Hi everyone! I'm Viki, your ML for the region of Tampa. You'll be getting your first 'official' e-mail from me soon, but let's get the boards warmed up. I love the activity I'm seeing already (and can already tell we'll need to see about a Brandon write-in!), and more makes me smile.

So, let's introduce ourselves!

Name: Viki
Age: 27
Years Doing NaNoWriMo: This makes 3
Genre: I'm leaning towards Chic Lit this year. I've done GLBT fiction before and the year before that was mostly just general fiction.
Area of Tampa: Lutz
Anything extra? I'm really excited to get to know my region! Feel free to talk about anything in the regional boards, whether you're needing plot ideas, inspiration to get past road block, or if you have any general questions. Can't wait!

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

Age: 28

Genre: fantasy based on an rpg
Area of Tampa: temple terrace
Anything extra? looking forward to trying to make a write-in this year, and maybe even organizing one in the usf/temple terrace area :D

Age: 39
Years Doing NaNoWriMo: This is the third year I've signed up. I'm hoping this is the year I complete it -- or at least SERIOUSLY up my word count. Good grief.
Genre: I have no clue. I've considered paranormal, memoir style, kiddie-lit, chick lit... so I have a few lists I'm working from.
Area of Tampa: Lakeland. It was Tampa, St. Pete, Sebring, or Orlando groupwise :)
Anything extra? Outside of NaNo I have two children and a husband and I blog regularly. I'm a reality TV addict, and have a grudgingly ongoing relationship with my treadmill.

Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I'm in the Carrollwood/Citrus Park area. This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo and while I'm pretty excited about it, I still don't have a clue as to what I'm going to write. (Talk about writing by the seat of your pants.) I look forward to hearing from you all soon. Good luck!

Age: 29
NaNoYears: Every year since 2004. I've got plenty of t-shirts, but I've never won. November is birthday, anniversary, vacation month so this is not surprising. My first year I only got 500 words down. Having a November wedding will do bad things to your word count.
Genre: fantasy/romance/erotica
Area: Ruskin...it's south. Like, south of Apollo Beach. Never mind. I'm 20mins from Brandon.
Extra? I have never been to a write-in. Really hoping that happens this year.

Hi everyone!

I'm Vicki, coming to you from St. Pete. This is my first year, found out about nanowrimo from John, the leader of a writer's group I've been going to for a couple of months. He said he was joining, so I'll be on the lookout.

Looking forward to this, although the idea could just be another of procrastination of my current novel project!
I have written for many years, in my earlier life I was a reporter and wrote just some poetry/songs and a notebook of great non-fiction ideas. Lately, I've turned to fiction, which I find to be the hardest so far - but love the challenge.

As far as genre for this adventure, I'm not sure yet - have an idea or two cooking but we'll have to see.

Good luck to everyone!
Vicki

Hello!

I'm Victoria
I'm 19 years old
First year of NaNo (super excited I've needed something to kick my butt to actually finish a novel...)
At USF (Go Bulls!!)
Genre: Chic Lit. Been trying to write this one book for the last 5 years, had a good 100 pages of it, then decided to start all the way over. scrapped the entire thing. it's hiding somewhere and i'll probably use it as a reference point. But it's about me and my friends when we were in Junior High...hehehe. should be interesting to say the least.

I remember you! You're the steampunk writer [and actually, the only one I know]. I remember those early days of VB and scaring people in the bookstore...those were fun days indeed! Of course, then we graduated to scaring people in the Panera Bread on Westshore and Kennedy...

Hi everyone old, new, and in between! I'm Angela [but most people online call me Nyne] I used to live in Tampa, but we moved in 07. However, for NaNo I like to think that I'm still living in Tampa and hanging out with the NaNo group and having a blast trying to get to 50K.

I think I might be the only one from the original VB that is doing it this year - I asked Deege if he was going to do it and he said no [which made me sad]. I wonder if any of the old 'Rent' group will show up and try this year? Good luck to everyone!

This is my first official try, I had read Chris' book, No Plot, No Problem and tried it on my own. It was fun, but I think some support would be wonderful and the commiseration would be even better. Nothing like misery loving company when you are behind on your word count. I am still working on revisions of the first one and trying to patch some of those plot holes could repave I-4 from end to end, so I am really excited to start something new. I tend toward the mystery suspense side of things and just have to remember that I do not have to get it all right the first time through. I have had some ideas bouncing around my head and have made some notes that I plan to use for this and hope to have something like an outline before I begin. I look forward to writing with everyone and would love to meet for a write-in. I already go to Borders in Brandon one evening a week so another would be way too much fun!!

Years Doing NaNoWriMo: This is not only my first year of NaNo, but it'll be the first time since I gave up writing as a profession (about 10 years ago) that I'll be writing anything that isn't either a college paper or a "how-to"
Genre: Fantasy most likely, probably a bit of steampunk to it. That could change in the next two weeks though, cause I've never been much of a planner when it comes to my writing.
Area of Tampa: Brandon-ish
Anything extra? I'm trying to get back into college so I can become a teacher (most likely social sciences). I'm a renn-geek, a reenactor, a LARPer, leatherworker, blacksmith, and a ton of other things with questionable value that cost me more money than they could bring back.

I'm an old sportswriter trying to make up for 20 lost years spent writing about sweaty dudes who made way, way more money than I'll ever see in my life. And that's just the agents.

This is my first shot at this, and I hope it can get me jazzed to finish (um ... ahem ... start writing) a historical novel I've been researching since March.

The biggest challenge for me will be sneaking 30 days of to-hell-with-it writing past my ever-present internal editor. Geez, it took me three tries just to get the previous sentence write. I mean right. (See? It's always on.)

Good luck to all.

And thank you, Viki in Lutz (I live there, too) for taking on the role of moderator/cheerleader/liaison.

My name is Sybrian and I live in the Carrollwood area of Tampa.

I have been writing for years, although unpublished (my advance readers say I should try to publish...lol).

Currently, I am the member of three School Advisory Councils for Hillsborough County Schools (cumulative time served is going on 14 or 15 years), I am on the Accreditation Accountability Committee to Everest University, President of Carrollwood Toastmasters 2009-10, certified corporate consultant/trainer/presenter (soft skills primarily), certified life coach and Reiki Master. I also do contract work for a Wells Fargo ISO agent as a cost analyist for their clients.

I have a workshop project (life coaching) I am developing right now with a target launch for pre-enrollment in December for a January start date (tba). The trial runs are in progress now and doing quite well! There is a non-fiction book attached to this project and on-going materials. My next trial run starts tomorrow, so today I must prepare for it! It is an overall ten workshop run, so trials for later modules will continue once the actual workshops begin.

I was introduced to Nanowrimo by a fellow Toastmaster a week ago. Looked it over and jumped in. I am not certain what I will be writing as of yet, but I am well known for coming up with great ideas in a very short period of time, so even though I have just a little over two weeks to develop some type of idea on the character/plot and even genre, I'm sure the right idea will blossom spontaneously at the right moment. I just hope it isn't historical fiction....talk about needing to do serious background work! I may revive an old idea that was unresolved or just never really took off for me in a previous writing phase.

Other than that, I have three kids (two living at home, one with his Dad ~ long, short story.....Dad lives in KC, Dad re-married, has new baby boy, 13 year old boy felt his family postition was threatened and decided he needed to be there.) I have two dogs, one cat and an interesting and unusual domestic situation regarding relationship status (single, but my ex still lives here right now....yet another story!).

Okay....that's more than enough information!

And any of you who would like to meet me in person: I can easily be found at the Jimmie B. Keel library on Thursday nights at 6:45 p.m. for Toastmasters. It's an open community group and visitors are always welcome. Just ask at the front desk which room they placed us in for the evening!

Hi!

I'm Michaela, a.k.a. fineartfan, 44, and I live in Tarpon Springs. I won Nano in 2007, but then never finished the novel, which is a shame, because it was only halfway done after Nano.

Last year, I sat out Nano, but I missed doing it, so I'm going to attempt a short novel for a change in this year's Nano.

Working title: Privacy Settings: Only Friends

Synopsis:

Main character: widow, 39, one 15-year old son, Matt

Husband, Jorge, died 4 years ago in car accident, while getting Chocolate Trinity ice cream from the store, because he had a craving. He reached down to sneak a plastic spoonful of the ice cream and in that moment of inattention, wrapped his car around a tree.

Whole novel is set on Facebook, using wall posts, private messages, chats, and links to communicate the widow’s story as she re-enters the dating field and finds out who her real friends are.

I figure I may as well use my facebooking experience in this genre, probably will be labeled as chick lit if it gets done.

I hope someone can meet in Northern Pinellas county some time during Nano.

Best of luck to everyone!

Michaela

Hi, I'm Jessica, I'm 25 and I've been doing Nano since 2005 and I am a two time winner. I live in Dunedin, but I work in Tampa. I am primarily a romance author who peppers in anything from sports to sci-fi. I have 2 ideas in the back of my head that I've never done, so I think one of them will be my Nano this year.

Hi!
My name is Amanda. I'm 19 years old.
This is my first year participating in the Nanowrimo.
My novel falls under the paranormal romance genre.
I live in Lakeland.
As for extras...I'm really excited to be participating this year. I wish I had discovered the Nanowrimo sooner that I did but no use in crying over spilled milk right? Either way I'm looking forward to challenging myself to meet the 50,000 work goal. Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone,
My name is Lisa Grace. First year doing Nano. My novel "Angel in the Shadows - Book 1, ISBN# 978-1-60911-001-7" is due out by my publisher in November. It's a YA supernatural thriller set in Clearwater about a teen who can see angels and demons. It will be distributed by Ingrambook.com and available at Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon.com. My husband thinks I'm crazy to be attempting nano, since I'll be leaving on a national book tour, but it sure sounds like fun. How else am I going to meet a bunch of other nuts who enjoy writing just for the pure joy of creating?
I'll be at the picnic, look forward to meeting you guys. I live up north of Pinellas County; maybe we can get some of us together in the Palm Harbor area for a write-in. I'm ageless with a 6 year old and a husband. Check out my website, www.lisagracebooks.com and join as an angel friend, you get a VIP invite to my Tampa Book launch party for joining. I'll probably have it in early December.
I'm writing an adult suspense thriller called "The 15th Star" for Nano. Look forward to meeting everyone. Lisa

Hey, DJ! Did you get the official NaNo mail I sent out this weekend? If not, you may want to check your spam box, or if you're using a different e-mail than when you originally signed up, it may be there. The picnic Lisa's talking about is the Kick-Off event next weekend at Lettuce Lake Park. I'll post more info on the forums soon, so keep an eye out if you didn't get your e-mail. :D

Age: 24

Years Doing NaNoWriMo: My first one! I heard about Nano in December of last year, so I just missed the mark, and have been waiting for November ever since.

Genre: I hate to call it chic lit or romance, so I'm going to say modern fiction, but there is a love story. But it's not like all happy-sappy Nicholas Sparks stuff; there's going to be some sadness there, too. Maybe chic lit in the way Marian Keyes is chic lit.

Area of Tampa: Clearwater

Anything extra? Hm...not right now! I really want to make it out to a write-in so hopefully I can make that happen.

Hi all,

This is year (I don't even want to think about it) of doing NaNo. I won in 2004 and haven't since. It seems like I always get interrupted by life, which is great. I have two boys (ages 2 and 4) which makes trying to write interesting. The last couple of years though I haven't really put my whole self into it. This year I want to give the semi-finished project to my mother for a present so maybe that will give me the gumption to get back on track, instead of quitting, when I fall behind. I doubt that I will attend the picnic or any of the write-ins. I'm up in Hernando County, plus I have the whole babysitter issue, plus some plans for the weekend including taking the boys on a train ride to a pumpkin patch. I do enjoy hanging out of the forums (to a certain degree) and I well remember following the exploits of Velvet Botox. (I think that is what VB stood for).

Ah, you know, there was probably an email sent to the email on the account that I don't use anymore... and since I just signed up with this one, of course it wouldn't have gotten one... heheh, oops. My bad. 6_6;

Thank you for letting me know, though! If Lettuce Lake Park weren't so far from me, I might have been able to go... oh well...
