Hey everyone and welcome to the eleventh year NaNoWriMo! Now I know up in the north is a bit secluded but there's no reason NaNo can't make it's way up to your doorsteps, living rooms, chaotic minds and coffee shops.
My name is Sam and I live half time in Fort Providence, NWT and St. John's, NL. This November I'll be in Newfoundland so I won't be as much a part of the Northern NaNos but I figured I'd hop along over and get things rolling as best I could.
This will be my *counts on fingers* fifth NaNo so I know all about the process and can give any advice anyone needs.
So yeah, excuse me for being bad at these things but welcome to NaNo '09!
Feel free to post on the forums to your hearts content (As long as you're following posting rules which consist mainly of "no spamming/flaming") and get to know each other. You can ask anyone on here any questions about NaNo, the process, you can have chats, whatever you want. Any questions you may have about the group, the process, whatever, you can email me on here, or send it to Majoronmage@hotmail.com.
Before I go, I have two pieces of advice to give you.
The first, don't hold onto your sanity too hard, it's inevitable that you'll lose it in NaNo.
The second, have fun in your own personal thirty days of literary abandon!
:)

Hello! *ello... llo... lo.... o...*
Awfully quiet in here today! I can't be the only NaNoer in the hinterlands. I'm Drew, former marathoner, current rugby player and brave first year teacher at a school so small that I have 11 kids in three grades. I have 2.5 goats, 2 cats, a hyperactive shepard mix, a loaner llama and one sweetheart. Sadly, the sweetheart is 5 hours away...
Also, I have no problem hanging around in here talking to myself.

You're not alone Drew! I'm glad that someone else is in this thread besides little old me! There's another member too, but they tend not to post. I receive NaNoMails though I'm not sure why they don't simply post here; it would make the forum more interesting.
Anyways, welcome to NaNoWriMo!

Hi, here's another backwoods writer :-) Last year, there was so much good talk on CBC radio about NaNoWriMo that after 2 weeks of listening to it, I couldn't resist it any longer and started writing...got bogged down around 23,000 words though (and did it by hand because we live off-grid - but have a less power-guzzling netbook now!). So I'm kinda cheating...I'll continue where I left off last winter. I'm a veeery slooow writer and this way I figure there's at least the chance to get the thing done now!!!
We're out in the bush, my partner is gone for a while, so I really have no excuses....

Thanks for the welcome! I've done it twice before, but took last year off because it was my last year at university. Technically, I'm in Manitoba, but so far into the bush that it's really elsewhere. Really really elsewhere.

Nice to see everyone here! Now that there's three of us, we technically classify as a party! xD
A party eh? Who's up for slaying some dragons?

The other Northerners will probably shuffle in here about a week into November, as a good Northerner should. We are actually setting a scary example of most Southern-like effectiveness and punctuality ;-)

:P That's great. I'm glad this corner of the forums is finally starting to fill out. Have any of you started to think about what you're going to be writing come this November?

Hello 8D
I'm Robyn and this is my second year participating in NaNo, though last years one seemed to be bad timing for me I hope to finish this years novel. I'm an art student and live up in the gateway to the yukon~
I have two lazy tubby cats who keep my feet warm in the winter and no other animals XD
I can't quite remember how I found out about NaNoWriMo though I do remember it was too late into the month to start when I had heard about it so I eagerly awaited the next year.
couldn't think of anything else to say

Hi All,
I'm in the Yukon and had a blast doing this last year. Unfortunately, this year my goal is to get all the almost done short stories finished their final revisions and out the door to....somewhere I hope. And then maybe I'll pick up last years novel and begin the ardourous task of revising and it needs major, major work to become something I would even want to show anyone.
However, I'll still get the posts and wish you all luck in your novelling...it's very cool once you hit the turning point and the novel picks up momentum and snowballs.
Good Luck!

Hello - my name is Carolyn and I live in Iqaluit Nunavut. I've done this once before and I'm still working on editing that novel, but I looked at my schedule for November and thought, what the hell - do it again!
I have 2 labs, 5 cats, 3 birds, 2 sugar gliders and 1 lizard. Did I mention the three kids? It's a busy household but I'm determined so let's hope I can keep it going!!
Cheers,
Carolyn

Your user name seems familiar. Did we have the only NWT write in together last year? I'm in Onterible for this year's Nanowrimo but I am in the place where I did my first Nanowrimo. This will (I say this as I mentally cross my fingers) be my fourth Nanowrimo.
So far I am a bit behind. Last night I finally thought up a reasonable story line but as usual, I have no conclusion. Since I cannot be up home in person, if anyone wants to do some online plotting or an online version of a write in, please please please send me a nano-mail.
Cheers!
Edit: Wow, for some reason I did not see all the replies before; only the top post. I love the comment about northerner's coming in late. As one of my favourite elders would say, "The feast is at 5pm. 7pm Indian time." In other words, northern life is a leisurely pace. Why rush?

Hello! I am done my second NaNo! Woot. Okay, I finished in 23 days - In October. I was on leave and realized that October worked better for me, so I did NaNo last month. This month I'm doing the initial read-through and making my notes for changes. I've learned that my book will require at least forty more pages to clean up some plot holes. I've also gotta decide if a character dies or if the babies were even born and if they were can they still fly?
Last year was the first year for me. I completed "Paige in Time" and now I've got some readers. The initial response has been quite positive - and not in the "wow, that was a great book - I didn't finish it, but" type statements either. People enjoyed it. I've one more final edit for that one and I will send off to publishers. Fingers crossed, wish me luck, all that...we'll see about "Justin Time."
I hope everyone is writing up a whicked whinter storm - Whitehorse has snow already and I'm sure it will be around for the long haul.
If anyone is getting together for a bit of a write in at say Baked, Star Bucks, or the Chocolate Claim, reply with time and date!

Is there even a Starbucks in the NWT? I know there's a Tim Hortons in Yellowknife.

Nope, don't think there is a starbucks anywhere in NWT. Welcome to the forums everyone! You can discuss your novels in the other thread if you'd like! :)

I think Lisa was referring to the Starbucks in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory - where I live :)
Although it's great to see so many NWT participants as last year I think there were only two.
Lisa, good luck on your newest venture with "Paige in Time." I'm glad it worked out so well. I know the parts of your plot you told me about last year were pretty neat, unique and interesting.
As for a write-in downtown at Starbucks or Baked, gladly...although I will have different stuff I'm working on. It would be a good excuse to sit my butt down and actually accomplish what I want to this month. My goal...to finish up all my short stories (re-write and revise) and send them out - and see what the word count for them ends up as on the cool nano bar. HA! It's a great goal! Getting it done is another thing - especially now that I'm doing contract work and my time is more flexible...therefore easier to put my own writing off and off and off to tomorrow :(
Oh well, let me know if you want to meet up and have a write-in either here or nano mail me. I have too much on my plate this year to do any of the organizing so...if you want a write-in you'll have to organize it, but I will come! Saturday am's work best for me right now...except this Saturday...I'll be in Haines taking pictures of Eagles :)

I'd love to visit the Yukon (or better yet, live there) some day.
There were two of us in all of the NWT last year and we still managed a write in. By a crazy stroke of good fortune, the Town flew me into the city for a course and we were able to meet up.

The land of plenty...Whitehorse has 2 Starbucks! hehehe...
A write in - I am currently sifting through "Justin Time" and realizing that there are an overwhelming amount of edits to make! I have to move things from the beginning to the end and add a character and kill off another one...sort of, he's just kidnapped, but everyone suspects he is dead - hard to prove without a body though.
About a write in? Let's try for one day after work on a Tuesday or Thursday at Baked? Next week?
Have fun in Haines!

I will do :)
Write - in....hmmm, depends on when you get off work.
I'm busy between 3 and 5 on Tuesdays running my son around and I work from 3:30 - 5:30 on Thursday.
Maybe Wednesday or Monday?? What think you?

I love the titles of those time novels. It's clever and amusing titles like that which make me want to read the book.
I'm sorely tempted to move to the Yukon. Sadly I am not as adventurous as I wish I was. I would want to have a job to move to. Having a place lined up would be a perk but not a nessesity. One of these days I swear I will get up there for the Yukon Quest. One day....
