If you're trying to find your post, we feel you. There's a few things at work that can be affecting your missing post.

1) There is a 15 minute site cache. If you start a new topic, you'll notice it says at the top:

Quote:
This site employs caching during peak demand times, it may take 15 minutes for your post to appear on the forums.

This means that the topic list won't update for that time, minimum, sometimes a little more.

2) Your post got buried. This is the busiest forum on the site, so you may want to page page several pages and make sure it didn't fall off.

3) Your post got moved. This forum is for asking those nitty-gritty how-to questions that add a little realism to your plot and characters. It's not for asking plot help or character help questions. If we find a post that's out of place, we'll move it to a more appropriate forum. To find such posts, you can use google (add site: nanowrimo to the search terms), or subscribe to your post and look at your notifications list in your "My NaNoWriMo" tab.

Before posting, always think and make sure it wouldn't fit better somewhere else. For example, questions about dragons and mermaids might be better suited for the Fantasy forum.

It's also worth noting that any posts made before October 1 at 11:00 PM PST have been deleted, it seems.

Yes. This is due to the wipe. I appreciate it - it makes the forum easier to manage initially!

They weren't lost! They've actually been transported to our special holding tank, where they will percolate for an unspecified amount of time, and then be released as an archive, located under Fun Stuff in the main menu!

Oh, shitake mushrooms. I'm a newbie to Nano, so I had no idea that the forum would be wiped -- I had bookmarked all sorts of very helpful threads in the Character and Plot Realism and Plot Doctoring sections that were so informative or answered my questions or were inspiring ...but now all of them are gone. I'm kicking myself for not thinking to save the pages manually to my hard-drive. :/ Ach.

the URLs will be different, but they haven't gone bye-bye. They'll appear eventually under "Fun Stuff" in the archives. I don't have an ETA on when that will be (It's pretty low priority at this point.

The fact that you save them at all, with all the overhead it takes, is a gift.

I appreciate it.

Just to note the advice you gave about using Google to search the site isn't working at the moment. It links to things that have been wiped, and then when clicked on them it says page not found. I am sure this will be fixed when the goggle bots get around to looking around this site, I just thought I would give people a heads up.

Yes, we are aware of this, and it's just a matter of time. We launched less than 24 hours ago, so the site hasn't gotten a chance to catch up. It has been reported in the Tech Help forum.

Honestly, though, Google is what powers our current search site now, so there shouldn't be a need to go off-site!

I think the forum ate my post. :p I just posted yesterday, about epic battles and syringes, but I can't find it anywhere, and no search engine is doing any good! Did it get moved?

It must have been moved. I remember looking at that thread; hopefully Dragonchilde knows where it went, because I can't find it!

Are we allowed to bump threads that fall off the front page or is that just "Not done?"

You are absolutely allowed to bump threads!

Just be aware that if you do, your post will be removed from the "Lonely Posts" thread. (It's the easiest way for me to know when to take a post off the list - it has a reply, it comes down, even if that reply is just a bump.)

Well my post isn't yet in the Lonely Posts thread, I think I'll leave it unbumped, but Please pretty please if someone could add it to the lonely Posts list...Pretty pretty please?

It's the Medical School in the 90's post and it's already fallen almost to the bottom of page two...

That one should be in there; I'm sure I listed it last time I updated.

I was just wondering if the thread relating to Bipolar Disorder got deleted. I can't find it anywhere. I know a few people were getting rather angry so I can understand why if it was eradicated.

We had to lock it a couple of days ago, but we didn't delete it. It'll be way near the back somewhere by now, I expect. Try page 10 or later (depending on when you see this reply).

Speaking of the wipe, I seem to remember there once being somewhere a lovely sticky directory where I could find a list of Topics, formatted as such: [TOPIC] Whatever. Was that this forum and those topics have all been wiped and now I have to start a new thread (not a [TOPIC] thread; I know better than that), or am I in the wrong forum/not looking hard enough?

You're in the right forum!

We've had to discontinue the [TOPIC] posts this year - it's a very difficult thing to manage. Instead, we've gone back to having people offer their expertise in various subjects (see the Experty Goodness thread).

So, you can start a new thread or scour the however many pages we're up to and see if you can find an old thread that is similar to your subject (an interesting note: we have three on ADHD already) and post there.

Hi, I posted some questions on how the average English lawyer would spend their day and I've trawled back to threads started about 8 days ago and can't find it. Has it been moved or merged? I've seen a lot of threads about US lawyers, but nothing on lawyers in the UK in general or England in particular.

We suggest that everyone subscribe to their posts, or at least bookmark them. This is a VERY busy forum, and it doesn't take long at all for posts to get bumped back ten or more pages. Your post is here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3297648
