We need to decide on a time and a place for the kickoff party. Miseri's house is, I believe, no longer available. Mine is, provided I manage to clean it up in time (no small task, since I'm an obsessive-compulsive hoarder).
The usual time to have the kickoff party is on a weekend late-afternoon and evening just before November. So the usual time becomes October 31. But this is Halloween, which presents problems of its own -- I'd be handing out treats all evening instead of participating. So perhaps it should be Friday, in which people may have trouble getting off work early, or Sunday, when we've already started writing, and getting 2000 words down by party time could be the first challenge.
My preference (at the moment) is for Sunday, November 1. But I'll listen to your advice before making up my mind.

By the way, in case it influences planning, my place is a few blocks from the Villa Maria metro station.

November 1st would be my preference as well, and 50K words of writing pressure be damned.

I also like Sunday the 1st. Gives me enough time to sleep in after Halloween, get a good start on the writing, and catch a bus into town! Weekdays are a lot harder to manage because I live so far away, but I'll do my best if that's what works for the majority.
Also, leftover Halloween candy makes an excellent cheap party snack!

It's looking more and more as if the party will be at my place 4133 Marcil, a few blocks from the Villa Maria metro station, late afternoon and early evening, on November 1. A star sticker (I wish it could be a gold star, but have you tried buying gold stars recently?) for anyone who has already written 2000 words by the time they arrive at the party!

Will it also be a Hallowe'en costume party?

Nov. 1 is after Halloween, so costumes would be late too.

It never has been a costume party (as far as I remember). But if you want to wear a costume, feel free. Maybe you'll start a new tradition!

I'll see if I can find a babysitter. Hope I can make it!

All of this reminds me that I still don't have a costume for Halloween. My kids will revolt if I don't find something soon.

Should guests arrive with particular foodstuffs or beverages or such in hand?
I completed this wild month of many words in 2003, tossed around a few ideas for a few years and it is time to write and complete again, at long last.
And this would be my very first kick-off party, seems to me in years past they've been held on Saturdays when I've been working.

It will be potluck. Bring some of what you'd like to see at the party. If no one brings food, we can go hungry.
I'll be providing a few cases of beer, and some other drinks, because they're really heavy, I live on-site, and I won't have to drag them through the metro.
The parties have often been held on Saturdays -- it's a matter of how Halloween and the start-of-the month fall on weekdays. Once before it was on Halloween, but in an area without trick-or-treaters. Here we usually get about 400 children showing up on Halloween, and it would be a big distraction.
I guess it's time for a formal post about the actual party. I'll start a new thread for it.

Hello,
it will be my first Nano.
I wonder in what the party will be exactly? Fun? Writing?
I'll be sure glad to have sticker ;) and meet ML and other people.
Sunday will be fine, cause in Halloween I have three little monsters...

Probably talking about what we're going to do and how we're going to do it. That's what usually happens. And perhaps, talking about what we've already managed to do on the first day.
