Hi all. Just wondering if there are any other UW-Milwaukee students this year.

Well, there is me. I am classified staff at UWM, but have taken courses for credit here now and then. Last courses I took were on the Ojibwe language with Roger Thomas. I hold a graduate certificate in mediation and negotiation from UWM. So, you could say I was a student here in addition to having worked here in IT for 25 years.

This is my first attempt to write a novel in 30 days. It is daunting, but exciting. For the past three years I have been writing (gulp) Star Trek fan fiction. Yes, I suppose that cements my butt in geekdom, even if my chosen profession has not already done that.

A woman in my writer's group told me about this contest, so I signed up. So, who else at UWM is attempting this novel writing?

I'm a student there, and thinking about participating.

I'm a freshman here. I have an idea for this, and I have a few pages written, but nothing set in stone quite yet.

We should meet up sometime!

I'm a staff member at UWM, and my sister (who participates in nano also) is a student there :)

If anyone is interested in meeting up this weekend or next, around UWM or Riverwest or even Brady Street, we should do so. I don't have the time, car, or inclination to head all the way to the southside for a meet-up, and I imagine others feel the same. Even if there is no formal writing involved, it would still be neat to see what other people are up to and get to know some faces, right? I recommend the Fuel Cafe on Center and Fratney. They have good liquid-energy and ample seating!

Feel free to email me at erpava@gmail.com.

I might take you up on that offer. I looked up how to get there on google maps by public transit, and it takes about an hour to get there, half an hour of walking.

Wow, it took me about ten minutes to get onto the website. I can't quite figure out how to upload my progress either...

But yes, if you live anywhere near campus, it's a little over or a little under a mile to Riverwest. From where I live it's .8 miles to the EMS building. A quick walk and an even quicker bike ride for me. I usually end up passing buses on foot. :)

Yeah, the site is getting a lot of traffic right now. To change your progress, go to "My NaNoWriMo" and click "Edit Novel Info." You can change the amount of words there. We should definitely meet up at the Fuel Cafe next weekend - I would suggest tomorrow, but I work.

Just looked it up on google maps, and by public transit it would take about 15 minutes, by walking about half an hour. This is from where I live, at Sandburg.

Thanks for the tip.

Next weekend should be good for me. I suppose I could always come over to UWM as well.

Do you know anyone else who is doing this? All of my friends are too weak and puny to attempt such a feat.

I'm a freshman at UWM. I'm in the 8th Note most of my free time during school, in Sector 2. Stop by and ask if Lita's there (pronounced Lee-duh) if you want to meet up. I'll most likely have no shoes on and be eating pizza. :P

P.S. Sector 2's the one by the weird painting on the wall, across from where you order.

I attend UWM, too. I'm a supersenior and...I have no idea what posessed me to attempt NaNoWriMo. It seemed like an excellent way to get my brain juices flowing towards actually writing again (something I haven't done since finishing my creative writing class a couple semesters ago). I should have started thinking about it sooner, though, because as it is I didn't think to possibly compete until November 2nd, started unofficially participating on my own and today decided I wanted to actually officially participate by creating an account. Group solidarity and all that. As it is I'm a bit behind in word count...I'm hoping to get caught up the next couple of days. Surpassing needed wordcount would be ideal but I'm not going to get my hopes up since I have classwork that needs to get done as well in the upcoming weeks.

Hello all.

I am a UWM grad with a creative writing degree. This is my third NaNo.

I'm looking to get together for a number of write-in's and such on the East Side. I have a thread on here "Daily Spots on the East Side". If anyone wants to get together, email me at wifantasywriter@gmail.com. I check my mail regularly. As it is, I'm on my way to the Stone Creek in Shorewood right now.

If anyone would like to meet on campus during the day sometime, let me know. I'm not far at all, and I can always hop on the 62.

Cheers,
JB

Sophomore going into the School of Education at UW-Milwaukee. First year participating, although I've heard about this for the last three or four years.

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student up at UWM. I joined a bit late and all and this is my first time doing nanowrimo but I've been writing forever.

Hey, go for it! See how far you get in the time that is left. Write like a fiend over the Thanksgiving weekend. If you are in engineering you must inhabit the EMS building. I am down in the basement of EMS, the Data Center all day, which has the ceilings torn down and the raised flooring torn up for a renovation right now. We are working with bare light bulbs instead of light fixtures. So it is a great pleasure to go home and write NaNoWriMO!
