I'm a student at NCSU and while I'm not opposed to driving out for write-ins (and probably will), is there anyone in the area who'd like to schedule some write-ins or just general meetups (perhaps one in October just to get to know each other and talk about how we've been preparing)? The Cup A Joe at Mission Valley would probably be a most excellent place, in my humble opinion, but I'm open to other suggestions!

By the way, for those who didn't see my post in the first thread, I'm Caitlin. I've made halfhearted stabs at NaNo in past years but this year I am 100% serious about it. I've already been doing word sprints with a friend (it's like training for the English major Olympics!) and we're hella excited. I want to find more people in the area who are similarly excited. :D

I think Rai Yan has some write-ins scheduled at the Cup A Joe in the Mission Valley shopping center - that's the one on Avent Ferry, yeah? On Saturdays. It's been awhile since I worked at NCSU and my knowledge of the streets has since evaporated.

Granted the Sat write-ins doesn't mean you can't have more write-ins there, Sunday through Friday :) or even on Saturday at a different time. Or somewhere else. Help folks explore that area of Raleigh - especially the folks who are new in town, don't know the NCSU area or who have forgotten all the nifty places that are over there.

Find a place and time that work for you. Tell Ryan about it and he'll put it on the calendar. He's cool like that.

Somehow I completely missed that when I excitedly added the calendar this morning. Good LORD, I'm ridiculous and a tad bit embarrassed now.

I'll definitely message Ryan about other days - but I hope that this forum could be a good place to plan other locations with people.

Most definitely. It's a good idea, and I really recommend it. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

Sorry about the stupid question but how do you add the calendar? I am also in the NC State area. This will be my first years participating in Nanowrimo and I am very excited.

Awesome, dude, welcome! There's a separate thread for the calendar that has the link to it. You can add that link to your bookmarks and keep track of when write-ins are. It'll be swell.

Thanks for the help. I am really excited. Not just to participate in the event but to meet fellow writers around the area. I just moved here from Greensboro from school and do not know many people yet. Especially the sit in coffee shop and write or read type of people that I do enjoy!

Well good sir, then you are in good company. Myself and another friend who goes to school in the area are going to be eagerly hunting down other writers in the area.

I'm thinking some of us could even get together pre-NaNo (I know, a little late notice, but maybe?) to get to know each other. Cup A Joe is always a good place. :)

Which one? Mission Valley or the one on Hillsborough?

OK, the mission valley write-in is the closest one to me, but..... I have a kid in college. And kids who have graduated. Will you-all be horrified if this old lady shows up to write?

I am not the one planning the meet up but I know that I am happy to meet any and all writers.

Thanks for that. :o) I'll probably drop in, and if nobody growls, I will stay for a while. I've done this on my own in the past, and I know after a while the walls start closing in.

Horrified? Not at all!

I know that on Rai Yan's Google Calendar there's weekly Mission Valley Cup A Joe write-ins planned. There's also weekly Royal Bean write-ins which is just down the street across from Meredith College. I'm planning on being at the Royal Bean write-ins and possibly the CAJ ones (it all depends on my work schedule, unfortunately).

The calendar is here, by the way: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=raleighml%40gmail.com&ctz=Ameri... :)

However, if anyone ever wants to meet up and write outside of the planned times, I'm open to figuring something out. I know for a fact that it's going to be the support of others that will get me through the month. Feel free to message me!

Also, I hope to see you guys at the Gypsy's write-in at midnight this Saturday! I'm probably going to be tired as all hell (yay Halloween weekend) but I'm looking forward to meeting all the other writers in the area.

After some thought I've been formulating the idea of any and all NaNo-ing students meeting at DH Hill, perhaps on Thursday nights at 7? I think that it'd be a good idea, personally, but want some input too.

I might be able to make the D.H. Hill meet tonight, I've actually been doing most of my writing there during afternoons, where are we meeting in the actual building?

Sorry for the last-minute-ish response - I'll be at the top of the stairs by the weird chairs at main circulation, with a white Macbook that has a WKNC sticker and a red Asian-style shirt. We can relocate from there.

Hello all,

I will be at the Cup-A-Joe write-in this Saturday evening. I went to the Royal Bean meetup, but between my quiet nature and the determined typing of all present, I resigned myself to quietly sketching and outlining in a corner. I've just moved back to the area after an absence to find that most of my friends have moved elsewhere, so I'm anxious to meet some new folks, especially those who count themselves among the literati. I know this is a writing contest and all, but I wouldn't mind a change in pace and a little conversation too!

Speaking of which, I will probably go on numerous walks through Umstead Park during the course of the month to clear my head. I always find a walk in the woods to stir the Muse and would be happy for anyone to join me on these outings. I'm glad to talk about our respective projects or, if you'd prefer, anything but NaNo. If anyone's interested let me know.

Also, I know coffee is the drink of the month, but I'm also not opposed to meeting a group for a good beer or mead or what have you if there are any who partake in fine beverages...

Evan

Just to let people know we are indeed meeting tonight if you want to drop by. We are the two lovely ladies sitting in the red chairs in front of the circulation desk.

7pm-10pm, Cup A Joe on Avent Ferry.

It's on the calendar

There's also a write-in that morning (9-2) in North(ish) Raleigh. Between Lead Mine & Old Lead Mine off of Forum Drive

Yep. Cleared out my schedule just so I could make that work. There will be a sign and everything. The sign could use some tweakage, but hopefully you'll see it.

I am here in the CupAJoe, and I see nothing indicating writingness going on. Perhaps I am just on the wrong side of the building? (yes, Im in Avent Ferry)
