Every time I go to write-ins/get togethers, everyone there are all adults. That doesn't really bother me, but I was just wondering, where are all the high school students doing NaNoWriMo?

Addison, at your service!

I'm a junior at Villa. Don't judge. Seriously. Please. I'm not one of those pink-loving-Lilly Pulitzer-wearing-airheads. In fact, I'm just the opposite...or so I've been told.

And as for NaNoWriMo...it seems my friends have abandoned me. Let them have fun with their AP classes, I say. We're going to have much more!

Anyone planning on going to the kick-off party or any of the write-ins, by the way?

Yup, still in high school (unfortunately).

I'm doing NaNo, and I met someone else doing it last night, but besides that I do not know of anyone from my school doing it. My friends thought I was crazy when I told them. >.<

I personally am not going to the kick off or any of the write-ins, mostly because I don't have my driver's license yet, and my parents are not especially fond of the idea.

I am going to die, but I am excited.

I'm in highschool as well, but I won't be attending any write-ins or anything. I'm not allowed to, and I probably wouldn't anyway, TBH.

I'm a high school senior, but I live about forty minutes away from St. Louis so I don't make it to the write ins. But I've got plenty of friends taking part, so we have a write in at a different house every weekend. It's pretty sweet. :]

I would like to point out that all the weekly meetings will be highly chaperoned and parents are welcome to observe if they are worried. I will also answer any questions parents may have about your participation in NaNo.

It would be great to meet our younger members. Good luck to you for tackling NaNo so early in your writing career!

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents - there's always a few of us college kids, too, so while HS would be the youngest, it's not going to be a huge age gap between anyone. Last year one of my friends and I managed to get out every week, and it was honestly one of my favorite parts and what kept me going that second week when my MC was still slamming the trunk of her car and my friend's MCs were still in the woods. That's what write-in's are great for. :)

Agreed. Parents usually know (unless they're totally paranoid) if their kid(s) are sensible or not. My mom, when I explained it fully to her, said that it would be fine to go to the kickoff party. I still have to look at the write-in dates, because I probably won't be able to do them on school nights.

Anyway, the main point is really to let your parents know exactly what you're doing, and not to be dishonest. It works all the time for me.

And I'm excited to be able to go to a NaNoWriMo event!

Yup, I'm a high school senior from Troy, so I won't be going to any write-ins either. I may end up writing at the Panera/St. Louis Bread Co in Wentzville sometimes if I want to be out of my house though if any other of that area high school kids need encouragement to meet. (As long as I'm not fulfilling my slave duties at Kohls next door.)

Yeah, I'm a high schooler, trying out NaNo for the first time. I'm a senior too, and I went to the kick-off. I didn't see anyone (besides one or two people) really who I thought was younger than a college student, but it's nice to know I'm not the only minor in this one and not on the younger kids version.

I'm probably going to a few of the write-ins, just to see what's going on, but I'm not sure.

Was one of the "one or two people" wearing a purple beanie and a blue hoodie? That was me.

Sorry, random.

I'm a sophmore in O'Fallon so I probably won't get to go to any write-ins unless my sister will drive us. I really want to though! They sound like so much fun and I'd get to meet everyone!

Dang, I think I'm the youngest here. I'm a freshman at Brentwood, but I don't think I'll make it to any of the write-ins, if only for the fact that I have massive amounts of algebra homework every night.
Highschool sucks.

Are there no Lindbergh kids here?
(Oh, right, I forgot how few writers we actually have at Lindbergh.)
I'm a senior there, and I was wondering if anyone at LHS...or in the South County area in general, for that matter...was up for a write-in.

I go to Mehlville, but I actually live about 15 feet away from the dividing line between Mehlville and Lindbergh :P I'd be totally up for a South County write-in if you want to get together!

High School FRESHMAN. Anyone out there near kirkwood? I would love a write in near me! I promise I'm not one of those immature losers that everyone thinks freshmen are. I am psyched about NaNoWriMo, and have no idea if I'll finish or not. But I do love the wide eyes and dropped jaws I recieve when mentioning the 50,000 word novel I am writing. Please, KIRKWOOD, represent!!!

Daqu -- Really? Do you live near Von Talge? 'Cause I live in that Blueberry Hill subdivision right off of there, and from what I understand, Von Talge is pretty much the Lindbergh-Mehlville dividing line.

No, I live off of Lindbergh, in the subdivision behind the new Lion's Choice.

I am a sophomore at Clayton, but I actually have not attended any of the write-ins. I participated in nanowrimo last year, but did horribly because I was transitioning from easy middle school to a big workload of high school. This year I'm not as busy and may try to attend the write-ins if my schedule and/or my parents allow it.

hey whooaaa Im a froshie too! i technically would be anyway, if i went to school. i'd go to Clayton, so i bet we're super close to each other. anyway, i'm unschooled. it's kind of like homeschooling, but i design my own "curriculum" and my mother most definitely doesn't sit me down and make me raise my hand to answer questions and stuff. and yes, i sometimes do schoolwork in my pajamas, because i know that's the first thing that comes to your mind. anyway, i quit school last year and it was the best thing i ever did! and now i'm doing NaNo for the first time and i've already written a book since i've been out of school. pretty much, life is awesome out of school. i recommend all of you complaining about high school to read The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life by Grace Llewellyn. it's life-changing and also awesome and cool and true and all that jazz. well anyway, i should really get off the forums at 3am and go to bed. seriously. hope i get to meet some of you at the write-ins though! that would be awesome!
