Hey Fredericksburg! It's that time of year again... (and yes, here comes my predictable intro speech - hope no one minds if I kick off this thread once more!)

... the time of short days, looooong nights, cold breezes and Pumpkin Spice Lattes (regular, decaf, or in my case, coffee-free). And let's not forget the most important thing: NANOWRIMO! Woohoo! I am so psyched. This is my seventh year. Seven whole years of doing this craziness. It's positively addicting. It's my favorite time of year. Thanksgiving be screwed, NaNo is way more exciting. :-D

Who's in it for '09? *raises hand*

My first NaNo, but I'm in! Looking forward to the Write-Ins especially. Pity the Central Park Starbucks doesn't have more room. I keep telling them they should buy out Quizno and expand! Tickers used to have a lot of seating, but I dunno if they're even still open. I understand last year the meets were mostly at Caribou Coffee? I only went in there once, but when they made my peppermint mocha with Creme de Menth flavor, I was violently ill and never went back.

Hi, it's so good to have you!!! Just wait, NaNo will be the most exciting experience of your life! Yes, most of our meetups tend to happen at Caribou. They have more space (a huge table, hurrah!) plus internet is free. Avoid the mint and try the pumpkin! I die for pumpkin anything... mmmmm. Unfortunately Tickers closed down this year. :-( I was so bummed. They had the free Friday night salsa lessons.

Bonjour. This'll be my second year to sign up, and hopefully first year of actually typing something. Hopefully. But what's this coffee business? Pah! We should meet at one of the many bars in the area with internet access! There's a whole slew of 'em now a days! Just a thought.

But they're so noisy! And besides, what if we get under-21s? Other than that, I'm fine with bars as opposed to coffee joints. I don't drink alcohol (mostly 'cause it all tastes rancid) but they serve coffee in bars too so I'm golden. :D

Hi! Didn't realize Fredericksburg would show up on "other"! I'm in Stafford. I've signed up many times and written a little a few times, but I'm teaching a little less time-consuming subject this year. However, I am taking two grad classes too, so we'll see. Just knowing you all are out there will help encourage me to do what I want to do!
Thanks

Stafford and Spotsy are more than welcome to join us I think! In fact, this thread used to be called Fredericksburg/Stafford/Spotsylvania for the longest time.

I just want to mention that some veteran NaNoers (myself included) have a standing "Writer's Night" at Caribou every Tuesday at 7pm. I'm sure it'll keep going through NaNo and become write-ins instead of just writerly gab (although commiserating is the best part if you ask me!) but if we want other days and venues thrown into the mix as well I am down for that! Just thought I'd throw it out there. ;-)

So who's planning their novels already? I was thinking of doing a sequel to last year's novel, but now I'm gripped by a whole new plot and thinking I may go with it instead. I'm not sure... the sequel has outlines and everything... but sometimes starting fresh can be invigorating....

I'm technically in Stafford but I'm really close to Fredericksburg.

This is my fourth time doing NaNo, and hopefully my second win. I think I'm the youngest one here so far... I'm 15 xD

Technically Spotsy, but meh, close enough.

This would be my second NaNo and I'm going two for two for a win!

I'm looking forward to making to at least one night at Caribou. Driven by it so many times but never actually gone in. So to have my first time be among fellow writers would be pretty much made of awesome!

Stafford gal, and on my third NaNo. I'd love to participate in the write-ins this year. Maybe that would help me stay motivated.

BellaWild,

I'm spending Oct. finishing up my outline for my novel. By nov. 1, I hope to have my outline done and ready to start.

Hi Everyone!!! Extremely new to the NaNoWriMo but also very excited to try this! I just started a new local writing group here in F'Burg and we meet every Wednesday at 7pm. One of my new members actually mentioned this to me as something that he does and I had never heard of it, but here I am !!! We will see how it goes. I have a husband who works out of town 4 days a week, leaving me home with no car and a 15 month old toddler, tons of dishes, laundry, and cooking to do, amidst my school work that I decided to pile on myself this semester, lol. I want to do this in order to give myself a sense of accomplishment. If I get even half of the novel written I will be ecstatic!

I very well may try and pop into Caribou from time to time when I can make it :)

Hey, stupid question, but is it Caribou in Central Park, or another one? I only know of the one in Central Park, so I'd hate to show up at the wrong one.

I figure it's Central Park, since that was the only one around here when I last checked Google Maps. Which was yesterday, so...

Hey BellaWild! Great to see you here again. :) I completely forgot that you all had started meeting on Tuesdays already, and I've got midterms to deal with tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to see you all next week, though. Maybe we can add a few more to our constant meet ups - I know that I've convinced one of my friends here at school to join in this year. I need to get her started and signed up on the website!

Only 25 days left! I can't wait!

And I have no idea what to write about yet....

ooo I'm from Spotsy/Fred and have been wanting to join some kind of writing group who will force me to write. I am a huge slacker and I've been wanting to be around some like-minded people as far as writing and such. Woot! It's good to know there are people around here that actually like to read and write.

I'm on the Spotsy side of CP. This will be my 7th NaNo and hopefully 7th win. I own my own business and I'm a wife, mother to two teenagers as well as an artist and photographer. I hope to be able to squeeze out some time for the write ins. Linda~

WoW 7th time around?! I am already in admiration! Tell me your secrets for finding time to write ?? Since I started Fredericksburg Writers Group last month I have forced myself to find more time to write, but with a toddler it's rather complicated sometimes.

When my kids were young I wrote while they napped, after they went to bed and I'd get up at least an hour before them. Now that they're 13 and 17 I write whenever and for at least three hours a day. I shoot for a 3k to 5k word count. Most of my writing time now comes during 9 am and 2 pm. The rest of my time is spent running my before and after school program for kids. And I don't write on weekends unless I am behind on my NaNo goal. I'd love to know more about your writing group.

Hey guys~ This will be my second year and hopefully my first win. My schedule's pretty wacky this year, but it actually should give me alternating Tuesdays free. :D

I would love to meet up with all of you guys! I may not be able to go a lot during October because I have college stuff, but I'll definitely try in November!

I am also in Westmoreland. Although I have never been able to accomplish my goals (finish a novella), I think about it every year and try ...pathetically I might add. I work and go to school full time, but I feel this is the year I will finish. I have a couple good ideas and look forward to November!!! woot! Good luck, everyone.
