Howdy NaNoLanta-
We have declared war on Denver, in the friendly competition sort of way.
Last year, there were one spot above us in the final word count.
We were 19th with 10,950,215 words, and they were 18th with 11,107,174 words.
Last year we donated 1,265.00 and ranked 21st for donations, and they ranked 12th with 1,950.00 donated.
We can totally beat them...in both areas.
So, throughout this year's NaNoWriMo, we will be battling Denver over which mountains of words reigns supreme - our Appalachians or their Rockies.

There's also a team function in the sponsorship area. We could have a "Team Atlanta" and post about it on our blogs, or mention it to friends and family for donations.

Okay.. I gotta say it. It's been eating me up all day. I'm a little green with envy at the moment.
Denver has their own website.
Denver has a nifty Regional Events calendar built into their Regional View tab - with events and target word counts!
Denver has a write-a-thon, kinda like the Nanowrimo Night of Writing Dangerously.
*sniff* *sniff*
At least we're still beating them on donations.

I do have an unlimited reseller account with my hosting company, so I can fix that first one, and the calender part as well. :) Give me the weekend, and I can probably have something set up.
Which do y'all prefer? nanoatlanta.org or nanowrimoatl.org?

Heya:
Tia (another ML) and me have been talking over plans for a website - website name nanolanta.org . Tia's got a hosting thing as well, so let me check with her about it before you go and do one too :-D We can't use "nanowrimo" in the title for copywright reasons, but we can use nano or wrimo. But I like the NaNoLanta name :-D
We will have the nifty google calendar thing up as soon as we get events finalized - we need the events to put on the calendar before having the calendar :-) The Calendar widgit thing is connected automatically to google calendars - we the MLs just have to get the google calendar up and running. I promise we're working on it :-D

While I was thinking about it today, I reactivated the old NaNoWriMoATL chatroom and did some updates to it. I know in years past people liked having a chatroom for online write-ins so it's there if anyone wants to use it.

I am so excited so many of us are excited all about the same ideas! Celestial - another ML out there has some chat hosting thing. I asked for a room for atlanta this year - when we get it, lets take a look to see which has better features (I don't know which one does) because I am all for having a chatroom again this year.
Design crew - if you're interested in helping with the webpage design, or other design-realted things, shoot me a private message with your email addy and let's get talking!

I have a host with plenty of space I'm not using, so I already volunteered to handle the web aspect....the issue is coming up with lots of good content. What all should we put on there? I'd really like it to be more than a blog, some links, and the google calendar (note to self: see if it's embeddable.) As well, if anyone has any preferences for color schemes or any free use/your own images you might like to see used in design or just posted, throw them at me. (For those that don't know, I run JanNoWriMo, so that's the sort of thing I design and would like to put together, with content like the icons, the pep talk archives, the on-site word counter, etc.)

Denver's beating us in the donation race by about 200 dollars so far! Lets get donating people!! NaNo can't run this site, and we wouldn't have met or head about NaNo, without the donations of those before us.

I personally am waiting for more of my books, Murder On The Silver Comet Trail to sell so I will actually have something to donate! It is fiction, written 2 years before the murder, and published 2 years after the murder. It won NaNo in 2004. I posted about Murder On The Silver Comet Trail on a few sites today, including a music site.

Oh no worries, I understand that some people are waiting for different reasons. I'm also waiting because I usually donate out of my change jar, which currently stands at $22.69 - I'm hoping I can get it to $45, because I do get a lot of change from serving tables, etc.

Denver shall prevail!!!
Hello Atlanta! I noticed that no one had commented on this thread in two days, and decided to remedy the situation. I was just stopping by to say I hope you all had a happy first day of noveling, and I hope you are having fun now, because you might not have as much fun at the end of the month when we have beaten you. (Dare I say "into submission?!?!?!?!")
Love,
kaitimae - a friendly (no, really, I am!) competitor from DENVER aka the best of all cities in the land.
Really though, best of luck this month. I think it will help both of our regions to have a lively competition to spur our word counts and donations onward and upward. Come by and say hi!

Digging a little deeper into the current stats,
Our average word count per WriMo reporting a wordcount is slightly higher - 2,567 vs. 2,441 for them. That means our 200k difference comes down to the number of people - hitting up a little math, we've got around 80 more people reporting a word count than they do. And that makes me happy to no end.
Great job guys! Let's keep the momentum rolling...right over Denver :-D

As if Denver beating us in donations isn't bad enough, you know who else is beating us?
Augusta.
That's right. Augusta, Georgia is currently (as I'm writing this) tied with Denver. Each region has donated $1025, while Atlanta has donated $765.
We can't let another Georgia region beat us, can we?
