cheers,
Travis (tkphotog)

I think I ended up at the wrong Subway =( I should know by now to never, ever assume I have any idea where I'm going. (There were maybe 8 people total in the one I ended up at.) Oops. I'll see you all at write ins I guess!

As always, I second just about everything that Travis has already said, and this is no exception. I had a blast and I'm glad some of you did too, since that was the intent, after all.

chewthescrew, I'm sorry you missed us. You were definitely at the wrong Subway since we had nearly fifty people in attendance and easily filled the place up. But, thankfully, there are other events scheduled throughout November, so we'll look forward to seeing you then.

Dont you think that there's a small chance that those 8 people at the other subway were all the people who didn't show up who had RSVPed, though? I mean, it's possible!

Thanks for letting me hang around like a lost puppy guys :)

Randy, I was wondering that myself. Though there have always been people who just don't bother to show up and it's not a case of getting lost. Ah well. And you know you always have a home at our gatherings. You couldn't possibly be a lost puppy during Wrimo. However, the rest of the year... I can't speak for. lol, glad you were there!

Oh man! So right after we left, outside of Fenway there is a huge billboard for Left4Dead.. if you have time at the first write-in? I'd totally be amenable getting a group to a walk down the street to do a zombie-shot in front of the sign!

D'awwwww.

Contest deadline is November 1st, I already submitted my entry (thanks again, Travis!) but that probably would have made for an awesome shot.
This is the one I ended up putting in: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Bloodcider/blog/IMG_8835.jpg

If it were outside, and the big Left 4 Dead logo were over my head, and the hands were zombiefied, I probably would win. Right now I'm hoping for 3rd place. Hats, man. Four of em. :3

The writing prompts you guys so generously provided are being safeguarded by Elmo, who will dole them out as necessary at write-ins. Elmo has a keen eye for struggling novelists and is dedicated to your success just as much as your MLs. :-)

And how can one argue with the unyielding wisdom of the Elmo. I sit at the red furry feet of the master in reverence :::grin:: Invisible robot fish is definitely one to be coveted, although I don't know how I'm going to fit it into a 1940's period love story..

Maybe I could use it as a joking twist on Descartes' winged horse or something "I can clearly and distinctly picture a fish made of metal, that I cannot see.. but it is a fabrication of my imagination and therefore not necessarily existent."

Hmm.. yeah that could be a tricky one to sell...
