Welcome Syracuse WriMo-ers! I hope you'll all take a moment and introduce yourself.

My name is Maurice. I'm a long-time Nanowrimo participant, an occasional winner, and a second year municipal liaison.

I'm planning on scheduling write-ins throughout November but there are a couple of complications:

Last year, there were two of us working as the MLs for Syracuse. Amy did tons of work getting stuff organized but she has left the area.

This year, I am likely to have less time for NaNoWriMo than ever before.

So ... If we're going to have regular write-ins, I'm going to need some help. If you're committed to doing Nanowrimo this year and want to help out, please let me know. I'm happy to share ML duties if you want to help at that level, but you don't have to be an ML to help.

Suggestions on good places to hold write-ins are welcome. We had mixed success last year with as many as five and as few as two writers gathered together to swill coffee and sling words.

If you have a favorite public place to write, you can host a write-in. All you have to do is get there a little early to grab a table, look writerly so the rest of us can find you, and help everybody get settled in for an afternoon or evening of writing.

Some people like to organize online write-ins with everyone in a chat room comparing word counts. That's not my thing, but if you want to organize something for our region just let me know.

I'm hoping to hear from a lot of Syracuse writers this year!

Unfortunately, I am no longer in Syracuse -- I moved back home to CT after taking the NY bar exam. I will miss our little group this November!

Funk 'n' Waffles and Recess were both good places for me last year (those were the ones I was able to get to). I know that Panera has wireless internet, coffee, and some big tables. Sugar Pearl is cozy and has tasty coffee, but I don't think there are any large tables. Also, having a set day of the week was nice because I remembered to at least check to see where everyone was going to be.

Good luck everyone!

Freedom of Expresso would be my first choice.

Freedom of Expresso?

Which one? I know of two...the one in Armory Square and the one at Plum and Solar.

The one at Plum is closer to where I live, but either are good places.

We've done write-ins at the Freedom of Espresso downtown in past years and they worked out great. We also did one last year at the Freedom of Espresso in Fayetteville but that wasn't very well attended.

I haven't been to one at Solar & Plum. How's the seating there? Any idea if they have Sunday hours?

I'm not sure how many write-ins I will attend this year, being up here in the hinterlands of Oswego County far away from most of the usual locations. That said, I did really enjoy the before and after get-togethers we had last year. It was nice to meet everyone going into the campaign, and then to share the post-mortems when it was all over. I'd make it a point to attend such events if we did them again this year - but unfortunately I don't have the time to help plan or coordinate them.

Freedom of Espresso in Fayetteville is about 3 minutes from my house...if we get together on Sundays, I'm there!

Hello, Everyone.

This is my first year with this. I've never written anything longer than a dozen or so page, or at least, anything creative. I am very much looking into getting into the writing mode. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to finish this project.

Welcome to everyone, but especially to the new folks who have never tried this before! Last year was my first year. I'd never written more than 10-20 pages and I managed to pull of over 50k by the end of November and completed the story the following week. It came in at 64k. I wrote fanfic last year so I'm looking forward to writing an original story this time around.

This is my first year in the contest, I found out about it last December. I picked up the writing bug from my Dad, who was always writing after he came home from work. For the last ten years that has been me too. I have a lot of unfinished stories, a few finished short stories, and only one completed story (novel length).
I really want to do this contest because it will force me to complete a story. Especially some of the ideas I have had kicking around for awhile. This is the first time I have outlined a book, so that was already a challenge that I was able to complete.
Otherwise I hope to have fun and meet some other writers.

Since November is almost upon us (and I won't be able to make it to the kickoff party at Clark's - sorry!), can we choose a regular Sunday meeting place? I'd love to meet fellow writers ...

I googled the map to Freedom of Espresso at Plum & Solar - and that looks like an easy one. I'm closer to Fayetteville, but that seems to be a "Jo - party of one" situation.

Can we agree on Freedom of Espresso at Plum & Solar on Sundays?
What time is good for everyone???

Hopefully we can do a write in at a location within Armory Square! That would be amazing!

Hi everyone!

I've never done anything like this before, so I look forward to seeing if I can do it, while meeting other writers who are also crazy enough to sign up for this! I'm excited to meet y'all!

I am really looking forward to doing it this year. I've meant to do it for years now, but finally prodded myself into action this time.. :)

I doubt I could make it to the kickoff tomorrow as I'll have my kids that night, but I look forward to meeting people at Sunday write-ins. That would be great.

I don't know if I'll make it to any write-ins since I don't drive and Syracuse is the closest group to me, it's still a bit of a drive. But I'll have fun hearing all about it, and if anyone does an online one I might be interested.

An internet one would be interesting to do. How would you go about to do it?

Could we cheer each other on and have convos via Twitter, or Meebo, perhaps? That could even allow you to "attend" write-ins where more people are meeting face-to-face.
