Hey all. Thought I would re-open this thread. :D
For any of you in the area, feel free to (re)introduce yourselves and say hello. Also, just a reminder, another place to leave messages that might be faster/more organized (new message announcements can be emailed straight to you if you want) is in the Google Groups over here:
http://groups.google.com/group/santa-monica-nanowrimo-2009
Other than that, I hope to see you all this month and get to know you and what you're writing. Heck, lets do a round right now. Who are all you strangers, and what is your '09 NaNo going to be?

I'm a Century City resident on my second year. I did some write-ins last year at Literati (where I hit 50,000 before a full crown). Ready to do it again.

Hello! I'm back again and glad to see some familiar names here already. I am in Santa Monica, and I always say I plan to make it to some writeouts and events, and then never do. So maybe I won't say that this year. Yet.
As for my 2009 Nano, I still have no clue, and that is not a good sign. After finishing something like 4 years in a row, I failed to finish in 2007 and 2008. But I am feeling good about this year, for whatever reason!
Welcome back everyone, and good luck!!

I was in the same boat as Mindless. I'm a Santa Monica resident, and while I intended to make it to some write-ins last year, I never made. I was at the initial get together this last Tuesday and got to meet a few people, so that's definitely an improvement over last year. Let's see if I can keep it up this time.

Hi all---
I hail from the borderlands between West LA & Westwood.
This is going to be my first attempt at NaNoWriMo. I'm still figuring out which direction I want to go in, but I'm excited at the prospect of having something this massive finished at the end of one short month.
I suppose I'd better get myself in gear and get those ideas flowing. :)

First timer here, hailing from the way-too-trendy jungle of West Hollywood.
I'm really excited to give this a shot, and I hope I can meet up with some interesting people at write-ins throughout November! Woo!

Hello fellow westside Angelinos!
I'm in Culver City, this will be my first official year with NaNoWriMo. I tried last year but gave up after a week, but this year I'm gonna finish, no doubt! I already have an idea...is it against the rules to start outlining?

Hi everybody! I'm a newbie to the LA area, but I'm sort of.. nearish to Venice? I think? I'm not actually quite sure where LMU (Loyola Marymount University) falls on the LA map, but that's where I am regardless!

Hello everyone,
Still in Santa Monica. Last year I got to some write ins in Echo Park, though it would be great not to have to go so far.
I have No Freaking Idea what I'm going to write about.
I can't wait to meet you all!

Hey All:
I'm in Santa Monica and this is my 3rd year (after a 3 year hiatus!) I have two REALLY rough drafts of novels from the two years I did NaNo ('04 and '05) and am in the process of re-writing my first NaNo novel. I am really excited and nervous to be starting this. There are a couple extra distractions this year (not the least of which is a 2 1/2 year old child -- so you can guess why I haven't done this in 2 years...)
So this should be...interesting. My first novel was a mystery and I'm thinking of writing a sequel. We shall see...
Good luck to everyone!

I'm on a farm an hour outside of Los Angeles, but I can make it to write-ins.
To introduce myself, I am thirteen years old today. I have participated three times and won twice. I'm writing fantasy. I'm in the google group but I can't get the messages. I need to figure that out.

Hi everyone! I'm kizie, and I'm a college student somewhere nearish Santa Monica. I think. Close enough, at least. More importantly, I would love to do write-ins. Is there any interest in doing some practice runs in October? I can do weekends and some evenings. Possibly some other times too but my schedule is pretty unpredictable at the best of times. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

kizie, a few of us have already met at Literati (West L.A., corner of Wilshire and Bundy) and some people would probably be interested in doing it again in the build-up to November. I always have short stories to work on, so I'm up for pre-NaNoWriMo "write-ins" of that sort.

LMU is just down the street from me! Welcome to the bluffs of Westchester! Venice is pretty far north, along Lincoln Blvd., and Santa Monica is even farther. But Marina Del Rey you can probably see from your dorm room (assuming you're a college student). South of us is LAX, and the Westchester Triangle area is on Manchester Blvd. (Who named this area after places in England is beyond me!)
If you want to meet up for some NaNoing let me know. Especially if it is at the Coffee Company...although I don't know if they have wi-fi. But they have great coffee! NaNo has internal e-mail (at least it did last year, I haven't checked yet for this year), so you can e-mail me.

Hey folks! Checking in from the Santa Monica canyon. Can't believe I'm doing this again for the 5th year in a row (for some reason my profile is showing all years of participation? weird) and I've yet to reach 50,000. !!!! Here's hoping that 2009 is magical for me. :)

I'm a Palms girl - very excited. This is my first attempt at NaNoWriMo. I did write a novel in THREE months through MediaBistro and I thought that was tough. This should be fun. Please tell me how to figure out where/when/how there will be writing meetups on the Westside. Can't wait!

This will be my 4th year doing NaNoWriMo. Last year was the only year I got to 50k though. I live a few blocks from the Literati Cafe. I've never been to a write-in before, is there any point going if you don't have a laptop and don't write longhand?

I'm in Playa del Rey and would love to get together in the Westchester area. Santa Monica and the South Bay are just too far to drive for write-ins, what with the lovely LA traffic.

Westchester's great. I'm wondering if maybe either the Playa Vista or Loyal library would be a good meeting place? or somewhere else if people want food/coffee?

I'm in Westchester, too, but never had any trouble making it to Venice and the Novel Cafe, where we all met up a few years ago.
I think, after four years of successes followed by an equal number taken off or failed attempts, I'm ready to try drafting another novel. Yeah, I'm old, but I can still type!
I hope to do a better job of keeping up with the forum and seeing where people are getting together. Some of my better efforts have come from writing with others, who I pretty much bug for answers to questions I get while writing. "Hey, this chili Brad is eating ... is it any good?"

Venice is easily accessible by bus, though, or at least the boardwalk is! I'm admittedly still getting used to the layout of the area, and don't know anything about public transit nor do I have a car, so I've been somewhat... erm, stuck on campus. But I'd definitely be down for some NaNoing-- none of my friends are doing it this year (at least none of my friends at college), so I'm afraid I'll end up unmotivated. D:

Hello, this is my first year attempting the challenge. I wanted to do it last year but I was planning a December wedding (mine) and that seemed to take priority. Now I'm a newlywed and ready to have a literary child. Eager to meet real people at Literati Cafe (I live in Westwood) or other places.

Hi everybody. This seems to be a year of "firsts" for me, now to include writing a novel in 30 effin' days!!! The working title of my novel is Seasons of Conflict. While I mostly write comedy these days, I will be attempting fantasy for the first time, so don't be surprised if a nymph starts cracking wise.

Yes. The good thing about LMU is you can easily access the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus on Lincoln to get places on the westside easily. And transfers are relatively cheap. The Culver City bus is pretty accessible too. It's across the street from the YMCA on Sepulveda and West 80th street. I live on 80th street, so when you exit LMU to the south (via Loyola Blvd.) and turn left at the LMU baseball field, and keep walking past the end of the campus, that's the street I live on, about halfway to the Vons. Or is it Ralphs? The chain grocery store students shop at, across the street from Orville Wright Jr. High.
If you take Loyola Blvd. south and cross Manchester you end up at the Westchester park, and the library is right there, so maybe we could meet up there, because I know they have computer access and the librarians would be supportive of NaNo. Or we could meet up at LMU. Or we could go to the shopping center on the corner of Manchester and Sepulveda because there is a Panera Bread Co. there and I can get a saucer of coffee the size of my head!
Don't let yourself be unmotivated if your friends aren't into NaNo. Last year I didn't know anyone who was doing it, and I pressed on because I REALLY wanted to hit 50,000 words...until mid-way through the month my friend Elise from my writing club showed up on the boards! She'd been doing it all along and I just hadn't known!

Hi Everyone. I live in the Westchester/ Playa Del Rey area too. This is my first time doing this. And I don't want to be too pushy too soon, but why don't the people on this side meet-up at the Cows End which is at the end of Washington Blvd right off the beach? That covers Westchester, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Marina del Rey, Venice, and even Mar Vista people.
I would love to meet you all.
