Write-in: Subway restaurant (near Fenway Park) Please note: there has been a schedule change; read below for details.

When: Sun, Nov 30, 2 - 6 pm

Where: Subway, 1315 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02215 (Google maps link)

Description: We return to Subway this evening for a write-in from 2- 6 pm. The folks at this Subway have always been super-nice (and indulgent) to our band of crazed wrimos taking over the back of the store. Please show them a little love and purchase something while we're there -- even a drink -- to show our appreciation.

MBTA: The Subway is located near the Kenmore stop on the Green Line (B,C,D lines). It is also very near the Route 55 bus (Boylston St. at Jersey St.) and a couple of blocks from the 8, 19, 60, and 65 buses (Boylston St. at Park Drive).

Driving: See the Google Maps link above for driving directions. On-street parking is metered, but can be scarce. Local parking lots (Landmark Center, Trilogy building) are pricey but convenient.

Check your official Boston calendar of events for info on this and other events.

This write-in is extra long in order to encourage as many people as can make it to come in and write. Please note that Subway does not have an open wireless network, so it's important that you allow yourself time to get home, boot up, and upload your final word count before midnight -- especially if you're cutting it close!

While many of the supplies we normally bring to write-ins are missing, I have purchased all the materials necessary to make the Goal Board -- a very important motivator to keep people writing. (I also borrowed a heavy-duty tripod that's absurdly stable for the group photo at the end, but that's less writing-related and more Travis-related). If you have extension cords and/or power strips, please bring them along to help out your electrically-challenged fellow wrimos. (And if you do bring in additional supplies, please please please label it with your name so we know to whom to return it!)

We also have door prizes to give out -- all new stuff!

  1. For the chocolate lovers out there, imported directly from Germany, a box of Ferrero Prestige Chocolates -- a superb assortment of irresistable chocolates and, according to the box, "A very special gift for your loved ones." How perfect! (Just don't mention to my better half, Jarvis, that you have these. He might have thought his recent trip to Europe entitled him to all the candy he brought home. Silly man!)
  2. Stress balls! -- the perfect thing to keep your typing hands strong and agile, and to break up the repetitive motions that cause carpal tunnel and other RSIs.
  3. Flash drive cases -- complete with a handy clip, these can securely hold two USB flash drives and will attach to your bag, your luggage, or wherever you want to keep it.
  4. And for the handy dandy types out there, a Swiss+Tech Micro-Tech 6-in-1 -- this little dookickeymabob has pliers, a wire cutter, wire stripper, sheet shear (what is that for, anyway), a #2 flat screwdriver and a #2 phillips screwdriver, with a BONUS! 1/8" Rule Marks. It also locks securely onto your keyring. (I got all that off the packaging).

A reminder to double-check your time settings under your profile, so that you're able to validate your novels right up until midnight local time. The site doesn't compensate for daylight savings time, so you need to double check this so that you don't lose a vital hour of noveling time.

As you've seen from other forum posts and that last e-mail, you won't have nametags at this event. Don't let that discourage you. Please, attend anyway: your MLs could use the morale boost!
