Hello Fellow Writers,

Was it a slip of my fingers that I originally typed "2099" instead of "2009" for the header of this post? Where will we be in 2099? How many thousands upon thousands of words will we have penned by that time? And what will NaNoWriMo look like in 90 years? I'm not entirely crazy...(well, yes I am, but that's another matter entirely)...what with the advancements in life-extension, some of us might still be around! Of course, by then, we'll just "think" our novels onto our peanut-sized gazillion-byte PC's. Hmmm...this is beginning to sound like a story idea to me....

But, I digress.

Welcome back to the present, where we brave souls will give up all hope of regular sleep while we churn out 50,000 words (or more) beginning November 1st. I will try to keep my verbosity to a minimum while I encourage us all on to winning that coveted prize, that golden ring from the carousel of creativity---a fully downloadable winner's certificate suitable for framing that affords you complete and total bragging rights to say, "Yes, I wrote a novel in thirty days."

And what's one great way to achieve this monumental feat?

WRITE-INS!!!

For those new to NaNoWriMo, write-ins are when a group of Wrimos get together to...well...write! We are very fortunate here in Sonoma County to have the Library on board for this year's NaNoWriMo. There will be weekly write-ins held at various branches throughout the county (more info to be posted in this forum later). Some of our old standbys will return as well--we'll have at least one weekly write-in at Borders Books in Santa Rosa, and we may also revive the Peets (Eastside) Petaluma write-ins.

Write-ins can occur anytime and anyplace that works well for the task at hand. They can be as short as an hour or two, or as long as an all-day marathon. What's more? ANYONE can schedule a write-in. Want to have one in the park on Sunday morning at 8:00 AM? Go for it! (Although, I'll probably skip that one, if you don't mind.)

Feel free to post any and all write-ins in our forum. It makes sense to me to have each write-in location have it's own separate post, i.e., one for Borders, one for Peets, etc. That way, anyone looking for info on a specific write-in can find it quickly.

KICK-OFF EVENT

Stay tuned to the forum for information about a kickoff event for this year, which will be at the Central Branch of the Library in Santa Rosa during the last week of October.

That's all for now!

Thanks for kicking off the 2009 season, Debbie!
Here's the info for the Sonoma County Library :

Writers are invited to attend a launch event at the Central Branch on Third and E Streets in Santa Rosa on Monday, Oct. 26th at 6:00 p.m. Debbie has promised to be there to lead the charge on 50,000 words in 30 days!

The library write-ins will be :
Central, Mondays 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. (I'll be there!)
Healdsburg, Mondays 5:00-8:30 p.m.
Rincon Valley, Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Petaluma, Tuesdays 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. except Nov. 17th (I'll be there, too!)
Sebastopol, schedule varies, please see the calendar at the web site www.sonomalibrary.org

We've also planned two writers' panels for the month as well! These will be at the Central Branch on the corner of E and 3rd Street in Santa Rosa.
Mystery writers Cara Black, Allison Brennan, Mark Coggins, Michelle Gagnon and Nadia Gordon will appear on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. to discuss their experience with writing and publishing a mystery novel.
AND
Fiction writers Carolyn Jewel, Sophie Littlefield, Rachelle Chase, and Joann Smith Ainsworth will appear on Wednesday, Nov. 18th at 7 p.m. to talk about writing and publishing fiction in various genres.

I'm hoping to write my 50,000 words as well, but now that I look at my schedule for November, I'm not so sure I will get that far!

HOORAH! We have MLs this year! I'm so excited to have you two as our MLs. Thank you so much for stepping in this year to be the ringleaders of the Sonoma County WriMo circus! I assure you that I am one of many participants who will show up to almost each and every write-in with caffeinated gusto and writerly ambition.
AND YAY BOOBOO, I'M SO GLAD YOU'VE STEPPED UP TO BE ML! 8D

And this year we should have an all-night write-in, somewhere someplace! I saw a fellow WriMo do it a year or two ago with a bunch of friends at Denny's and it was possibly the most hilarious writing event I've ever seen.

KICK OFF EVENT 8D <3 YEEE. I'm so stoked. SO STOKED.

Oof, wish there was something a bit closer to Mill Valley than Petaluma ^^ But maybe I can make it up there :)

Peets (Eastside) Petaluma write-ins would be great! I didn't live here last year, but this year that peets is only a short bike ride away from where I live ^_^

I'll also be sure to attend the library write-ins in Petaluma as well ^__^

Hi
Any word on a write-in at the Rohnert Park library? or anywhere else in Rohnert Park?

Hello fellow awesome people!

Looks like there will be plenty of write-ins around Sonoma county this year! This is very awesome. I was hoping there would be tons this year and I am not disappointed!

So just to clarify there will be write-ins at the Sebastopol library at an as-of-yet unscheduled time, and there will be write-ins at either Barns&Nobles or Borders in Santa Rosa.

Does anyone know of any other write-ins though? perhaps at the Santa Rosa JC?

Also if there is an all night write-in somewhere on the 31st LET ME KNOW! It'd be hella sweet to kick this year off with an all nighter. So yeah...

Super psyched,

~Odin

Hello everyone,

I just moved here to Petaluma from Japan so I'm knew to the whole NorCal scene, and to write-ins. I've never been to one but I'm excited to go to some this year and hopefully get to meet some of you fellow writers :)

As I'm still moving in, I probably won't be able to go to many write-ins out side of Petaluma, but I will try and I will most certainly attend the ones that are in Petaluma.

Looking forward to Nov!

Sorry -- the Rohnert Park library isn't taking part in the write-ins this year. Let the librarians know that you're interested, though!

The Sebastopol library should post it on the library's website calendar, but I didn't see it.
Since I work at the library, I'll follow up on this tomorrow and see if we can get that calendar updated. I know they will have a varied schedule.

Wow. Such action already! I apologize for not getting back on the site sooner, and will try to check more often. I’m actually trying to finish the final draft of Amoran (my first NaNo Novel) before NaNo 2009 begins so I can begin the search for an agent. See what participating in NaNoWriMo gets you? Big dreams, carpal tunnel and lots of other crazy people to write with.

First: Welcome to all of you -- newbies and returning wrimos. This promises to be a banner year for us!

Second: A huge thank you to Erin McGonigal for spearheading the effort to get more libraries involved this year. You are why ML’s sometimes weep with joy into the wee hours of the morning. Okay…maybe not that long, but weep with joy we do.

Write-ins: There have been a few mentions of write-ins at the JC. I encourage those of you attending the JC (and I’m not pointing a finger at Odin and Ethereel, honest! Ahem) to corral some of your fellow students and writers and plan one on campus. Make sure to post it in the forum if you want others to attend.

Thanks to two of you who have already mentioned that it might be difficult for you to attend write-ins outside of Petaluma, I’ll definitely revive the Peets Eastside Petaluma meetings. But speaking of traveling…

Carpools: As we all get to meet each other, perhaps we can arrange carpools so that those who are travel-impaired can attend events outside of bicycle range!

I think that’s it for now. I’m posting the Library events in a new thread so it’s easy for newcomers to the forum to locate.

Thanks everybody!

Hi Debbie! Thanks for donning those heavy ML boots this year. I know you'll wear them well! I'd love to join you if you decide to do the Petaluma Peets write-ins again on the weekends.

Looking forward to another exciting November!
See you in a few weeks...

Hi, I think an all nighter starting on the 31st would be a kick! If my husband approves we can do it at my house. I have a conference table and WiFi. We live right in downtown Santa Rosa so it's pretty central. We could have a pot luck of snacks and drinks and just go for it. Just an idea...

Thanks, Leslie for the kind words.

Ethereel, I figured you'd be up for it and already on top of it for a JC write-in. I guess you already noted the post by another JC'r about meeting at the JC library.

JeanGray, I think it's an excellent idea, and if you can offer your house for a midnight write-in on the 31st, that's great. I'm sure Odin would love it.

I've been toying with the idea of finding a large place for Sunday, daytime, on Nov 1st for an all-day write-in. Kind of like an open house -- come when you can, stay as long or as little as you want. Anybody up for that? Any suggestions as to where we might find a place that could accomodate a larger group of us?

I'm am so psyched.

more later....

Well, a big fat "duh" for me, Ethereel. I read the JC posts after I posted the reply below. Clearly, the JC write-ins are a happenin' thing already. Have fun with them!

Yup! Thank you for reminding me in the first place 8'D I might've forgotten!

AND WHOOOO ALL-NIGHTER WRITE-IN FTW. I have a Halloween party going on on the 31st, but I would totally be down for cruising over to Jeanine's place for the remainder of the evening and beyond for an awesome write-in.

Sorry to hear that Rohnert Park Library is not participating in a write-in this year. Maybe I can make one of the ones in Cotati.

Yes. Go to your Author Profile and click on Manage Subscriptions and Notifications. Ignore the error message at the top of the page (if you get one, I always do). Scroll down...the first check box should be empty. The second and third checkboxes are for receving emails from HQ and your region respectively. There are also lots of other options as you scroll down, including being notified by email every time someone posts to our forum.

Once you've selected to receive emails from our region, you'll get all future emails. If you'd like me to send you the two region emails I've sent out previously, I'd be happy to do so. You'll need to send me a NaNoMail with your email address. Click on my user name, then select "Send NaNoMail." I could also try to NaNoMail them to you, but I'm not sure if they'll fit.

Also, your post "double-posted" itself. It's not a big deal, but if you wouldn't mind deleting one when you have a chance, that would be great.

16 hours, 40 minutes and counting...

tick...tick...tick
