Places, dates, times? Maybe just meet ups with fellow NaNo-ers? Halloween parties?
Discuss it all here, lovelies. Oh, and do you live on or off campus? Makes it easier to plan.

This is easily the most exciting thing I've read all day :) I'm all over the idea of write ins! I live on campus (and both of my roommates think I'm insane and/or don't understand why anyone would do nanowrimo. I tried to explain how brilliant it is but that was a total failure). No ideas other than the library for places as far as write ins go, but time-wise I'm out of classes by 3:30 every weekday.

I'm so in for write ins! I live on campus. Last year one of the RAs in Vanier set up a group, but I think she's on exchange now. We could probably book a room for write ins at Irving. They let you book online. Totally awesome.

Irving seems as good a place as any. :3 And we can always book under different people's names if we want to have a few of them. Given that it's a 5-20 minute walk from most of us here.
I get out of all my classes by 4, but I'm sometimes busy on Tuesdays.
----------Except one Saturday I know of, I think I'm free all weekends. Although I do want to see 2012.

I'll be sort of available from 9-11 on Mondays and Fridays (10-11 on Wednesdays) and after 12:30 on Thursdays =) I'm tentative about these times because there's just too much school stuff going on during November.
And I live off-campus.

I enjoyed the Vanier write-ins so much! Good times & good people! I agree that Irving would be an ideal place, quiet and pretty central (taking residences and bus loop into account). Downside is the lack of snacking potential in some of the rooms (not that it isn't snuck-in anyways). Snacks were absolutly a plus last year.
----------I also live on campus, and my schedule will probably change up a bit, but so far anything late afternoon (and so forth) would be fine with me.

I live a fair bit off campus, but I'm definitely interested in coming by for write-ins at Barber. I get off at 3 Mon/Wed/Fri and at 5 on Tues/Thurs.
I, too, am quite nervous about the amount of school work that seems to pile up around November.. but that's just going to make it all the more crazy exciting haha XD

How do write ins work exactly?

I don't know about the UBC write-ins, but in general a write-in works something like the following:
- People arrive around the posted start time and maybe greet each other while setting up their computers.
- Everyone settles down and starts writing. No talking, just working on your own novel.
- After about 20 minutes or so, you might take a break and chat for a few minutes and then it's back to writing.
Each organizer can set the rules for their particular write-in and, if necessary, use a timer for the writing times and the talking times.
So far, I have never had any problems at NaNo write-ins with people showing up and wanting to talk instead of write. I think that that is partly because we do have the "Sunday meetup" during November and people are free to talk at that event, so they don't bother people at write-ins.
Bottom line: the organizer for the particular write-in should let you know what his/her guidelines are.

Hey all!
I live in Vanier, and I'm usually not here on weekends, but I get off class at 1:00 on tues/thurs and 4 on all other days :) Irving sounds cool for write-ins... when would we start having them?

In terms of Irving, it looks like there are study rooms that are open -- they only have seats for 8, but I bet we could drag in chairs from elswhere if needed. Booking is here . It looks like evenings would work best for the majority. And I once had a study group that brought in a pizza for pi R squared, so I don't think that will be too much of a limitation :)
I'd really love to do a kickoff, but I'm not sure where we could gather since if we want to do a kickoff write-in, that would occur pretty late at night. I'd have to run it past my suitemates, but I'd be OK with hosting at my dorm, maybe in a lounge?.
ETA: so I made a Facebook group, if anyone is interested, and to lure in people in the UBC network.

Ok, so I've booked room 315 in Barber for Thursday the 5th from 630-830, if that works for anybody. Woodward and Koerner seem to have study rooms that no one is booking if those hours are too late.
ETA: I just noticed that this also the date of the Official Vancouver Write-In at the Vancouver Public Library. Would most people want to go there instead?

Is anyone free to do a daytime write-in? I am "lucky" enough to have just lost my job right at the end of October, and now have the month of November to mull over options for the future as I pour my heart into this 50,000 word journey. Anyways, as such, I have lots of flexibilty, and find I prefer writing mid-day, instead of in the evening...Anyone else the same way? Wanna meet up at Intellegensia Cafe at 4th Ave. and Blenheim Street? It's not REALLY UBC, but it's actually quite close (less than 10 minutes by bus from campus). Although the drinks are not super-fantastic there, it's really quiet, comfy, and spacious. And they never rush people out. Hehe. ..Let me know! :D Thanks~ Best of luck with the start of this month!! Yay!

Hey guys! So, I applied late for residence because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to afford it annd, when I decided that I could... completely full. I live a long ass way away from campus but I have pretty early classes. I end at 2 every day, 'cept for Tues when I don't have class at all. I don't mind staying later... but not massively so as mornings come rather early for me.
Irving sounds like a good place to have on of these, and I'm free after 2, as I said, all days but Tues. I wouldn't mind coming in on Tues to write though! I think I may need a solid kick in the ass to get this done. Doing good so far, but I'm worried about continued motivation.
I'll be checking back for a solid date and time! Hope to see you guys soon!

Oh, awesome! So which day of the week would work best for you? I am pretty flexible for any time on weekdays, but definitely think that the earlier in the day the better for getting started. :) Do you think this coming Thursday, Nov. 5th, would be good? Thanks~
And as per my earlier post, maybe doing it off-campus in Kits might be an idea, too. I think I'll find myself doing lots of writing in Intellegensia Cafe, one way or another, as it's pretty ideal for a writing location.

I don't intend to go to the VPL meet up, so I am okay with one in Barber - but whatever other people want is fine by me. :3 If we can get a few people on it, we could set it up so maybe Tuesday and Thursdays, from X to Y, we are in Barber? Just come whenever you have the time, or whatever.
