OK, oldtimers how has this worked in years past for you? I mean the nuts and bolts. The writing I can do...but how do you enter your word count, let the bosses "see" your work, do the things I don't know to ask about because I haven't done em yet?
Someone (likely one of my professors...hey, maybe Constance Pierce) once told me that when writers get together they talk about pencils, pens, and paper...not so much the craft itself.
That's what I'd like to know about: the pens and pencils of NaNoWriMo.
Thanks in advance

I freaked about that last year too. But there is a tutorial on the site and anyone who has done it before will be happy to show you because we want your counts regularly as there tend to be regional challenges. Maybe someone who is "live" at the launch party would give a demo on the daily count. The daily count is slightly different from the "final" count in that it's on the honor system whereas the final count you have to upload your "scrambled" text and the system counts it to get your purple winner's bar.
Trust me, just do it and the how will appear when you need it. Big faith, believe hard.

OK, I will "do" it when the time arrives. I don't think I'll make the launch party...my third invite to something on that day & I accepted the first--which was kinda necessary since it's birthday dinner at my parent's.
I didn't find a tutorial on the site just a lot of FAQs. Can you point me to it? If it was replaced by FAQs, I'm fine. I freak out until something starts, then I'm clam-boy.
Thanks for your reply!

Tim,
Don't worry, it's not too bad at all. If you go to your 'My Nanowrimo Page' there's a link on the left in red that says 'Novel Info.' If you go there there's a box where you just copy and paste what you've written so far. It will auto-calculate your wordcount for you. Or, I believe, you can enter it in manually. (Of course, I don't think this'll be enabled until November)
I'm not sure how they'll validate at the end of the month, but it should be equally easy.

Hi Tim,
It's not in FAQs. In My NaNoWriMo (your profile) in the sidebar list is "Novel Info" (yes there is a tab but that's different)
Click the link in the sidebar and it opens to a page that starting on the 1st you can add information about your work-in-progress including word counts.
In the word count box there are two slots. The top one is the daily honor system count where you can manually enter any number you wish. The box below will be turned on toward the end and that's where you paste your "scrambled text" for the widget to validate and award your purple bar.
Hope that helps with the butterflies.
