Hi all you Wrimos in the Royal City!

I'm participating again this year -- although I'm no longer in Guelph. I expect JCScott and others will be organizing Guelph events this year, and I'm looking for someone (or multiple someones) to take over administration of the Guelph Wrimos blog so you folks will still have that resource available to you.

If you're interested in administering the blog, please let me know. (If you're interested in trying but don't know how to do it, I can train you if you contact me soon enough.)

Hey there, Guelphites!

I can't believe it's October already - back for another year! As Laura said, I'll probably be trying to organize some write-ins and such in Guelph this year. We had some pretty good turnouts last year, and some very productive sessions, so I'll hope to see some of you there.

This will be my ninth NaNo, and I'll be getting back to my roots this year by picking my plot off a random prompt generator on the evening of the 31st, and seeing where that takes me. In the past few years I've done everything from writing multiple stories to finishing old ones, and in the process I guess I kind of feel like I've lost the point of what NaNo is supposed to be-- spontaneous, uncritical creativity. So this year, by god, I will start from nothing and I will build a novel, and if in the end I need to resort to ninjas-- so be it. :D

So, I'm in Acton... which leaves me smack dab in the middle of everything. I used to live in Brampton, many moons ago, where I wrote all of my other Nano novels. I have taken two years off and I am now thinking of coming back. I know many of the Toronto NaNo people as I used to hang with them, but perhaps the Guelph crew is closer to home for me now?

I'm still not convinced I will write. We will have to see... good luck to all!

Yay Guelph. I miss it.

I won't be in the city until the 17th thanks to my epic fail of a decision to move cross country in the middle of my favourite month. I shall lurk the forum (and the blog?) though! And hopefully pop in to some write-ins once I am situated in the area.

Happy writing, pretties :D

Just a quick shout-out: anyone in Guelph interested in attending the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge kick-off party? I was considering going, so if someone needed a ride....

Your stuck in the same place I am then, but considering I am on the boarder between our quiant and boring town and Erin, which does not seem to be any bigger than the lovely Acton, Guelph is the closest thing to me out of everything else. This is my first Nano, and I'm looking forward to seeing what in the world I come up with, along with everyone else. Good luck all!

Hello All,

I will be back again trying NaNo, this will be my sixth year. i don't think I'll be able to be as active as I was last year, I almost decided not to do NaNo because of the mess things are in right now, but wanted to keep my tradition going.

I hope to make it out to a few meet up and as a Guelph writer and someone who grew up in Acton I would gladly welcome anyone from Acton or the surrounding area to any Guelph event.

Hi bethankyla!

Welcome to NaNo! I'm sure you'll have a great time.

How much you write a day will depend entirely on yourself - how fast you type, how well the ideas are flowing, how long you have before running off to chores x, y and z. Etc, etc. Ideally, you should aim for at least 1667 words a day, to hit the grand total of 50k on the 30th.

Last year, the Guelph crew got together on Sunday afternoons for coffee and writing at Williams. Hopefully this year we'll be able to do something similar, since I at least found it a big help.

Hi, long time thinking about it, first time participating. oh god so scared D:

Just popping in to say 'hello' and cheering on the rest of the writers on up in the Royal City. Dunno if I'll ever step out for a gathering, but I wanted to show a little Guelph support.

Good luck, everyone!

Hello back!

Don't be scared-- NaNo is a fun and frantic and entirely addictive experience, once which there is no going back from... okay, so maybe be a little bit scared. ;D Seriously, though, welcome to the fold, and I hope you enjoy yourself! Please do come out to the write-ins if we end up holding any, they can be a great encouragement.

Haha, thanks.

I even managed to convert a very good friend of mine to take a stab at it this year with me, so we'll lean on each other.

My fiance's US friends also are big into NaNo, and I've been invited to Buffalo write-ins. Cross border writers unite!

Hi all,

Just joined and this is my first year doing Nanowrimo. I'm terribly excited as this seems tailor-made for me. I'm definitely the guy who has a jumble of thoughts and the "one day I'll write them down" attitude. I guess that day is around the corner now.

Hope to talk to you all so we can commiserate and congratulate.

Hi everyone!

My name is Cindy. Even though it says I joined August 2008 this is my first actual NaNo. I didn't get very far last year because life kind of took over. I'm hoping to do much better this year. I've been practicing on an older manuscript that I never finished by writing every day on that. I use a random number generator to tell me how many words I need to write and up the minimum every week to get me ready for NaNo. I can't wait to start my NaNo book!

I live in Milton but I'm moving to Guelph. I'm in Guelph five nights a week (Thursday to Monday). I run a writing group in Guelph. And actually at least two of the members are students at the university.

I hope to see some of you at the events.

Hi All Guelph Wrimos,

So glad to be back. This is my 6th year participating. I thought about working on a work in progress, but decided to go for it and try something completely new. Can't wait to start.

Hope to meet you all.

Hello fellow Guelphites!

I'm Laura and this is the fifth year I've spent a month deciding whether or not to sign up, the second year I've signed up but the first year I'm actually making the commitment to participating. I figure getting involved with a group will encourage me not to drop out half way through!

It was difficult selecting a region but since I do go to the university here and thus am in Guelph 8 months of the year, well, this seemed like a logical choice! This is my first year braving an attempt so I'm really in over my head, particularly since I'm not 100% set on where my story will be going. Go with the flow?

Did you guys meet at the Williams in the plaza at Stone and Edinburgh? I'd be game for that. :)

This is my...I'm not even sure which time attempting NaNo, but hopefully since this year I don't have a handful of essays I've procrastinated on that are due in November, I'll actually be able to finish. Unfortunately, I know I won't be able to get out to many (or any) Sunday write-ins because the weekends are the only real time I get to spend with my hubby, and he's not entirely aware of how much I'll be writing this month, I am up for meetings during the week as long as I'm not working. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out to at least one event.

Good luck writing, everyone!

rook - yep, that's the Williams in question. It worked pretty well for us last year, so perhaps we can make a go of it again!

And bah, knowing where your story is going is overrated. ;) Let your characters surprise you, it's more fun that way.

This is it, Guelphites-- we're down to the wire, less than twelve hours to go. Whether you intend to start at midnight tonight or tomorrow morning, best of luck jumping off the start line!

I like that. :)

And oh god. It's been underway for 11 hours and I'm already behind. Darn Halloween interference! 816 words. YAY. -_- My other buddies have thousands already.

Hopefully we can get something like this organized!

re: Sunday write-ins at Williams!

I'm going to be out of town this coming weekend (the 7/8th) otherwise I'd try to organize something... if someone else would like to take point in my absence and set something up, please do. i can tell you that we typically needed to bring along a power bar for all the laptops. We only had trouble getting a table once, and then we sat at the little bar instead; depending on what time everyone would prefer to meet, perhaps someone would be kind enough to show up a bit early and stake a claim for the others.

Hope your first day went well! Keep on writing. :D

Hey there, I'm Beth and this is my...fifth? sixth? year of nano. :D This year, I'm really hoping to make it to the write-ins (due to my work schedule last year, sundays didn't work for me). I'll defs be checking back in here to garner all the details, and see how other people are doing! :3

Hi Guelph Wrimos,
I'm not sure if I'm posting this correctly but here goes. So this is my third Nano although the first two were a couple of years ago when I had more time!! I've never been to a write in or event but am game to attend this year.
Good luck on day 3

Hey, I don't know if anyone here is interested or available, but I'm planning on being at Williams this week between approximately 3 and 5 pm (approximately because that will be my break from work, so can't guarantee when I'll make it over there). Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone is interested in joining me. I'll most likely be writing by hand, and will take my pinkish-purple stuffed platypus to set on the table to identify me with since I've never been to a write in before.

Hi, everyone!

I had no idea so many people did this in Guelph! This is my first official nanowrimo year, and I doubt that I'll be able to finish. I go to the university, and I have two research papers, and two midterms this month. :( But, I'll try to at least make 25, 000 words!

DigiChar - just a thought, I have known more than one person who included their term papers into their novels somehow, as something their characters wrote or read. Hey, if you write it in November, it's fair play! ;)

And trust me, if a paper on predacious diving beetles can be successfully written into a mystery-romance novel, anything is possible.
