I'm a native San Francisco girl, dragged away to grow up in Barstow, CA (yeah ... if you know Barstow, it's because you drove thru there once, and it was either the hottest or windiest/sand-blowingest/or both day you'd ever experienced!), escaped to San Diego, then escaped to the wilds of British Columbia, then escaped to the Seattle area, wherefrom I long to escape to ...... 8-) I think my autobiography will be titled "The Escape Artist"!

I'm from a little town called Port Glasgow, about 20 miles from Glasgow, which is in Scotland, then yo-yo'd back & forth between Scotland and England until we finally left Scotland for New York when I was 5. That only lasted 18 months then my parents upped sticks again and came back to England.
There we stayed for about 40 years, although we still managed to move house a few times before I left home, but 4 years ago the wander lust bug returned and we moved to Spain. Stayed there for three years then moved back to Scotland only 20 miles from where I started off :-)
Finished moving? Nope. We're spending this weekend house hunting down in the Midlands, the area of England my parents thought good enough to move us to all those years ago. Maybe they knew more than I gave them credit for!

Born in Mobile Alabama and grew up on the Gulf Coast. Married at 17 and became an Army wife. Lived in Germany and Italy, Florida, N. & S. Carolina, and ended up in Indiana. We planned on going home after we retired but life tends to stack the deck at times. He died Jan 29 and so I guess I'm stuck here. He's only two blocks from home and I don't think I could leave him here alone.

I'm glad whoever started this post was literate enough to spell "y'all" correctly. I get so tired of seeing it spelled "ya'll." Almost as much as I hate hearing it mispronounced "yew awl."
I'm from a small town in middle Georgia (US)--Barnesville, about 1 hour south of Atlanta. Have lived in Atlanta (college, Georgia Tech), Tennessee, Colorado, California (only for a summer), Florida, then back home to GA. Have family around the US in Georgia, North Carolina, Washington (State), and Washington, D.C.
I'm a first-time NaNo and I'm really PUMPED about doing my first novel. I think the NaNo method is absolutely brilliant, as crazy and wrong (unconventional) as it seems. I feel so much freedom that I don't have to finish with a polished story, or even start with much of a plan. Just hop in the car, start the motor, and put the pedal to the metal--and never look back.
I'd especially enjoy corresponding with writers from outside the US, but my fellow Americans are just as welcome. Who knows what kind of friendships we might forge during this insane event?

Kelly, it IS neat. You learn plenty about writing, pacing yourself, etc., but what you learn the most about is you! It's really pretty cool. When you complete that first novel and see that your count makes you a winner, there's nothing like it. My writing continues to get sharper and more focused by doing this and I hope this is the year I make my big sale. Good luck to you. You will find the nano crowd to be composed of some very nice, very encouraging people. There are a few exceptions out there, but not many. We're all here for the same thing.

kellycarter, thank you. Both grandparents were from the south.
I'll add that I lived in Ohio for a year between times in Chicago. My ex (then-husband) was not too skilled at keeping jobs, so we jumped around a lot. In that year, we lived in three places in Ohio. I moved around a lot, even if it was in the same neighborhood, until recently. I spent five years in a rented condo, and then moved a mile away to the house I live in now.

Hi Everybody! I started out in Southern Calif. From there to Utah, Wash DC. Then went "South" in the 60's to Mississippi. Then Indiana, back to D.C. for a few years, and finally back to California - this time the mountains near the Oregon border, which I loved. Then a quest took me to interior Alaska for 8 years or so, which I also loved. Then back to the mountains in No Cal. It became home until a toxic chemical spill drove me away to the clear air of the New Mexico desert for about 10 years. Two years ago I moved from there to Salem, Oregon where I have relatives. I enjoy the terrain, the greenery, and even the rain. Sometimes I like my relatives. Sometimes they like me. I' glad they are here, and I am too.
Bottom line: I am from Salem, Oregon (now)
I really sound ancient. Anybody else out there over 65?

I've always lived in Canada, although I've been fortunate enough to have seen a small chunk of the world.
Born in Saskatchewan, I spent my childhood in Canada's Far North... father was a bush pilot, and I grew up with the Northern Lights, the Native culture, dogsled travel, deep dark forests, and 'cat' trips across the immense lake (546 square miles, or 1414 sq km). Moved to Montreal where I spent several years, and finally to Ottawa (Canada's capital).
Having taken early retirement this year, I am now looking to change location so I can escape noisy city life and politics... I hope to find some place serene and peaceful in either the countryside or a small town in Ontario or the Maritimes. Being surrounded by nature gets my creative juices flowing, and I now have the time to devote to writing whenever I want and indulging in my other passion, photography.
