Let's get acquainted. Please feel free to say anything you like.
My home is in Vista - east of Oceanside. I love meditation and other spiritual exercises. And I love heart to heart communication.
I won NaNoWriMo last year and Script Frenzy this year. Both are an absolute blast - challenging and fulfilling. It's pure joy to write with a group of other writers.
Please let us know about you and your interests.
Jim

I must have a satisfying lovelife because I am coming to NaNoWriMo to get my abuse. 30 days coming up of little sleep, junk food, caffiene overloads, and typing with the lights out. I am looking for a few crazy people to walk this long crazy walk with me. I'm not much of a spiritualist, but I do believe that this NaNo thing will haunt me if I do not conquer it.

Hi Jim and congrats on becoming ML. I'm Diann and I'm the ML for Riverside county. I'm in Temecula so I can throw a rock and hit SD county! This is my fourth year doing NaNo (I've won all three times and also one of the 2 Script Frenzies I did) and my third as ML. If there's anything I can do to help my neighbors to the south, just let me know!
I'm writing my first mystery this year - I'm really looking forward to it. So far I've written two fantasy novels and a chick lit tome. I work in Temecula but they're sending me to Vegas for a week on November 3. I hope I can get some writing done on the road or I'll be starting out behind the curve.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone and seeing those word counters move once November begins!

Hi Diann,
It's great to be back in touch with you. We corresponded a bit last year.
I'm in awe with all the great activity that's going on in your area and your forum. It's most inspiring.
Thank you for your offer to help. I'll be taking you up on that.
With gratitude,

Hey Jim and all,
I was very glad to discover this forum. I didn't know it existed last year and just about killed myself trying to attend those meetings all the way downtown. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and thrashing out twice as many words as I did last year. I rather plateaued around 25k, so here's hoping for a better November!

Hello, Jim and all,
This is Beth returning for my 4th year of NaNowriting. I live in Poway.
I hope to make it to the write-ins; I wasn't able to do so last year. I also hope I won't get sick---it's become rather a tradition with me during NaNo.
Anyway, I've been jotting down notes and doing character profiles for this year's NaNovel, another comedy-fantasy...which may end up being about something else, as I tend to change my mind come November. =^)
I wish everyone lots of good writing!

I know what you mean about changing your mind during the writing. Sometimes the novel takes on a life of its' own.

Hi, My name is Edie and I live in Encinitas. Does anybody live on the coast?
This is my first year and I'm nervous and excited. I've been writing for several years ( two short "completed" novel manuscripts) but never, ever this many words at once.
I'm making sticky notes of character sketches and scene ideas to get ready.
I appreciate the support for this crazy thing!

Hi Edie :-)
Welcome! You're going to love writing the draft of a 50,000 word novel.
Although I love Encinitas, it's a bit beyond my driving range. I'm hoping someone will organize and commit to some write-ins in the Encinitas area. I love the E Street Cafe.

Hi, I'm Suzi and I live in the Ocean Hills neighborhood of Oceanside, which is really in the Shadowridge area of Vista. And now that we've gotten that out of the way ...
This will be my third attempt at NaNoWriMo (emphasis on *attempt*). Clearly, I am a glutton for self-abuse. This time, I'm planning ahead with an outline, character studies, several bags of Sumatra coffee beans and a brand new laptop. I'm also dragging along my talented niece, kitchenwitch, who will be my companion in inspired misery.
My novel this year is a romantic comedy, but I hate the phrase "chick lit" so I'm calling it mainstream fiction. However, if it's like my last romantic comedy, it will end up in the mystery/horror genre. My characters never want to do what I plan.
I hope to attend as many of the NoSDCoNaNoWriMo gatherings as possible. If I show up, please place yourself firmly between me and the bread counter.

Hello all!
Kitchenwitch here. (San Marcos being ‘here’.) No, my nickname has nothing to do with books. Don’t fret, I am not planning to write a novel of recipes. I just had a brainfart when I was trying to think of some really cool name. I am known by a few as a kitchen witch because I can take what seems to be an empty cupboard and refrigerator and come up with a pretty darned good meal. (As I write I am making cheesy chicken enchiladas and preparing a home-made chocolate cake.) My hubby and daughter think I actually work magic in the kitchen. Let’s hope I can do the same with words!
My novel is going to be in the sci-fi genre. Alien invasion, to be more precise. Which is totally not my usual, since pretty much everything I have written so far is children’s books along with a few musings here and there. (I get inspired by the weather on occasion.) We won’t discuss what inspired me for this one!
I’d like to give a shout out to my beloved aunt Suzi, for bringing me along. She’s got the talent, and for her to say I have any outside the kitchen or craft room is a huge compliment! Thanks, S!

Hi everyone,
I'm Lea from Escondido and this is my first time doing Nano. I've thought about it for a couple of years but never did it before. I figure now is the time as I've had this idea for a young adult fantasy story for more than six months now. The story won't leave my head and so it's time to get it written!
I look forward to going through this journey with all of you.
Cheers!

Hi everyone! I'm another Encinitas resident, doing this for the first time. I've heard people talk about this for the past two years, and finally worked up the gumption to sign up.
I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to work on for this project, but as long as I can find some characters, my stories mostly tend to write themselves. I'm sure, though, I will find myself stuck a couple times, so I look forward to being able to work with people and get this project completed! Good luck to fellow NoCo Writers!
Keep it gooberlicious :)

You made a good choice. The best way to get the story to leave your
head is to get it into your computer.

Hello everyone,
I'm Christie and I live in Vista. Woo!
I've signed on for another year of NaNo... this year being my 4th attempt. I have never known what to do to plan in advance for the writing, but at least this year I've got some fresh spiral notebooks to work with (no laptop.... yet).
I see that people are talking about characters and plots already and it has me a bit freaked out. LOL If anyone has some suggestions to help a girl out, that would be great. There are 7 more days to work with the pre-writing stuffs, so bring it on!
As far as personal interests go, I like to read mostly non-fiction books. Right now I'm on a kick of reading biographies of the founding fathers. Ooooooh yeah. :-D (Part of why I have trouble getting creative I think... my whole life is about what's already happened and about the very near future, though I do like to visualize... but I still can't seem to get more than a year so ahead in that.) Other than that, I spend plenty of time online using StumbleUpon and am constantly refreshing my e-mail inbox.
I hope to make some of the write-ins this year, soooooooo... yup. That's it!
Take care and see you soon!

You're not the only one who doesn't have much of a plan for the novel. The kick off party will have some exercises to help the story move along.

Hi Jim and the Gang
Greg here, from Escondido, back again into the fun and anguish. Sorry I missed the Saturday kickoff. I had to work at my real job. (Systems Engineering)
I'm a veteran of the 2004, 2005 and 2006 battles, making the finish line, but never actually completing a full story. (They'd probably have taken at least another 50Kwords.)
Last fall, instead of NaNo, I took the Novel Writing I course at UCSD. Let's see if it did any good. [You can imagine how well the NaNo virtue of uncontrolled verbosity matches up with polished paragraghs -- like a bull in a butcher shop.]
Again, staying in the adventure genre, I plan to reuse some of my prior characters. But this time I may set them back into the 1930's and use an imaginary Latin American setting. And esclate the conflict from family and local disputes to international intrigue.
I hope to meet many of you at a write-in.

Hilohoy to everyone in North San Diego County!
And a big thanks to Jim for being our coordinator person, it looks like you're really on top of that!
My name is Tom, and I live in Escondido. Soon I'll be commuting to UCSD on a daily basis however, as I'm transferring there in winter and am SO excited! New writing workshops get me more excited than a dung beetle in a cow pasture! As for my other interests beyond the already obvious one of writing...
I am a dancer. I am learning Jazz dance, and have taken Ballroom dancing for some time. I also am learning vocals, and classical guitar. I am also into Boxing- I'm a member at Unleashed. Also, my heart is beating waiting for the snowboarding season to start up again. Snow, snow, snow! Basically, my interests cover every form of communication- whether it be through touch, music, or in another language. I suppose the boxing is a bit more violent form of communication, but it certainly is a mode of expression! Not.. Quite sure how snowboarding communicates, but I sure do enjoy it.
This will be my first time writing for NanoWrimo, and my goodness, I can't wait! My best friend told me about this thing this morning, and I've jumped right on it. Alas, she won't be joining us as she is writing her own novel currently, which takes priority. But I'll write enough for us both! 50,000 words here I come! This will be my first work ever of this length! I've never written anything over 20 pages, let alone 175! Yeeee! I'm a Writing/Spanish Literature major, and this is going to be my first major work, first major work, first major work!
I think I've gotten the point across.. I'm excited. I wish I could make it to the write-ins on the 1st and 2nd, but I unfortunately work both days from 12:30-7:00PM. GAH! I'll just have to make it to some other events and write on my own.
Anyone who wants a partner for writing any other time, let me know!
Thanks for reading,
Tom

Hi Tom :-)
It's great to have you with us.
You'll have plenty of chances to communicate during NaNoWriMo through novel writing, posting in the forum, and talking with other writers at the write-ins.
Depending on popular demand we could schedule write-ins on Saturday mornings and weeknights.

Everyone is encouraged to schedule write-ins and post the place, date, and time on this forum (as a new topic.) If you do schedule a write-in, you're promising the group that you will be there.
If you let me know about your write-ins, I'll add them to the calendar. (See the link at the top of the main forum page.) I'll also include them in the weekly (approximately) group email.
It would probably not be a good idea to schedule a write-in for this coming Tuesday (election day.)
I'm going to schedule write-ins for next week's Monday and Wednesday nights in Vista.
Due to mileage considerations, I'll only be attending write-ins in Vista. That's why it would be wonderful to have lots of people scheduling write-ins all over the place.
What the heck. Schedule them is Vista if you like. I'll probably be there if I haven't scheduled a different one at the same time.
