A bit of exciting news. The Prescott region of "National Novel Writing Month" is now in library partnership with the Prescott Library. This means several exciting things for the group. We have a place to meet with a library that fully supports our writing cause. The Library will also be helping to publicize our wonderful event, which means we might be seeing many new faces. The Library is also interested in building up the event in the future.
Whee!
All of this has an immediate impact to our region. We will be holding both our Kick-Off party and our very first Write-In of the month at the library:
Kick-Off Party: Tuesday, October 27th from 6pm to 7:30pm. To be held in the Founders room Suite A & B (on the lower level). We are in the midst of planning out lots of lovely fun for this event, including games, giveaways, and free refreshments.
"Hit the Keyboards" Write-In: Sunday, November 1st from 2pm to 4pm. Come start off your writing month with a good habit: dedicated time to get in a few good words! Bring your laptop, pens, journals, muse ... and get started in the company of experienced marathon writers.
The other events planned are:
Regular Write-Ins: Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at the Yellow Leaf Coffee Co. in Prescott. Great drinks, and comfy chairs. These will occur on the Sunday, November 8, 15, 22, and 29. Yellow Leaf is located on 3180 Willow Creek Road in the Fry's shopping center. They serve coffees, teas, chai, cold drinks, cakes, bagels, and other pastries. There's a Jack-In-The-Box and a Subway in this center as well so you can get dinner or lunch before or after if the sweet treats aren't your thing. NOTE: Special stickers to those who show up!
Live Chat - Prescott Wordmongers: Every Monday night from 7-8pm. . This chat does not need any special software as it works in any browser. Just sign into the site with your favorite browser, go to live chat (the chat uses the same username and password, so if it prompts you for a login again, just use that), go into the writing room and you are good to go! We will be meeting here every Monday night from this coming Monday to November 30.
A full listing of these events are available for viewing in the group Google calendar. You will find this listing on the front page of the regional forum up at the top right.
If you are interested in joining us for the kick-off party please respond to this thread. If someone needs help getting to the library, please speak up. We can see if anyone is near you with which you could possibly carpool.
Hope to see you there!

Looks like I originally had the time zone on the calendar set incorrectly and it was showing some really odd times. I've fixed the problem (I think). If anyone sees something odd on it, please let me know and I can look into it further. :)

Hiya Julieann,
Do we need to RSVP for the Kick-off at the library or is it a "just show up and we'll shoe-horn you in" event?
The same question applies to the "Hit the Keyboards" Write-In and the "Regular" Write-Ins.
Also, are they all "come-as-you-are" events or do I need to break out the Carmen Miranda fruit-hat, leather corset, pom-poms and penny loafers? (Do you think it's unique enough? I hate it when other guys wear the same thing... Oh never mind. It won't work out because my wife wants to wear that outfit.) Anyway, what's the dress code?
Looking crazily forward to my first WriMo!

I was trying to get a feel of how many people will attend the big party. Not that it makes a huge amount of difference as we have a large room to fill up. :) The other events are a come-if-you can. I'll be there no matter what.
The Kick-off and other get-togethers are all definitely come-as-you-are. No costumes needed, just comfortable attire. I won't be in any costume other than in a neon-yellow Municipal Liaison shirt that will make your eyes water just looking at it. Comfortable attire is really important for the write-ins, as we'll be sitting for a while trying to pound some words out.

The absolute BEST part of the Night of Writing Dangerously is that it's my birthday! (Yay me!) If you'd like to help me attend, you can always go here: http://www.gifttool.com/athon/MyFundraisingPage?ID=1891&AID=806&PID=1046... and donate generously. It would be a GREAT birthday present. Unless I get paid for a couple of articles or my short story I probably won't be able to attend. I'm working on a few more articles; hopefully they'll be promptly paid for (Yah, sure! I wish.)
Anyway, I'll see you all on the 27th for the grand kickoff party!
For anyone interested, there is a PWP meeting (Professional Writers of Prescott) the following day (Wednesday, October 28th at 6PM) in the Founders Suite at the Prescott Public Library. For membership and other information visit them at http://www.prescottwriters.com - Same as the kick-off party (almost): same bat-location, same bat-time, different bat-day. (Too much bat-man).
Joy, happiness, and wordiness,
Curtis

I'll def. be to the kick-off mtg, plus I'll be nosing around to see if anybody wants to do regularly scheduled writing days on other days besides Sunday, since Sundays won't work for me...
This is my first NaNoWriMo attempt, so I'm excited with a little trepidation thrown in as well :D
Looking forward to seeing some of you this evening!

Other write-ins would be great, but weeknights aren't good for me. However, I very much encourage others to take the lead in setting up other times and locations! Rob-az, if you are successful, let me know and I can add them to our calendar so other people will be aware of them.
If anyone else wants to set up a few in the outlying areas (such as Sedona or Cottonwood), please let me know so I can add it to our listing of events.
