We're putting together a book sale to benefit the Office of Letters and Light. The idea is to sell books ($1.00 for hardbacks, $.50 for paperbacks) and then split the profits between our local group and the awesome authorly peeps at the Office of Letters & Light. Thursday evenings (4-6) at Bek's. Let me know if you'd like to donate books or work the booth. And tell everyone you know to stop by and browse our selections!

Just a quick comment about this; I'll say up front, great idea for a fundraiser. However... I know some of the folks who help run things at Beks, and from what I gathered, last Thursday everyone involved was a little put out and more than a little surprised when what they'd assumed was a garden variety lunch reservation turned out to be a used book sale. Now,. the Beks folks are good people and I'm sure they'd be glad to help out, but I know from experience that the last thing restaurant staff like is major surprises. Let's just try to keep the lines of communication open and make things clear up front. :-)

Thanks,
-Elias

Interesting. I went in personally about a week and a half before the first event and spoke with the owner about doing a book sale there on Thursdays during November. I didn't make a reservation - I asked for permission to hold a book sale. He said we were welcome to set up a table outside, but if it was chilly outside, we were welcome to put the books on one of the tables up front. Who were the folks at Bek's that was surprised at this? I'd like to make it right if there is a misunderstanding.

I get the impression it was mostly a matter of some folks not being clear on quantity, timing and such. You'd probably do best to talk to them and see what needs to be resolved: I'm sure they'd be happy to work with you :-)
