Hey everyone, are we going to start a fundraising team this year? The OLL has a nifty function where you can set up a sponsorship team, so each member has their own page that can be donated to, as well as the team total.

Especially with the economy the way it is, I'm sure the OLL could use a little bit more effort this year from all of us to get the funds flowing.

Apparently, it takes $10 just to run the servers for three hours! Crazy.

Here's a link to the setup, btw:

If no one's interested, I'll just set up an individual page, but I was curious to see if we wanted to do a regional group first, before I did.

Thanks for bringing this up, Ami. I love it when folks want to donate to NaNoWriMo.

Dana and I have some fundraising plans, and you'll hear more about that soon. (And more about our schedule of events and other exciting information). We've been waiting to send out a regional email, and have only gotten the go-ahead from HQ to do that this afternoon. A technical glitch appeared to have been causing multiple instances of the ML messages to land in the recipients in boxes, and we've been waiting until they traced that problem down.

I must take my granddaughter to her piano lesson now, but once I get home from that, I'll get some information posted. Promise.

Yay!

Also, now that I've read the fundraising goals for the year, I must be honest--my intentions are no longer 100% pure. I want year-round NaNo Camp in '11. Must. Raise. Money. ;D

Yes, great idea! After checking, I created a team for us - SpokaNaNo Gypsy Writers - that you all can join. Follow Ami's link and the directions there for joining a team. Good luck everyone!

Are we able to affiliate with the team if we've already created our personal page? I signed up days after NaNo website was back up.

There are only 3 people showing on the Spokane Gypsy Writers "Team" on Gifttool. Does anybody else have a donation page that didn't link to the group? It just seems so few.

I'll leave my GiftTool page up in case it gathers some donations from sources who can't get money to me directly, but HQ just announced the Donation Derby, which does not tally the funds gathered through GiftTool.

Spokane has been assigned to the Siberian Tigers League (League 2). You can find the Donation Derby results under the Fun Stuff menu: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/contest/donation_derby

NaNo HQ wrote:
Check out the new menu item under Fun Stuff. It’s the Donation Derby, a list of all NaNo regions and their contributions to the Office of Letters and Light.

Though there’s no way to make the contest perfect, we want to be as fair as possible. ... We divided the regions into leagues based on their number of homed, active participants in 2008. But since size can vary a lot from one year to the next, we’re also going to compare last year’s average donation to this year’s.

The winner in each league will be the region with the highest average increase in donations between last year and this year. Brand-new regions and existing regions that had no donations last year will be competing in the same league.

Our contest will close at midnight on November 30th, and winners will be announced as close to December 4th as possible.

Each winning region will receive these lovely prizes:
· A personalized web badge to decorate blogs and regional websites
· A personal email from Chris
· Their region name on a plaque/trophy at HQ, plus photographic evidence that they’re enshrined in the HQ hall of fame
· Public acknowledgement on the site

The fine print
Since region size is the number of active+homed participants, this number (and the data you’ll see) will change on November 1st when Wrimos can start reporting word count, and it will fluctuate through the month as more participants home with your region, or (sadly) leave your region and home elsewhere.

The Donation Derby can only show donations made directly to OLL through the donation station (or by check). We can’t include donations made through GiftTool, since those donations are not routed directly through OLL.

If no region in a league exceeds last year’s average, the winner will be the region that comes closest to matching last year’s average. In case of a tie, the winner will be the region with the highest total donation for the current year.

Thanks for posting that... I read it last night but apparently skipped over the last few paragraphs.
