Particularly anyone in the Fells Point/Canton area?

I work in Columbia so I'm going to go to the write in there, I think Thursday nights, like I did last year but I wouldn't mind one some other night in the city. I was thinking Panera Bread might make for a nice writing environment, if anyone's interested?

I'm up in Hampden, but I'm still in the city! To which Panera Bread are you referring?

I will confess I have no idea where Hampden is (only been here a year and my knowledge is still pathetically limited). I was thinking of the one in Canton/Brewer's Hill, right along Boston Street near 95/895.

Hampden is in North Baltimore - 36th St. is our main drag. I'm also very close to JHU, if that helps you any. There's a cool coffee place up here called One World Cafe that we could also use for write-ins, if we felt so inclined.

Sadly not down Fells Point way, but in the city proper!

I'll second the vote for Panera on Boston Street... there's a fairly ample free lot and tons of free street parking there. It's in a little strip on the corner of Boston and Conkling St. There's a bank, 5 Guys, Dunkin Donuts, and a Pasta Mista as well.

I live in Canton/Brewer's Hill and work downtown so even though I guess I could hoof it to Columbia if I needed to, city write-ins would be super. Write ins I can walk to are even super-er.

Hopefully we'll have plenty of hosts and write-ins all over! As I live in Columbia (and was pregnant for one NaNo and taking care of infants for 2) I host here. We are central and easy off 95 or 29. But I go to write-ins elsewhere too, like the one at the IKEA in White Marsh.

I hope we get some good ones in Baltimore!

I believe there will be one at Ukazoo in Towson as well (already heard from the host for that one).

*waves at Lee* I will see you in Columbia for sure :D and I will plan on Ikea as well

Yeah, parking at Panera should never be a problem and if I remember correctly they have a pretty good setup as far as outlets are concerned.

I was thinking maybe Tuesday nights. What does everyone think?

I have class on Tuesday nights. :( Later in the week generally works better for me.

As for One World, parking is on the street along either side of University Pkwy. I walk there, but people who drive usually find a place.

Would Wednesdays work better? I can't do Thursdays through the weekend.

Wednesdays work....Mondays are a little better but Wednesday is definitely doable if that's best for most people.

Okay, so let's say Wednesdays from 7 - 10 at Panera on Boston Street. I won't be able to make it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - heading back home to Massachusetts that week.

I think I can get to Canton, though I perked up when someone mentioned JHU. That's really close to where I live. Right now I don't drive, so I can't get very far out of the city, so anything within the city is a good thing for me.

Canton certainly doesn't have to be the only write-in in the city :)

Hiya, I live in the Canton/Fells area.

The Daily Grind on themes street is also a pretty good spot, they have a bunch of tables in the back corner. can get a wee crowded though.

Can definitely make it to JHU or Hampden as well.

My roommate and I would really love to make it to some write ins this year, but the date and time that have been picked so far are a definite no for us. We're both college students and happen to have class at that time. Thursday evenings, as well as weekends, are times that I know work for me. I hope that there ends up being more Baltimore City meet-ups! I'm over in the Bolton Hill/Mt. Vernon area, so Hampden is definitely easy to get to and I do have have a car.

I live in Fells Point and will definatly come to the writeins at panera!!!!!!!

I am so excited to meet some fellow Baltimore writers.

^^, Yeah, I live right around there and as I was walking around last week I noticed the dailygrind was no longer the dailygrind which was sadddd.

As for ^, I am a student as well and am available all day Fridays (mostly). I wonder if we could set up one at the Panera in the Inner Harbor, or better yet Barnes and Noble which has starbucks. I go to school right around there. NaNomail me with some ideas.

Another vote for JHU/Hampden area write-ins! I live in Hampden, work in Charles Village, and get around mostly by public transit so something in north Baltimore would be ideal. Canton can seem like the other side of the world to us car-less folks :-P

Anyway, One World is a block from my office, so I approve even though they can be testy about big group/small order situations. As for other ideas...Evergreen on Cold Spring Lane? JHU Barnes and Noble Cafe at 33rd and St. Paul?

Thursdays or weekends would be my favorite -- what do you folks think?

This is my first NaNo attempt, and I would love to meet some of you. I can make it to One World, Panera, or Inner Harbor B & N, schedule permitting. I live in Ridgely's, but have a car, so location is not a huge issue. Anyone else in my neighborhood?

Panera Bread at Brewer's Hill is a good spot, so I'll be there as much as I can. I used to write at Kiss Cafe, which was huge and empty, but huge and empty killed the whole cafe off. Shame, it was a terrific place to sit and hang out.

I think Evergreen Cafe on Cold Spring would be pretty good, any day is fine with me.

Do people do these at libraries? The Enoch Pratt central branch in Mt. Vernon is huge. They might even have some space that could accommodate something like a write-in.

I just posted a new thread regarding an early Saturday morning writing for Northeast Baltimore city/county. I'm thinking either the White Marsh Panera or Grind On Cafe in the Hamilton area on Harford Rd between 8AM and 11AM. Panera is definitely open to groups if we get there early enough to stake out space, or if enough people are interested in meeting at Grind On, I'll check with them to make sure they're willing to let a group take over their place. Please post in my original thread (Early Saturday AM Baltimore City/Count Write-In) if you're interested so that I can get a good head count.

Thanks!

I live in Ridgely's too! Trying to think of good places nearby (although I can also drive/bus/light rail to other parts of the city)...there's the new-ish Potbelly on Pratt & Greene, or the Starbucks up by the law school (Baltimore & Eutaw I think).

If we wanted to do Fed Hill there's a Sam's Bagel's on Light St; Spoons on Cross St is tasty with good atmosphere but they get so busy; Thirsty Dog is decent if you get in early on a weeknight and sit away from the bar (and has the best pizza ever) but I don't know about outlet accessibility for laptops; and there's also an Enoch Pratt library in that area too. I've heard really great things about the Metropolitan Coffee House on Charles St (between Henrietta and Wheeling) but I haven't been so I don't know if it's writing-suitable.

In Hampden I'd suggest Common Ground or Soup's On, both on 36th. I could do the Evergreen or One World as well, and I'm sure I could find the Panera in Canton without too much trouble.

In Fells Point we could do Liquid Earth or Teavolve, both on Aliceanna. Liquid Earth's great for vegan/vegetarian (but might not be very laptop accessible long-term), and Teavolve has a huge selection of delicious tea (I don't find their newer location as cosy as the older one, but it is more spacious so a writing group wouldn't be edging out other customers) as well as food.

There's also Red Canoe up on Harford Road which is a nice bookstore/café, but they're not open in the evenings so they'd probably be better for a weekend morning session.

In...I guess Mount Vernon? there's City Café on Cathedral & Eager and Café Isis (or Al Pacino Café, or whatever it's calling itself thesedays) on Cathedral & Read. Both have good food/atmosphere and would accommodate a table of Wrimos I'm sure. I've heard good things about Iggies Pizza on Calvert St but I've never been so it might not be good for writing, and Red Emma's on St. Paul & Madison is supposed to be fantastic but again, never been so can't gauge writing atmosphere.

That's all I can think of right now—whew! But if anyone has more info about any of these places, please post it. :-)

It's good to see so many ideas for locations! It sounds like us in the city need a Thursday night function though, and something that is a little more accessible to the carless writers in North Baltimore. The B&N on 33rd would be ideal for me; I work just down the street.

Hey there! Here's another vote for a Hampden/JHU write-in as I'm a Homewood student.

I'll be making another attempt at NaNo this year, hopefully I can get it done, will probably be just as hard as last year was (things were so much easier senior year). But I look forward to meeting some fellow area writers! One World sounds like it'd be a great place to meet up.

Good luck and catch y'all soon, I hope!
