Hi guys!

Creating a topic for ML emails/news from HQ that will be sent. =) Just in case your spam filter keeps on catching my email (or you've marked me as spam already haha...but seriously? Please don't. At least, not for November :D), I'll be posting them here so you can keep track of them too. :D Yes, pep talks included. :D

So keep checking this thread for updates!

Subject: [NaNoWriMo Philippines] Volunteer's Meeting, one more time!

Hi Wrimos!

I hope you have had a better week than I did. :) I was one of the people who got affected by the calamities in the past two weeks, hence the cancellation of the two volunteers' meetings. We're all okay, and still luckier than other people who lost more than we did. But you can bet that there will definitely be a flood in my novel. I hope you guys are okay, too!

Anyway, so let's try this one more time. Volunteer's meeting for NaNoWriMo Philippines 2009!

WHERE: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Gateway Mall
WHEN: October 10, 2009, 3-5PM
WHAT TO BRING: Just you, your ideas :D

To those who can come, please reply to this email with your number so I know how to contact you tomorrow =) And so I can send you my number, too! To those who have replied before, just reply with a "yay" or something, since I already have your numbers. :D (ETA: email address is tina[at]pinoywrimos.com)

Also, to those who don't know yet, the NaNoWriMo website is back up, and we can raid the boards once again! Drop by and introduce yourself in the Welcome thread (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3264770)! Newbies can get mentors (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3268054) and oldies can be mentors (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3268059)! Discuss your plot or lack thereof (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3268026)! Make your presence known -- we all want to hear from you! :D

Power interruptions galore, but I don't think this can stop NaNo. :) Let's try to make this one our best year yet despite the obstacles, shall we?

Take care, everyone!

Subject: [NaNoWriMo Philippines] Kick-Off!

Hello Pinoywrimos!

How are you guys so far? I hope everyone's doing better right now. :D I'm still up for some cleaning duties this weekend, but it's better. I'm praying that new typhoon is not going to hit us anymore...and who wants to put the typhoon names in their novels as villains? /:)

I'll cut to the chase and just say it's time for...

KICK-OFF PARTY!

Let's all meet up and have a relaxing and fun afternoon to celebrate the start of this year's NaNoWriMo season. :D So I invite you all to our Kick-Off party for 2009!

WHEN: October 24, 2009 (Saturday), 3:00-5:00PM (I'm claiming good sunny weather that day!)
WHERE: Yellow Cab SM Megamall (Level 2, Building A, near Chowking)
RSVP: http://tr.im/BZ6r

I'd choose Coffee Bean again...but I figure I'll reserve coffee shops for write-ins, yes? :D Plus pizza is always nice (and fun and greasy :P). There's no entrance/registration fee, but let's all chip-in to pay for the food. :D Hope that's okay? :)

What to bring? Well, yourself. Your ideas. And a smile. (Cheesy, I know :p). This is the time where you can meet fellow writers, talk about your plot, get ideas and get any NaNoWriMo questions answered. If you have a mentor, you can probably meet your mentor too! If you're a mentor and you have a newbie, well convince them to go to the Kick-Off too! There are goodies from the official NaNoWriMo HQ for you to take home, and this year's survival kit!

So, what are you waiting for? RSVP here: http://tr.im/BZ6r :)

(Please make sure you RSVP so we know how many kits to make :D)

If you have any questions, just hop on over to this thread: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3293499

Oh, and if you have a friend who you want to persuade to join NaNoWriMo, feel free to bring them too! Maybe this is all the push they need to join us. Please note it in the RSVP :D

See you on October 24!

Hi everyone!

Eight days left! Who's got a plot? I've got some semblance of it...but I don't have an ending. Care to give me an ending with no alien invasion involved?

Anyway, just a quick reminder for tomorrow's kick-off!

WHEN: October 24, 2009 (Saturday), 3:00-5:00PM (I'm claiming good sunny weather that day!)
WHERE: Yellow Cab SM Megamall (Level 2, Building A, near Chowking)
RSVP: http://tr.im/BZ6r

If you haven't RSVP'd yet, well, go do so now! I'll be sending a text message tomorrow to tell you if I'm there. :) In case you don't get it though, just look for someone wearing this hoodie: https://store.lettersandlight.org/merchandise/nanowrimo-hoodie .

Oh and the neon ML shirt will be there too (but not necessarily worn haha), so you may want to look for that too. :)

What to expect tomorrow? Pizza, lots of talk, and meeting other Pinoywrimos! You can meet your mentor or newbie, and if you don't have a plot or you have a plot but don't know what to do with it, we'll be having a Pimp my Plot activity. What's that? You'll know tomorrow. :)

I'm excited. Are you? If you have any questions, feel free to email or post a comment here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3293499 :)

If you can't make it tomorrow, though, don't fret! There's always the write-ins during November.

EIGHT DAYS!!!

Subject: [NaNoWriMo Philippines] One week to go!

Hello my dear novelists!

First off, thanks to everyone who attended the Kick-Off last Saturday. I still kind of wish we had better acoustics inside the restaurant, but it was nice to see that you guys are still quite a talkative bunch. :D

To those who missed the Kick-Off, I gave away the 2009 survival kit. :D I've got some more kits up for grabs, and if you want one, be sure to show up on our first write-in!

But first. It's a week to go before NaNoWriMo officially starts. Are you excited? Have you got plans yet? Do you have a plot yet? Well this week is the week to get it done! Or at least, some of it :)

To ensure the maximum NaNoWriMo experience, I've got some reminders and announcements, so let's get to it:

1. Set your home region to Asia :: Philippines.
By November, as soon as our word counts start trickling in, we'll be able to see where the region stands in the Word Count Scoreboard (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/wordcount_stats). For us to get the accurate statistics, please don't forget to set your home region! Just go to My NaNoWriMo > My Regions > Home Region, and select Asia :: Philippines. :) That's it!

2. Register for the chatroom.
Last year, we did our chats via Yahoo! Messenger, which worked out fine, although every now and then one of us would get kicked out and can't get it. Or, there would be an awful, awful lag and you'll be flooded by the comments that should have been there, oh, like, five minutes ago? And don't get me started on ghost YM chats. *grumbles*

But this year we have a different set-up. I've asked for a chatroom from the people who owns the chat listings for regions for NaNoWriMo, and we have a chatroom: http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html :D

This is powered by IRC, so if you're old like me (haha), this is probably familiar to you. Just make sure you register your nick so it won't get stolen from you. If you can register your NaNo username there, that would be great, so we won't be having problems remembering who is who. :D Instructions on how to register are on the URL I provided above.

3. Newbies, mentors
Just a reminder: we've set up a mentoring program for this year, so if you're a newbie and you want a mentor to guide you through November, drop your name in the newbies thread (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3268054) so you can be up for adoption. Mentors (seasoned wrimos :D) can also leave their details in the mentors thread (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3268059), so newbies can PM you and "adopt" you as well. :)

4. Fundraising
I'll have the pledging thread up soon, as well as the downloadable pledge sheet. To those who are unfamiliar, more details on it fundraising and stuff here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3287070 :)

That's it, pansit! I can't believe I just said that...but anyway. We have one more week to get ready and then it's time! I'm definitely excited, and I hope you are too! We're up to a very fun November, hopefully the best yet.

Details on the kick-off chat will be emailed within the week. In the meantime...let's get plotting!

Cheers!

Subject: Kick-Off Chat (and some more reminders)

Hello Wrimos!

Three more days! Who's ready? Who's NOT ready? *raises hand* There's still so much stuff to doooooooo *runs around crazily*

Okay, I've calmed down now. If you're panicking like me, here's a little thought that I hope would help all of us: we have a holiday on November 2* . This means an extra writing day! So in case you find yourself in a bind on November 1 because of family stuff or any other reasons, we have November 2 to catch up. We can do this!

Purple bars, I want to see you! :P

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

As what we've done for the past two years, we'll be having a kick-off chat the night before NaNoWriMo starts. Remember, NaNoWriMo starts local time, so we're allowed to write by midnight of November 1. In preparation for that, we'll be having a "virtual" kick-off, in our shiny new chatroom! *throws confetti in the air*

WHAT: Kick-Off Chat
WHEN: October 31, 2009, 10:00PM onwards
WHERE: Official NaNoWriMo Philippines chatroom: http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html
- Please don't forget to register your nick in the chatroom!

The chat is a good time to get to know the people in the community, even if it's only virtually. This is also a way to get suggestions, names, tips and tricks and generally lots of ideas for your novels. And, in case you missed the Kick-off, this is a chance to get to know how crazy Pinoywrimos are. Based on experience, the Kick-off chat is ALWAYS very lively, so be sure to join us! Who knows, maybe we'll go beyond thirty people in the chatroom. :P See how fun (and crazy confusing) that would be!

NOW FOR MORE REMINDERS!
- If you haven't affiliated and set your home region yet, do so now! Go to My NaNoWriMo > My Regions > Home Region, and select Asia :: Philippines and that's it!
- You can still get a mentor/adopt a newbie -- be sure to drop by the respective threads in the regional lounge!
- The Pinoywrimo Pledge Program is ongoing -- more details here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3329282
- If you've been reading the official NaNoWriMo blog (http://blog.nanowrimo.org), there's this fun thing they're giving for 30 lucky Wrimos -- a free book cover from an actual book cover artist. Make sure you fill in your novel info so you have a chance at getting picked! More details here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/forum/523

Alright, that's it! Stay safe everyone, and pray for sunny weather! :) See you at the kick-off chat :D

Subject: T minus 7 hours to go!

Hello Wrimos!

So what a night that was, huh? I was nervous for most part of the night and my family and I were ready to evacuate if it rains hard enough...but thank God it didn't. Now we just got back cable, I've updated my iPod and I'm trying to add some more details for my novel outline...and things are almost back to normal. I hope you're all safe from Santi, too!

It's just a few hours till November 1, and I know a lot of you may be out preparing for Halloween, I know others are also preparing (or trying to prepare) for what will happen in less than seven hours. NaNoWriMo, how can you come by and be upon us so fast?

Regardless of you have an outline or if you're going to do all this by the seat of your pants, here's some things to note before November starts. These things may just be small, but it could mean a world of difference for November:

- Is your chair set to the right height?
- Are your feet flat on the ground?
- Is your posture correct?
- Is your monitor at the correct distance and brightness?

Being comfortable is important to any NaNoWriMo novelist. It can make the difference between an enjoyable month writing or giving up in the first week.

While we're at it:
- how your hands are positioned on the keyboard?
- have you got an ample supply of munchies and drinks? Healthy munchies and drinks? ;)
- have you got blank CD/DVD discs or a USB drive to make backups of your novel?

If you're panicking right now...STOP. Don't panic! November is supposed to be fun, so don't stress yourself out too much. If it gets too hard, don't worry -- you've got 600+ Pinoywrimos together with you on this, and 100,000+ more writers all over the world. :) We can do this!

Be sure to join us tonight at the Kick-off chat!

WHAT: Kick-Off Chat
WHEN: October 31, 2009, 10:00PM onwards
WHERE: Official NaNoWriMo Philippines chatroom: http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html
- Please don't forget to register your nick in the chatroom!

Get your pens/keyboards ready! We're up for a really fun November. :D

Cheers!

Subject: And we're off!

Dear Pinoywrimos,

And just like that, NaNoWriMo 2009 has begun.

I know you're all probably busy writing now...and but let me tell you a short story. :P

One of my goals for this year is to lose weight. It's been in my new year's resolutions since...I don't know, high school? I've tried a lot of things, like getting exercise DVDs, trying out a sport (never worked for me), and even trying some simple diets that would make me lose weight, but nothing ever worked. Until this year, when I finally signed up for the gym.

I don't know what's up with the gym people, but they're very, very insistent. In a span of a month of being a member, I signed up for personal training, got a nutritionist and is in more physical pain than I really signed up for. I found myself going to the gym every other day and following a certain kind of diet with servings and less rice and more veggies and...what was I doing again?

In a way I understood why they were in some kind of hurry for me to get started on a fitness program. The earlier, the better they say. I've lost...well, a lot of weight since I signed up for the gym -- the most I've lost so far. I don't know if I would have been able to do that if I did everything on my own or just started doing the personal training and nutritionist sessions now. I'm 5lbs away from my target weight loss this year -- and I thought it wouldn't be possible.

In a way, my journey to weight loss is kind of like NaNoWriMo. Just like how the gym people encouraged me to start early, that's what I encourage you to do so too. We're lucky enough to have a long weekend at the start of November -- let's make use of it! The words you write this long weekend may help you not panic as much as November goes by. Shoot for big goals, not just 1667 on the first two days but 3000, 5000 or even 10000! Who knows, you might just reach it!

Happy writing everyone! I believe in each and every one of you, and you should believe in yourselves too, because you guys are amazing. No typhoon or storm or rain can stop us, we are Pinoywrimos and we will write this November. Who's with me?

Cheers!

Subject line: Upcoming events for this week

Hello everyone!

So it's November 2, and I'm at the office. Not exactly the best way to spend my holiday, but it's kind of fun because I'm trying to sneak in some writing time. Right now I just finished one page I have to edit for work (and I still have 50+ more to go T_T), but I'm taking a self-proclaimed break to send this email because there's some kind of email lag in the website (have you gotten the pep talk email yet? I haven't).

ANYWAY. So I know everyone's writing writing writing today, but let me disturb you a bit to send the upcoming events for this week. :D

1. ONLINE CONFERENCE AND WORD WAR 2009
To anyone who was at the Kick-off chat last Saturday -- crazy, huh? I know. :P So let's continue the craziness twice a week every week of November, just to keep things interesting. To those who don't know, the chat is where most of the conversations during write-ins/parties start/continue. All the Chuck Norris talk? Yeah, it started in the conferences.

The chat is also where we hold our word wars. What are word wars, you say? It's a...well, a war with words. No seriously, it's a time for you to challenge your fellow Wrimos with who gets to write the most words in a span of time. This is your time to use pressure to get your word counts going, so if you're lagging or you just feel like going up to the challenge, join us!

WHERE: Pinoywrimo Chatroom http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html
WHEN:
November 3, 2009, 8:00-11:00PM (Tuesday)
November 5, 2009, 8:00-11:00PM (Thursday)
(and onwards, if you guys are up for it)
* word wars will start 9:00PM :D

2. UP DILIMAN MEET-UP
For UP Diliman Wrimos, a small meet-up is going to happen this week, to just get to know each other and to possibly organize a weekly write-in. Related thread here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3329886

WHEN: November 5, 2009 (Wednesday), 5:00PM
WHERE: AS steps
* Look for the guy with the shades

** To other people who want to set up meet-ups/write ins, feel free to do so! Just please let me know about it so I can add them in the calendar. :)

3. TALECRAFT CHARACTER BUILDING WORKSHOP
We're all invited to attend the Talecraft Character Building workshop this weekend at Powerbooks Greenbelt. More details can be found at this thread: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3318357 . Notable guests are Budjette Tan (writer of "Trese") and Taga-ilog (creator of "Pasig"). This is just right before the first write-in, so don't worry about the events overlapping :D

WHEN: November 7, 2009 (Saturday), 1-3PM
WHERE: Powerbooks Live! Greenbelt

4. WRITE-IN
What's a write-in, you say? It's a time where we all invade one coffee shop, bring out our writing instruments and...write the afternoon away. :D Seriously. There might be word wars, there might be prizes, and there's definitely going to be lots of fun and words written. If you missed the Kick-Off, this is your time to meet your fellow Wrimos and get inspiration to write, write, write!

WHAT: Write-in
WHEN: November 7, 2009 (Saturday), 3-5PM
WHERE: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Greenbelt 3

The RSVP sheet for the write-in will be up by Wednesday :) First ten to sign up who doesn't have the 2009 survival kit will get theirs on Saturday! :D

Most of the events can be seen at our handy-dandy (or not) Google calendar found at the header of our regional lounge (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/263) or get it straight here (http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=2r9p9lnfkt0mih91s3ml684v2o%40gr...).

And to those who asked, we have our own Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=168232934225 :D I'll repost the events here too just so there's no more excuses of not knowing if there is an event or not. :P

Okay, this email is long enough. I need to write more words for my novel if I want to hit 5k tonight. But to everyone else, I'm seeing SOARING word counts! Keep it up guys! I'm so proud of everyone. :) 100 WINNERS FOR 2009!

Going back to work now,

Subject: Almost done with the first week

Hello Pinoywrimos!

So today it's Day 5. My phone is broken, I haven't written a word, I'm being overwhelmed with work, payday is so far, there's a team building this weekend that I will probably end up being the muddiest person ever, and I'm going crazy here...but life's dandy. Seriously.

Why am I so optimistic? I don't know, maybe because I'm just naturally so? Or not. :P Or maybe because I know after this week, it probably won't be as crazy as this week. Or something.

I hope you guys are having a better week than I am. :D

On another note. One of my new favorite TV shows since last year was Castle. I'm a fan of crime procedural TV shows (is that what you call them?), and during the Fall premieres, I caught this show on my download list. So I got it, thinking it should be interesting because it featured an author and crime and some people are copying the crimes in his novel. I thought that was the only story, BUT it was only for the first episode.

To make the long story short, if Numb3rs is a crime show for mathematicians, Castle is the crime show for writers. Awesome stuff. And it does not hurt that Nathan Fillion is the main star.

So this morning, Castle's twitter was tweeting some writing tips, and here's one tip I'd like to share with everyone for the first week of NaNoWriMo:

"I’m a firm believer in getting something, anything on the page. You can’t rewrite a blank page."

People may wonder what you're doing, people may think you can't do it, or maybe even you think you can't do it. But you can. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be written down. So get those words down, dear writer. That's all you need to do this month. :)

And don't forget:

"There's an old folk saying that goes: Whenever you delete a sentence in your NaNoWriMo novel, a NaNoWriMo angel loses its wings and plummets, screaming, to the ground." - Chris Baty

Think of the NaNoWriMo angels, my friends. Don't let them lose their wings. :)

We can do this! :)

Cheers!

Subject: Mid-November Weekend

Hello Pinoywrimos!

So it's the second week. I am honestly not really having a great week, writing or life-wise. Granted, there's are other people who have had suckier weeks than I did, but this wasn't my tip-top week either. Work, as usual, is eating me alive, and I've been feeling too stressed to function on other things normally, and when I get home, all I want to do is sleep.

Strangely enough, my novel is behaving. Last year, when I hit Week 2, I was gnashing my teeth at my novel. Why did my protagonist cry? Why is everything so slow? Why am I running out of words? Two years ago, I was complaining about my novel, too. Why are my characters refusing to talk to each other? Why is this happening? Why am I even writing this stupid thing?

Do those sound familiar? Don't worry, you're not alone.

But Week 2 is just like that. For those who have been doing NaNoWriMo for a couple of years now, we know Week 2 is the hardest. Week 2 is where most people question what they are doing. So to the newbies: don't worry, this is normal. And don't worry, you'll get through this.

So the goal for this weekend? We all have to get to the magical land of 25K.

My brother ran a 5k marathon last weekend. I have zero experience in running marathons, but I know that I get impatient when I run on the treadmill, even if it's only 3K. My brother told me that the outside experience is better, and even if he did get tired, when he reached halfway point, everything changed. He found more energy to run and he finished his first marathon ever.

That's noveling too. We may be intimidated by the sheer number of words that we STILL have to write, but when we get to the 25K mark, we are halfway done. And knowing that you have written 25,000 words, you can write 25,000 more. You've gone that far, you can surely push for more. :D

So keep on writing. Let's all run, walk, even crawl to that 25,000 mark, and then we'll get to 50k together. :)

ANNOUNCEMENTS!
1. Double Your Daily Word Count Day!
I've declared a regional holiday for all of us -- but that doesn't mean we can stop writing. If we accomplish this, then we can take a break on the 15th. Join the Double Your Daily Word Count Day on Saturday! See more details here:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3446131

2. Word War Bonus Rounds
Need to increase your word count but don't know how to find the motivation? Pressure is always a motivation! We'll be having a series of Word War Bonus Rounds on Saturday, from 3-4, 5-6, 9-10 and 10:30-11:30. All these word wars will be done at the chatroom (http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html), and I've seen people churn out thousands of words into these word wars! If you need a boost, go and join a war!

What's in it for you? The top Word Warriors of the Year will get a prize by TGIO. :D And it would bring you closer to your word count goal.

Will you get glory? Well, word war glory, yes. :P

So join the wars on Saturday! It's gonna be a bloody...er, wordy mess. :P

Word war standings can be found here! http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3444417

3. Cebuano Write-In
All Cebuano Wrimos are invited to the first write-in in Cebu! Much thanks to purplyana for providing the venue. Bring your novels, writing instruments and other things you need for writing and meet new Wrimos as you write the afternoon away!

WHERE: Handuraw Pizza, Gorordo Avenue
WHEN: 3-6PM, November 14, 2009
Related thread: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3428399

Handuraw Pizza will be offering a 10% discount for all Wrimos who attend the write-in! Don't forget to take pictures of the write-in! :)

Okay, I'm off to work, and so I can sneak writing in later while I'm at the office. Go Pinoywrimos!

Cheers!

Howdy Pinoywrimos,

And what do you know it's week 4! Gasp! Less than 6 days and NaNoWriMo is over? Who's glad it's over? I think I am.

But I won't bore you (do I?) with a misplaced pep talk this Tuesday. :) I'll do that on Thursday. Today, I'll just drop in your inboxes so I can announce the upcoming events this week!

WORD WARS
Last stretch of word wars this week! If you want to get a word warrior award during TGIO, you still have time to join, but if you just want to get your word counts up to reach 50k or any other word count goal, then join in! Here's the schedule:

November 24 (Tuesday -- that's tonight!), 9-10PM
November 25 (Wednesday) - 9-10PM
November 26 (Thursday) - 9-10PM

We'll have the usual chat starting 8:00PM, and if I'm not there yet, just talk about anything and everything (who's seen New Moon, btw? :p), and then I'll be there before 9PM to get everyone ready for the war. :D Chatroom URL is http://chatnano.net/tempchats/philippines.html , so join join join!

We'll be having an all day virtual write-in on November 30 (since it's a holiday), so go online on that day too! We'll be cheering on everyone to reach 50,000 words on that day, and we'll celebrate regardless if you reached that goal or not.

WRITE-INS
We'll be having our area write-ins this Saturday, our last write-in for the season. By area write-in, we will simultaneous write-ins in different areas of the Manila, and even in Cebu. :D More details will be sent by Thursday, but in the meantime:

* North Write-In: Location TBA, 3:00-6:00PM
* Central Write-In: Location: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Galleria, 3:00-6:00PM
* Cebu Write In: Location: Handuraw Pizza, Gorordo Avenue, 3:00-6:00PM

If anyone would like to volunteer to hold a write-in for the South (Makati, or even Alabang area), please email me so I can add them in the schedule. If anyone would like to host a write-in anywhere else other than the locations up there, let me know too. The more write-ins the better. :D

SHOUTOUTS:
If you've reached 50,000 words, make sure you make your presence known here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3459154 :) Novel verification is in a few days, so make sure you verify to get the pretty purple bars!

THANK GOD IT'S OVER PARTY RSVP:
Our TGIO Party will be on December 5, 2009 at National Bestsellers in Robinson's Galleria. I've put up an RSVP thread here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3457303, so please post a comment if you're coming or even if you're thinking of coming so we can have a headcount. :D You can also post your questions there, too!

And I think that's it! I've got a crazy day ahead of me and I'm thinking of taking it out on my MC later when my crazy day is over just so someone can relate to me. Haha. See you at the war tonight!

Can't wait for November to be over,
Tina
