We have a lot to do yet: we need to set up our weekly write-ins/meetings, our bashes, and our get-ta-know-ya pre-Nano meeting!
If you have done Nano here before, then you know me, and you've met Tiana, who will be Co-ML this year. This will be just wonderful!
I've sent away for our Nano stickers, and I have some from last year (will they be collector's items? hmmm), my hideously ugly but very visible Nanowrimo t-shirt is washed and ready to be worn so you can find me wherever we meet.
So what day of the week, time, place? Do we want to have a hang out? Or rotate around to different places this year?
What days/times CAN'T you meet?
How the heck are you? :o)

Yay! We have get-togethers! I'm not sure how often I can come to them, though; I'm balancing this on top of schoolwork, so most of my writing will be done at "home" (read: dorm room). Weekends are better for me, depending on where the place is. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are just plain terrible for me when it comes to work.
I haven't done Nano before, so I'm not familiar with these things. We'll see what happens.
(Had to decrease the subject count, or it wouldn't let me post.)

Hey cool! glad to see Tiana's getting onboard w/ you-- I thought it'd only be a matter of time. :o)
Have the *perfect* meeting place if folks are willing to meet on Saturday (or any day besides Sunday...): Sipping Streams Tea house.
They're open till 9 (10 on Fri and Sat), and have a reservable (or just take-overable) little room behind the main area where customers walk in, so there would be a comfortable level of separation between us and the noise or the noise and them...
I even mentioned it to the owner (like, back in May, when I was working on my '06 NaNo novel there...) and she was completely open/comfortable with the idea.
And *SCORE*! I finally finished (as in 7 drafts, sent it to a paid copy-editor finished) that '06 Mammoth just this Sunday. Don't know if I'll play this year (I might show up to see everybody), but wanted to WooHoo my accomplishment and suggest the Tea House.

Forgot to say it's also very near campus for UAF NaNoers: Under Wok and Roll in the Campus Corner, if you weren't aware of it.

I'm gonna be involved this year too. Doubt I'll be able to make it to any meetings between work and I'll been in anchorage for a week for my Opticianry Exams. And when I'm not there I'm working. Yay retail.

Hey guys!
Yes, I'm Co-ML this year...Jean just made the whole leading thing look like too much fun to resist!
I work at the hospital now, so I can meet any day, as long as we meet after three-thirty. And because I finally got a decent paying job, I'm pretty darn good, thanks!

I'm also living up at the dorms and I second the notion of meeting up at Sipping Streams! That place is the BEST! And it's such a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere that it'd be perfect for writing or hanging out :) Also, their tea is addicting. Just a warning. :P
----------Um, as for days/times...I can meet Mondays after 7 and any time in the evening/afternoon on weekends, except for Sunday nights at 6 and one weekend in November when I'll be helping run a show. Aaah, this is gonna be crazy! I really need to get a story outline going. @_@
It's the perfect story (so they say) a hero leading the way!

The Sipping Streams Teahouse DOES sound perfect, and I'm thinking around 3 or 3:30 on Saturday afternoons? That seems to fit most schedules that have been posted so far...sound good?

I'm not sure where the location is but 3:30 on Saturdays sounds good to me. I'm pretty open and what ever times are chosen I plan on working things out and showing up. Hopefully more then I have the last three years lol.

Sipping Streams is in the same knot of buildings as Gulliver's Books, Wok & Roll, and College Town Pizza.
On the side nearest the University hill they have signs out, and the stairs down to their shop.
Jeano or Agent_Caitlin, one of you should make contact with the owner this month if you can-- Jenny Downer-Tse. I spoke with her last night and she was saying how she likes to make out each month's calendar out in advance. She started asking me questions about numbers, and how we'd like the tables (asking whether we'd need more tables in the back room), etc, and I didn't have any solid answers to offer.
So I am hoping one of you organizing types could give the dear lady what she needs.

Huzzah, another year! And no classes to worry about this time, and a netbook to make those write-ins more appealing (maybe I'll actually MAKE it to one this year!!!), maybe I'll be more active...and even successfully finish perhaps? :D
Personally, I work more-or-less normal weekday daytime hours. I'm NOT a morning person, and I have an ongoing Friday evening commitment. Any weeknight or weekend should be more or less fine for me, though! I lean a little more towards Saturday or Sunday early afternoons, but I'll be fine with whatever!

Re: Sipping Streams, I can head over there tomorrow or Wednesday and talk to the lady owner. Since our meetings ranged widely between five and twenty people last year (and even more once in a while), I'll tell her fifteen and we can drag more tables over if needed. How does that sound?
As to meeting times, my work schedule will be changing in Nov. :( :( I'll be working four tens instead of five eights, and will be working a lot of weekends, so I won't be avaliable until after five-thirty. Saturday would be great, though.

I'm in again this year - last year I quit due to moving stress but that ain't happening this year!!
Great to see you Maia!!
I love love love love sipping streams and was actually going to suggest that as our meeting place when I logged on today. Shondra and I go there every Saturday morning for our traditional best friend's tea -- so it is super convenient for both of us. I know they have a back room they might let us commandeer, and if tables are an issue I've got a folding table I can bring, seats six. (if you crunch).
Congrats Tiana on your Co-MLship and hospital job.
I was pretty much looking forward to nanowrimo this year, but now that I'm actually seeing your guys' posts I am sooooo hyped. This is going to be great.

Ookay, since we are getting kinda close to the beginning of Nano, we need to make some decisions about our kickoff party. *puts on her co-ML hat*
Since November 1st falls on a Sunday this year, we have the option of having a full party on the first day of writing. This would be good because we'd have a chance to meet everyone before the major stress of the first ten pages (unless you rapid typers get ahead of where I always am at 2 am November 1st...). It might be bad, because it is a Sunday night; most of us have work the next morning (myself included), and we want to write as much as we can in the first couple of days.
So! Here's where I look at you guys, so we can decide whether to have it on the 1st, or the 7th (Saturday) or the 8th (Sunday). I'm in favor of the 1st, just so we can get a good grasp on everyone at the start. As soon as we have a consensus, I'll go talk to the lady owner at Sipping Streams so we can get that set up for us.
So, opinions!

Sipping Steams is not open on Sundays-- so maybe you could do a 10/31 kick-off and/or first write-ins on the 7th.

Even though Sipping Streams isn't open on Sundays, maybe we could find another place and still do our kickoff party on the 1st? I'm definitely partial to that, I'd love to have a get together before we all get stressed.
Just to throw out a suggestion, we could take over the room upstairs at Gulliver's. It's in the same locale so the UAF kids don't have to walk any farther. I'm up for meeting just about anywhere though.

Hey everyone, I'm new and I'm so excited that there is so many people in fairbanks area that is doing NaNoWriMo! I actually live in North Pole so I'm a little lacking with transportation. I'll be watching for when you guys decide where to meet and try to be there. But fair warning to all, I'm 16 and still in school (11th grade) so I won't be able to make any weekday meetings. But any weekend meetings I should be able to get to (hopefully)! Gaah!, this is soo awesome! I can't wait til November.

Hi my husband has a background in English Literature and told me about finding this group to let you know that we might be interested in hosting a NaNoWiMo Kickoff Party. (Yes, on a Sunday on the 1st) Please find us on facebook for more info and further discussion; we will open a discussion forum there if you are interested. We would love suggestions, but don't want to advertise on here. I'm so glad so many of you are interested in writing in our wonderful environment.

I work Tues-Sat till 5pm. I'm free pretty much anytime on Sundays.
Also, Travis probally won't be able to make it to meetings for the first half of the month. He's in India right now for work stuff. But he still plans on doing Nano, and when he get's back he plans on joining us.

introducing myself- I've got Saturday commitments, but will be done by 4:30, so I may drop by anyway, & I have been meaning to come investigate the tea shop for ages, so that sounds like a great location! 'course if I come to actual meetings, I might have to admit to my husband I am trying this insanity...

Well, I'm in favor of taking over the upper room at Gulliver's for a Saturday night party. As I mentioned, I work that day, and since I'm the one doing the arranging right now, how about six o'clock, to be done by eight so those with trick-or-treating kids can go out and do so?
Jamie, since it looks like we’re looking at Saturday evening meetings, the bus should still be running from the U. to North Pole. Check the bus listings, but a friend of mine who doesn’t drive uses that all the time.
Welcome to all the new people, and the returning people! Nice to see such a big bunch this year! I’ll stop by Gulliver’s today and make sure they’ll be open from six to eight on Saturday. If not, we may have to arrange something else. But until further notice, how does everyone like Gulliver’s at six?
