Welcome to the Shoreline Region!
Take a moment here to introduce yourself! Who are you? Where are you from? What are you writing about? What is the name of your dog?

Good morning Lizzie! This is my first NaNoWriMo and probably my 100th attempt to write a novel. I have plenty of notes, ideas and outlines -- but that's about it.

My name is Michelle and I'm a wife and mom to three kids. We live in West Haven and I work p/t as an office assistant. I'm a RABID (not just avid) reader). In fact, just read the first two "House of Night" series in a day! I LOVE YA Fiction and hope that I can write it as well. I'm hoping that NaNo will allow me to break through this imaginary wall that prevents me from actually putting my story down in it's entirety.

Looking forward to meeting all you wonderful people!

Hi Everyone! This is my second year of NaNo, and I'm really looking forward to it! My name's Margi but my pen name is Marion Reed. This year I'll be writing a historical fiction that takes place at the start of the 1890's recession in Mystic, CT. It's a piece I've been dreaming up probably for years, but started thinking about in earnest this past spring. I've written a short story version for a class, but it doesn't go into the amount of depth I want to explore...I hope to get it all out this November!

Unfortunately I will be unavailable for the first two weeks of the month (roughly) as I'll be traveling. But, I will be writing, and cheering all of you on in person. Let's see...I'm from Madison though I've also lived in New Haven and Branford.

Michelle--Being that last year was my first NaNo and the idea of writing 50K words scared me senseless at first, I can tell you that:

a. It is an invisible barrier that NaNo is great help in breaking; and
b. This is the best region. Seriously. Very smart, funny, supportive group. Attend the write-ins if you can--they're immensely helpful and fun!

And my dogs are named Bear and Bodhi.

1. My name is Slaine.
2. I'm from the Meriden/Wallingford area though I work in Middletown.
3. I have no clue what I'm writing about.
4. I have no dog, though I do have a psychotic knock-kneed cat without a name.

Hi Everyone, I'm Jess and I'm in New London, nice to meet ya!

This is my second year doing NaNo, though I didn't win last year it wasn't for lack of enthusiasm and I'm really excited about winning in 2009. This year I'll be writing something vaguely science fiction-y, lots of spaceships and robots and strong female characters that are so much fun to write. I don't have a dog, but if I did it would be probably be named Oy or something equally nerdy.

Hi Slaine-

All the great writers have cats so you are on your way to brilliance. Trust me, your cat is sane in its own mind and prefers the name it calls itself anyway.

Writing is a bit like the song from Finding Nemo... just keep writing just keep writing and it wil come

Hi!!! I'm Alex of Stratford, the nether-region between Shoreline and Fairfield County. I'm 14, and I won my first NaNo last year, and looking forward to an encore performance.

Last year my novel was sort of literary set in a strange sort of purgatory for people who died suddenly and have yet to come to terms with their life, following four teenagers through their process of forgiving. It's probably about halfway done with some majorly gaping plot holes, but I like it. It's 25% tragic (in theory) - the first character you're introduced to is also the last - she simply can't forgive herself and becomes the caretaker of the caves (in which the characters wander while figuring their s**t out), and freeing the previous caretaker, an enslaved man who died while being forced to fight for the Confederacy in the Civil War (or something equally tragic, but that was my understanding).

This year is still pretty fuzzy - it's a fanfiction idea I had and want to original-ize. Unfortunately, it really only works in the semi-reality of medical dramas and not in any remotely realistic situation. Boo (it was House fanfiction, if anyone cares, set with the original team, and Cuddy would have a kid and basically he would grow up in the hospital and the team plus Wilson would be like a family to him). I really like the idea, but I don't want to write fanfiction for NaNo, so I'm trying to original-ize it and failing sadly. It's just not that feasible. It'd be a great TV show (screnzy maybe?). Meh. I'll keep thinking about it.

My dog's name is Rascal, and the dog that we are sitting for a really long time is called Moscow. I really want a cat, but my parents won't get me one because a) I'm allergic and b) my mom had some pretty bad experiences with cats as a kid. Her mom pretty much took any animal that shelters in the area couldn't place. Some of them couldn't find a home for a reason.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to NaNo, and I might even be able to go to meet ups this year, so cross your fingers for me!

Byebye.

Hey everyone!

My name is Amalia. I live in East Haven. Last year was my second Nano win, but I've been nanoing since 2002. Obviously not always with the right level of commitment.

Last year, Nano kicked me off to a fabulous noveling year. I've written four books in the last six months (one of them a complete revision from the ground up of my winning novel from November in a different point of view) and am busily trying to revise and prepare them for submission to agents and the like. I'm hoping that Nano will help me keep up my momentum through November and into the holiday season for another productive year.

I have no idea what I'm writing about this November. But I'm thinking that my leading lady's name is going to be Emma. That's really all I've got going for me at the moment.

Nice to be back with a writing community!

Hello

I'm Kristin! I'm from both Burlington (way up north) and New Haven (where I currently go to school and spend most of my time.) I'm not quite sure what I'm writing about yet, but I do have some ideas ranging from pirates to knights and such. Mostly either fantasy or historical fiction. Not sure what yet. And as for my dog's name? Well, I do not have a dog and I am in reality so afraid of dogs that it is an actual phobia. True story.

Hi everyone! I'm Lauren and I live in Bethany. This is my third year of NaNoWriMo. Despite the fact that I've had my permit since last May, I still don't have my license, but hopefully I'll be able to convince my mum to drive me to at least one event or two.

The story I'm writing is a girl's journal for her English class that ends up having a lot more personal stuff than she anticipates in it alongside the mundane, everyday events that she has to write about for class. I tend to write fantasy, which this isn't, so I'm hoping it'll turn out okay!

As for pets, I don't have a dog either. My kitty's name is Sasha, though, and she's way better than having a dog :D

Hi, I'm Karen and I can't believe nanowrimo is in like 2 seconds! I'm planning on writing 8k on November 1st (it's a Sunday) if anyone wants to do it with me (or another amount of words).

I live in Groton, and I just moved here from Storrs where I went to UConn. Now I graduated and have a fulltime job hurray! not lol

I have a kitty named Mitzie and I love her.

I'm thinking about aiming for 120k words this year - 2 novels. Last year was my first official year (I did off months too) and I got 71k words.

This year I'm writing about time travel romance with aliens! As for the second novel - not an inkling of an idea :(

By the way, I am not good with writing around other people aka at write ins, so forgive me if I don't. But if I'm aiming for 120k I will probably have to anyway.

Hi, I'm Ann, and this is my first year doing NaNo. I'm from New Haven and I plan to write something horror/science-fiction-y about zombies.

No dogs, no cats, no kids...just one husband who is also an English professor.

I hope to go to some meet-ups/write ins in the New Haven area.

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon!!

Cheers!!

Hey all! I'm Brittany, technically from upstate NY, but very recently a resident of Clinton CT! I am excessively using exclamation points because I am PSYCHED for Nano to start!!! Who's with me!?

Haha, anyways, this will be my third year doing Nano. My plot so far consists of heavy alterations of modern and ancient folktales, with small twists of myth thrown in for good measure. Let's hope it turns out coherent, eh?

No doggie here, but if I did, it would be a Newfy named Cooper.

I don't think I actually introduced myself yet this year. I'm Chrissy, 30 years old, living in Middletown. No dog, but I do have a cat that I'm convinced (more and more with every passing day) is my soul mate, and is probably smarter than I am!

I have no idea yet what I'm going to write this year. That's either a huge problem, or not really, since I have a couple weeks. :) I teach high school and work at the Mark Twain House every other weekend.

Hey. 8D

My name is Kade [Kadyleigh blahblahblahwhatever].

I won NaNo last year. I do NaNo yearly and have since I was like twelve, not on this account sadly enough. During the year I do things like it for forums. :]

I live in East Haven, work and go to school in New Haven, and work in Branford.

I love people, I am all over the place, my dog and I don't get along and I hate my cats but love the kittens they just had. I am not a pet person.

I'm eighteen and a homo. I write gay fiction. [which is funny because I am a chick but I write gay male fiction.]

I start my piece every year, stop working on it , and scrap it.

Then I start something new.

I won regardless last year, which was quite the surprise.

See you all around. :]

I didn't use this account for my first year either, but if you edit your profile, it allows you to change it. I was able to add my first year in. I guess it's honor system. :)

I am Miss Bert. I do not own a dog, but my mom does and his name is Ace. He is a rescued hotdog who came from a wonderfully named place: the Home for Wayward Weenies.

I have 2 ragdoll kitties and a tank of neon tetras. For those of you who remember birds in conjunction with me, yes, I remember them too. The last one, my old man who was 21, died a month ago. If anyone is in need of bird cages, perches, dishes, or toys let me know.

I live in Wallingford. I have an ancient IBM Thinkpad that I watch TV with and drag to NaNo events.

This is my 7th year of doing NaNo and I always finish. Even 2 years ago when my dad died during NaNo.

I am writing a weird kind of post-modern novel this year called Meta Data. It's going to be about a few seemingly unrelated events but I am going to keep returning to them and looking at them from all angles until they connect. That is the plan, anyway. The Easter Bunny is a character. So is a dead fairy. It might turn out to be funny, who knows?

I am an unemployed bum who spends too much time on Facebook pretending to be my cat. Although that makes me sound much weirder than I really am. Maybe.

Hello! My name is Kayleigh Teachout, but my pen name is K.T.Riffic. It is funny you should ask is I have a dog, because I do and her name is Lizzie! (Lizzie D. Puppy is her full AKC name.)

This is my first year participating and I have no idea what I will be writing about yet as I just learned about this 2 days ago. I was thinking about writing a book, but it was going to be more of a non fiction, self-help book. I guess that idea will just have to wait.

I started writing a novel when I was about 15 or so and I have some experience in blogging, but that is all the writing experience I have had. This will be very interesting and a great self challenge. I am looking forward to making new friends along the way, so you can count on me showing up to some of those write-ins I saw posted on the other thread.

I live in Seymour and will be starting a job in Middletown. Fortunately it comes with very flexible hours.

Can't wait for November!

Hello!

I am Patricia Lafaylve and my pen name is...um. Patricia Lafayllve ;) This is mostly so that I can remember when to turn around and say "yes" to people asking for me. I'm an author who needs a kick-in-the-pants and a writing community, so NaNoWriMo looks like a good place for both. I live in New Haven, at the top of Fair Haven Heights.

Let's see...I have no clue what I'll be writing yet. No lack of ideas, just a lack of focus! I may end up working on a non-fiction piece that I've been meaning to get to, or the non-fiction piece I'm currently working on (although I know that would be cheating). Then there is the short story/poem memoir I've worked on and off on (more cheating, unless I do all original pieces FOR that book), and the re-telling of Njal's Saga that I really should get back to (it's outlined and Part One is complete; I'd like to finish BOOK One, of the planned trilogy, so I can get that into submission motion). Or, heck, I might just throw all that ove rto one side and do something completely different. Can I end up doing some of each and have it count for the overall word count? Or is that cheating of the most dastardly kind?

Yes. It's a little scary being in the Patty-Mind.

My husband and I have two dogs. Holly is a runt, pit-bull/lab mix (30 pounds! she's wee but fierce! She says so!) and nine years old. Sheldon is a gi-normous lab/shepherd mix (85-90 pounds and definitely Not Fierce. He's a'scardey, mostly of any strangers) and is five or six years old (the vet wasn't sure). Both are rescues. Holly is gold/brown and white, Sheldon is black, thus ensuring that no matter where we go or what we wear, there is visible animal fur on us, marking us as part of their pack. We have no cats, because my allergies forbid such creatures - sad, because I like cats, and never being able to be owned by a cat means i'll never be a really-real writer...*wink*

Anyhow, off to the races. Might meet some of you Sunday, if I can make it out there; if not, hopefulyl at a write-in!

I can't believe nano starts so soon! I've written sci-fi stories the last two years and will probably do the same this year. I don't plan, just write. Although maybe I should be planning a bit... Hmm.
Pets = numerous, and tend to be sharp (i.e. biting weasels, a spiny mouse called Spiny Norman). No dogs, though.

Hello!

My name is Erin, and this is my first NaNoWriMo, though I've considered it before. I live in Hamden and work in Milford.

I have a mystery/supernatural story that I've been working on for the past couple of weeks and wanted to use NaNoWriMo to make sure I KEEP writing it, but I know I'm supposed to start with a brand new story. I would LOVE to add 50K to the little I have so far, but there's a fantasy story, shelved in favor of the aforementioned, that also wants to be told. I'm leaning toward the latter.

And my dog's name is Jack. Your best guess as to what he's a mix of. Right now we're going with Wolfhound/English Setter/Misc. And two cats, Sally and Chloe. I might not wake if I failed to give them their due. ;)

Hi fellow novelists-
I'm thrilled to be starting my second NANOWRIMO. I did not win the first time, but am confident I will pass the 50,000 mark with the rest of you this time around.

Well, I was planning on adding 50,000 words to a novel in progress for this, but after reading through the forums I have realized that is a non-negotiable rule. So i don't know yet what I will be writing. I guess I'll find out in a week.

I have a fat, stinky, beloved dog named Fletcher and I'm looking forward to hanging out with you on Sunday.

My name is Jeff. I have a lovely and supportive wife and 4 daughters. We all love to read and we live in the Old Saybrook area.

We used to have cats before my wife developed allergies. They were called Free and WeeWa. I had a picture of a dog once.

This is my first year with NanoWriMo, but I have toyed with writing for years. I just never stuck with any one idea for long enough to make anything significant. I am not quite sure what I am going to write. I will decide the night before. Between now and then I am collecting and cataloging ideas and their details. It will probably be Fantasy and / or Slice of Life. It may also be apocalyptic genre. I have some ideas about Zombies that I don't really want to build a complete story around. Maybe I could just make it a dream sequence in the novel I do write.

I am curious about people's experiences here. They must be good since it seems like there are many return contestants.

Hey all! I'm Erica Davis, originally from Buffalo, NY where the rest of my family still resides. I write YA fiction and supernatural thrillers. "Hannah" is a nasty 8lbs Bichon and her little brother "Sammy" is a goofy 72lbs one-eyed Greyhound (Which makes his full name Sammy Davis Jr. My Dad picked his new name after he was rescued. My dad's a clever guy. The dogs live in Buffalo with Mom and Dad. Hope to meet you all soon!

Hi all,

My name is Jamie. I've been doing Nano since 2003 -- I think. I'm from Guilford. I've got two cats named Tish and Ash and a husband named Tom. I'm writing a paranormal romance called Shifter. It will be like "The Postman by David Brin" meets "Ladyhawke."

I'm going to try and get to some writing meet ups this year. I remember one year in Panera a grumpy old man said in a loud voice, "Why don't they just stay home and write?" And my husband responded, "Why didn't you just stay home and make a sandwich?"

Good luck everyone! :D -- Jamie
