Hi everyone,
How did it get to be October already, for a start? We're back, for another NaNo. I'm Elaine, I'm the ML for Perth :: North. I'll be making a post soon with The Plan for the month of November, to give you an idea of what the write-ins will be, and when we'll be getting together before it all starts.
For now, let's all say hi!
Hi!
I'm Elaine, I've been doing NaNo stubbornly for mumblemumble years. I love it.

Hi! I'm Kaitlyn, and this is my second NaNo.
I'm in Perth right now, but I'm heading down to Esperance for my teaching prac during Oct/Nov, so I've decided to set my novel there. To challenge myself (because, you know, lesson plans and full-time teaching isn't enough *sigh*), I've decided to do a non-magical story for once. I'll be writing a real-life romance. (Any tips on how to keep a non-fantasy plot going strong? Gulp).
Good luck everyone!

Ooh - shiny! Looks like they scrubbed the forums clean to make room for the upcoming influx of new posts.
I'm Leo, this'd be my third/fourth WriMo depending on how you count (does that one year where I didn't write one single word count?). I've been incredibly lazy and not written anything at all for the longest time so I am needing a swift kick in the pants to get back on track.
Although, I suppose I could only say "back on track" if I was actually on the tracks to begin with... <.<

Hiya :)
I am back this year but I have no idea on my plot yet and am starting to panic
I have a theme in mind, sci-fi and genetic engineering .. but no plot :O
I made the count last year though and that plot didn't come to me until 2 weeks before so there's hope yet ...
Hope to meet up with some of you again this year.

@ kaitlynfall - that's easy - conflict!
Figure out what your characters want and then deny it to them.
Boy + Girl going on a date? Have the car break down so one is late getting to the other.
Meeting at the pub? Have one lose their mobile / out of credit / have wrong number and desperately looking for the other one.
Everything running smoothly? Have an sms accidentally go to the wrong person making the recipient angry.
Still running smoothly? Have another character show up who is better looking / richer / has better car / etc and force one to work harder to catch the attention of the other.
Or even more generalistic - Have chapter eight end with a phone call giving really bad news - a death, relative hospitalised, a summons for past transgressions and so on.
I like to do this: assume the character(s) have just said "what could possibly go wrong" out loud - and then make that happen.
Stories about two people meeting who hit it off and have everything go perfectly are fun to live but boring to read about. Make 'em suffer! See what happened to this one chap called Romeo... :o)

Dr Neo
Haha, thanks! I've actually got a pretty big conflict - my protagonist is forced to live with a man she hates, but I'm worried that as they start to fall in love, things will slow down.
I suppose when the narrative starts to get boring, I'll have to set fire to something/someone ;)
Much appreciated!

Hi everyone,
Nice to see so many enthusiastic posts already from our region - we know that won't last once Nano gets underway!
I look forward to the plan Elaine and hope to be able to make a meet or two this year...
No idea what I'm writing about yet but expect an idea to percolate out over the next 4weeks....

This is the first year of me properly attempting NaNo, I tried a year or two back but unfortunately I completely forgot about it. Hopefully I'll do much better this year :)

Hallo there,
Sasha here. This'll be my... fourth? Nano. I think. I kept saying I wouldn't do this when I had exams, which is why I put off doing NaNo so much in the first place, but, well, apparently I can't keep away.
No ideas so far apart from a steampunk fanfic AU. We'll see how that turns out. Not that I've ever written steampunk before. Planning to spend October getting acquainted with said genre in order to write something somewhat decent. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Hi I'm Daniel.
I'm going to be writing... something. Im not sure what yet. It'll involve a Steampunky environment, a murder mystery and a supernatural twist. Or maybe it will be a psuedo-nonfiction piece about a world with several (created) species of humans. How that all fits together will be interesting to work out.
----------Im in the Eastern Suburbs but work in the city, so should be able to make write ins no problem.

Ooh - steampunky!
That's an awesome idea. If you want a quick and dirty look at what steampunk could potentially be and involve (although not stricktly steampunk) then I recommend having a quick squiz at a webcomic called "Girl Genius" by Studio Foglio.
Although I should warn you - very big archives so don't get stuck reading - you might not come out til January!

Hi all.....
I'm Stacey, 26, married with 3 kids under four, a
nd 2009 will mark my fifth nano and fourth win. I failed miserably last year due to life getting in the way. I plan to make up for it this year.
So my story this year is a Paranormal Fantasy set in an alternative universe in a Britain that could have been but wasn't in the 400-900AD. I have Steampunk elements along with 20th/21st Century things making there way into my novel... its a bit of a mix. Some things have slowed down and others have sped up when it comes to technology and such.
The plot itself involves my main character on a search more or less to find out who and what she is, and winds up getting herself into trouble and being the main cause of a war that errupts within my world. So far I'm not sure how it will be resolved.
And if the plot bunnies stop attacking me I might have a good story, thus far, Mordred and Morgan le Faye will at some point be entering my story.

Hi everyone. Good to see some familiar "faces" (or should that be names?!)
I'm Bec and so far I've never won Nano. I always start with the best intentions... don't we all? But this year I'm neither pregnant nor breastfeeding, so I figure I'm in with a fighting chance! Also I have a fairly good idea of what I'd like to write, so that's got to be a bonus too.
I've actually really been looking forward to it this year. I'm not sure if that makes me pathetic or awesomely motivated.
I'm also looking forward to FINALLY beating those pesky Wrimos from Dekalb, Illinois, should they dare take up the challenge of a word war again. Who's with me?

I do believe that the Dekalbians were starting the verbal (written?) slanging sparring just prior to the NaNo forums getting wiped, so we ought to to see them poking their heads in soonish. No doubt their cutting remarks and cruel put-downs will inspire us to all do 100K+ efforts this year.
Or something like that... :D

Ooh, isn't this exciting? I'm excited. This'll be my sixth year. I've got characters, settings, themes, motifs, a killer soundtrack, even a title ... no plot. That's okay.
Love seeing the old names/faces around!

Hi everyone! I've been a semi-regular at the Perth NaNo Write-Ins over the past few years and I'm sad to say I won't be around this year because I'm IN CANADA!
I'm still planning on doing NaNo though, and I'll keep an eye on the Perth forum.
Vancouver has a lot more people affiliated with the forum than Perth does. This should be... interesting.

I fully agree, October came up so fast! But I don't mind, it's my birthday on the 12th so that should keep my mind of the fast approaching literary marathon!
Anyway, call me Madeline. Apart from writing my interests are dancing (number 1) then card making and beading. And I have delved into a bit of scrapbooking which I would love to do more.
I doubt I will role up to any of the write-ins (I'm turning 15 on my birthday, so I'm guessing my mother will still be a little apprehensive about letting me go), but I hope you guys enjoy them.
Oh, and good luck on that 50,000! :-D

Hey, I'm Cara and this is my first year attempting NaNo!
I've gotta say, I've literally never written anything at this kind of length before, so this is a first timer all around for me.
I sort of got...persuaded into this? I got repeated messages of "sign up! sign up! sign up!" for at least two weeks before I caved and so...here I am! Still working on some kind of plot and trying to scrape together a muse out of the writers block I've had. It'll be interesting to see if I manage to make it this year, at any rate.
So, hi! I'm more like, end-of-the-trainline Perth, but hey - I'm definitely up for meet 'n' greets. Especially considering I'm going to be losing my social life as of November 1...

Huh? "losing my social life" - when did this happen?
With NaNo we usually end up with massively busy social lives with loads of interesting new people. It's just that ... they are all in our heads! :D
Welcome to NaNo, it's awesome fun. The hard part is telling your inner critic to keep quiet when your plots or settings aren't perfect and you keep wanting to go back and fix things up. But that's what December's for! November is for quantity - the quality comes later.

Hi everyone :)
Im in Mundaring at the moment, and I couldnt decide if thats North or South - technically its East but there is no group for that, so I joined both! :)
This is my 2nd year attempting NaNoWriMo. Last year I got a little busy so i wasnt able to complete my word count (aka. I failed miserably!), however Im having another crack at it this year! :)
Ive got a laptop this year as well, so that helps somewhat.
Cant wait for the write-ins and typing my fingers to the bone. I should mention, at the write ins, please feel free to tell me the stop talking - cos I tend to do that whenever Im in a coffee shop! hehehe
Looking forward to spending November with you all.

Hi!!!
I'm Jen and have only done (and completed) Nano once before, in Toronto, 2007
I have my fingers crossed that I'll manage to complete it again this year but it's really fun and is worthwhile just taking part - seriously. Not in an 'Oscar loser' kinda way.
I think I'm going to set my novel at home in Scotland so I'm looking forward to our meet-ups because I might need some moral support when I breakdown with home sickness.
Looking forward to it.

Hey all,
I'm Ness and I'm doing NaNo for the first time!
I'm really excited and hope I can pull it off. Look forward to hearing about all of your stories as we go on. Steampunky ones sound rad. I was thinking of trying something that but my knowledge of the genre is pretty much limited to girl genius so maybe not branching into that for the first time is a good idea.
I cant wait - I also got my mom doing it with me -she's never done anything like this before and it's awesome to see her come up with ideas and characters out of nowhere. Creating stories is just about the best thing ever.
Looking forward to november 1
