Since we seem to be getting more and more Pinoywrimos every year, I figured we might want to set up a regional newbie/mentor system like they have on the worldwide boards.
This would hopefully get our word counts up and help us make writing buddies in our areas---we could have more midweek and weekend write-ins for our mentor groups then.
-------
Newbies, please post the following info if you want an Ate / Kuya to help you through November. Don't post your email addresses!
Ates and kuyas, please browse and NaNoMail the people you would like to mentor.
1. Age
2. Location (specifics like "Ortigas area" or "Makati" or "Cebu City")
3. Genre
4. Short info about novel (including language)
5. What you're looking for in a mentor (e.g. if you want someone who can meet you in person or if offline meets are OK, if you want advice on writing style or just encouragement and someone to bug you to write more)
6. Non-NaNo interests
Good luck! I'm sure you can have more than one ate/kuya if you want, but it would be nice to let them know if you have several (and if you have several, please let other newbies have a chance too).

Age: 21

Short info about novel (including language):

What you're looking for in a mentor (e.g. if you want someone who can meet you in person or if offline meets are OK, if you want advice on writing style or just encouragement and someone to bug you to write more)

Oooh. Well, I don't actually live in Casimiro Village, just along the area, at St. Michael's Village (between Mother Earth and Camella...1, I think). If you know Cecile's, one side of it leads to BF and the other side leads to our subdivision.^^
If you'll have me~ sure! I'm not a professional/published writer though, mind you.^^;

I'm considered a newbie! 8D
I might be a bit late but...I'll post anyway :D
1. Age: 19 (am I too old to be mentored? :P
----------2. Location: Sampaloc, Manila--somewhere near UST
3. Genre: Romance/Fantasy
4. Short info about novel: The main plot I'll be using is actually something that was made years ago with my best friend (who suggested I use it for this year). Originally, it just had something to do with two people forcefully engaged to each other by their families...and with the girl ending up working in the guy's restaurant soon after the engagement. I somehow included magic into the mix too so...it's rather crazy now :P
5. What you're looking for in a mentor:
The most important thing that I'd ask for in a mentor is for him/her to be very persistent. In convincing me to keep on writing. I have a tendency to just do other stuff when I'm stuck at some point so...encouragement (even threatening) is much needed. Advice on writing style isn't as needed as encouragement but it would be helpful. And random ideas when I run out of them too, if that would be okay. Offline meetings are optional though they'd be nice. Most encouragement might have to be done through text messages or landline phone so...yeah.
6. Non-NaNo interests: Anime/manga, music, fanfiction, sleeping, photography, reading, food, and...science, I think. Yeah...:P
I've never written anything so long....
....so what?

3. Genre - still undecided

5. What you're looking for in a mentor (e.g. if you want someone who can meet you in person or if offline meets are OK, if you want advice on writing style or just encouragement and someone to bug you to write more) - Someone who's frank, easy to get along with and has a lot of patience mentoring a newbie.

1. Age 17, signed up last year, but then I got flooded by schoolwork and insecurities. I'm pretty sure that I'm ready this year. 8D
----------2. Location QC, specifically around Araneta Center.
3. Genre Low Fantasy, might get a bit absurdist, but mostly comic?
4. Short info about novel English, set in the [regular world], but with fantastic elements. I wanted to make it memoir-like, but I still haven't decided on that.
5. What you're looking for in a mentor Someone direct with their opinion, and doesn't mind giving a *nudge nudge, wink wink* minus the sexual innuendo, but plus the, "So, continuing the story right now, eh? Eh?" I'm okay with YM and SMS, but offline meet-ups would be great too. Pwede ako sa UP Diliman (free time ko this sem ay sa hapon), or sa Gateway.
6. Non-NaNo interests Drawing, reading (fantasy & comedy are my favorite genres), and sleeping. If it's not sunny, I like to walk around the campus, haha, but sometimes I just sit inside buildings. 8|

I can be your mentor. Mind you, I skipped NaNo last year but I've been consistent in joining and winning three years before that. XD And I'd also like to think that I'm fairly decent with Fantasy and comic work. I'm also a Creative Writing student in U.P. if that matters.
Just send a nanomail thing if you're interested. o.o I don't bite...without permission. XD

5. What you're looking for in a mentor: I just realized I needed someone to actually tell me to start writing to actually write. :3 I guess offline meets are okay as long as it fits my class sched. >.< Someone encouraging would be deeply appreciated because I hold all my writings in such low esteem. I'm a frustrated writer, obviously. :3

1. Age:20
2. Location: fairview, quezon city
3. Genre: ummm still undecided, i have 2 stories in mind. but i think it would be best for me to choose just one. the 1st one is action (there will be a lot of killings) with a bit of love story in it. the other is musical it's basically all about optimism and music and acting.
4. Short info about novel: if my nose won't bleed that much, i'd like i to be written in english.
the first one is about a man who needs to change his identity every 3 years. he's a cold-hearted assassin but he has a soft spot for his little bother whom he's not allowed to be with. he'll meet a young girl, and give her the love that he cant give to his little brother. after 9 yrs they'll meet again. the man will realize that he loves that little girl but not as a sister.
the other is about a young girl, raised by a drag queen, who aspires to be a theater actress. Though she's not really that talented, she still wants to pursue her dreams. the story's about her struggle to reach her dreams and defend her loved ones against homo phobics and judgmental people.
whichever sounds better.
5. What you're looking for in a mentor: someone whom i can chat with online and, if possible, meet in person. someone who help me with my grammar and ... someone who can be frank, brutally honest but still inspiring.
6. Non-NaNo interests. watching tv and movies ... hanging out with my friends ... that's basically it.

I'm a scared newbie.:D
1. Age - 18
2. Location - In Maragondon, Cavite in early days of November, but will soon be in Diliman, Quezon City.
3. Genre - Fantasy
4. Short info about novel (including language) - English, but written in British English because that's how I'm used to write. Not accurately Brit, but I have more knowledge with it than American.
Setting in the Philippines.
Faeries! or not.
I might not have plot at all since /i decided to join just this month so the plot is underdeveloped.
5. What you're looking for in a mentor (e.g. if you want someone who can meet you in person or if offline meets are OK, if you want advice on writing style or just encouragement and someone to bug you to write more) - Someone I can talk to online, but maybe offline occasionally. I want someone who can encourage me because I procrastinate a lot. And also, i haven't written anything like this for months, so I might need help.:D I've been afraid to write long stories/novels because of my previous experience with Mary Sues/Gary Stus.
But since I'm taking creative writing this semester, it might make my willing mentor's life easier.
6. Non-NaNo interests - Architecture and Design, Harry Potter, Drawing, Reading.
