I was hoping there would be some sort of a writing/ drinking group posted here... but since there isn't one yet, I'll start the idea.
Wednesday's might be a good night. It is for me at least; not a busy night, but no deadlines to meet at work on Thursday morning either ; ) ! Perhaps we should start on the 29th with a meet and greet and a sharing of thoughts, hopes and dreams? Now all we need is a time and place. Dark Horse seems to be a fairly quiet bar, located at approximately Baseline and 28th/ 36. I also like that location because I can stumble back home to my apartment across the street and probably not get lost. But I am open to any and all suggestions! Really, any night, and time after 5pm and any place is good for me. I just want to have a little support group with a glass or five of wine.
Of course this idea would have to be for the 21 plusers, but perhaps we should also organize an all ages weekly meet up at a coffee shop? Just because I'm an alcoholic doesn't mean I need to exclude others.
So what do we think? Don't make me have to go all the way to Denver for my time wasting when I should be writing!

Just a note if you decided on the Dark Horse, it is under-21 friendly until 9pm (or 10, I can't quite remember) We've done write-ins there in the past and I've never run into problems (plus they have incredible burgers)

That sounds fantastic- meeting on the 29th would be fun. I second meeting at the Dark Horse- it has some pretty darn good burgers. (But I'm under 21, so no happy hour for me.)
I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea for me to make it a weekly thing, but I'd at least be able to go on the 29th.

I'm not sure if they have outlets. I meant to go there last night and check, but my laziness won over.
Let's at least plan on meeting there the 29th, because know I know at least one other person is interested!

Hey! I'm in for burgers and beer...ummmm...I mean writing...yeah. that would be really fun - every year I vow to do this, sign up, my friend and i both write and write and then peter out. So we have promised this year to NOT be set out to write the 'great american novel' but to just have fun and really create the story as we go. So some support in this would be awesome!!!! - judy

I should be able to be there on the 29th. I tend not to be available on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, but the 29th is, happily, a 5th Wednesday. Weather permitting, I'll bike on down.
Mongoose, you and remember similarly. We used to like to meet around that large table towards the front of the house - not the side with the huge TVs, but the one with the small ones - and I'd put a long-corded power strip in an outlet just around the wall. The manager gave us a hard time for it once, but I think it was only mock-scolding.
Anyone know whether the Dark Horse has begun offering wi-fi yet? They hadn't last time I went. It was a good place for that reason to just put my nose down and write write write, but I couldn't update my word count until I got home or until I trekked around the corner to Brewing Market.
Edited to add: I've put it on the Regional Calendar for 6 PM until 9 PM, with a note that some may arrive early and some over-21'rs may stay late. Let me know if we should alter that in any way, K?

My availability is rotten. I think I will be out of town most of November for work. Well up until just before T-giving. Can I still meet and greet with y'all on the 29th if that happens?

I don't see why not! Take what opportunities you can get, right? Also, you might want to consider checking out the forums of the region where you will be most of November - just because you'll be away from your home region shouldn't mean you should spend NaNoWriMo in isolation!
Double-checking: We're talking about October 29th, right? Wednesday, October 29th...

I would do this, but I am car-less, and that isn't an easy location for me to get to. :\ I'm in Gunbarrel. If I can ever find a ride, I'd show up though!

I signed up for NaNo last year and wrote for 3 days. I am definitely looking forward to finding a group to keep the energy up and to meet some friendly faces in the process. Wednesdays work for me!

Hey, I work in Gunbarrel so I could at least give you a ride there, if interested. You would probably have to find another way home, though... I plan on drinking enough to make my driving illegal. You can catch many of the main boulder buses nearby the darkhorse, take them to the station at 14th and Walnut, and then take the 205 back to Gunbarrel. I've done it many times, but it does take a long time.
I'm so happy people are interested in this! I can't wait to meet everyone and I'll be there at 6ish!

Sounds like fun. I will try to be there on the 29th, unless I get something similar going in Longmont. A little late. Oh, well. If there are any Longmonters listening, would you be interested in joining me at either Deja Brew or my house (near Nelson and S. Airport Rd).

So, is there going to be a sign or a funny hat or something to designate the NaNo group? I definitely want to come, but I'll feel weird walking around asking everybody, "Hey, are you the people I'm here to meet...?"

I could swear I made this post already, like, yesterday, but it is GONE. Did I accidentally hit "Report" instead of reply, causing one of the powers that be to get a very confusing email? Maybe I previewed but never posted?
IN ANY CASE... Table Tents are a great idea for making group recognition easy. I printed me out one yesterday and will bring it with me when I go! To make your own, it's really easy. Just get some light cardstock and print one of these templates out onto it. (Link goes to the Chicago Nanos and their wonderful list of resources!)
Failing that, keep an eye out for the group with lots of laptops, many of them bearing NanoWriMo Stickers. (There are new stickers this year! Aren't you excited?)

Kia and Terry and I had a great time talking about possible plots and write-ins, and lamenting the inactivity thus far of the area Kia will be in most of November. Hopefully she'll have good news for us come Thanskgiving about the NanoRevolution she singlehandedly orchestrated!
The Dark Horse still has no wi-fi of their own, sadly, but the burgers remain yummy and the beer was cold and tasty. All the TVs were tuned to sports or prime-time TV shows. We were at one of the back tables - well, "back" isn't very descriptive. Ok. So let's say you're facing the bar? Turn around and face away from it. Proceed to the back wall. We were at the table directly on your left, the one with a window peering back at the bar and a 4-plug electrical socket at the end of the bench. I think it'll be a nice place for late-night write-ins!

BREWING MARKET BASELINE & BROADWAY
has a phenomenal set-up for laptops. Tons of outlets, tons of tables. The back room is student haven for finals time. There's a fireplace, too.
Coffee is awesome, Tea is Republic of . . . not too bad, lots of chocolate choices and a good pastry case.
Oh, and it's next door to Wild Oats Turned Whole Foods and downstairs from Taj Mahal's fabulous (though a bit pricey) Indian Food. Einstein's Bagels & Starbucks are in the same lot. Herb's Meats has awesome frozen key lime pie. I think The Egg & I is still there.
Point is . . . food, good coffee and outlets are there . . . "In abundance" (Frank N. Further)

I'm trying to picture where this is in relation to where I live.
How far is it from Sunflower Market? I think it's pretty close, but I'm not able to picture the exact strip mall Starbucks/Whole Foods is in.

I don't know that anything *has* been decided...
What's everyone's interest in a weekly Wednesday?
Dark Horse has food, beer, soda and no wi-fi - and some people find wi-fi to be a distraction when trying to pound out their daily 1667!
Brewing Market has wi-fi, snacks, and coffee/tea, but seating can be difficult on a Wednesday.
I don't think I'll be able to make either on a regular basis, as I have a 2nd and 4th Wednesday commitment. But that's neither here nor there. Who's going to show up where? Should I put both on the calendar?

I will try to make it to the Brewing Market tonight...I was hoping for the Dark Horse, but I really just need to get out of the house and write. I'll be the one typing on a purple laptop and smoking two cigarettes. If anybody wants to do the Dark Horse some future Wednesday, let me know...Wednesdays are good for me and I like to drink and write.
