Okay. It's back again this year, although last year there were so few of us who were old enough to buy their first record on vinyl that I'm wondering if it's worthwhile even starting it this year. But thanks to Kiaace the whooshing over the head noise has come back and I need some conversation with oldies who remember vinyl before it went with decks.

Anyway ... I will turn 50 during NaNoWriMo this year. I think I'm still the oldest WriMo in Singapore but you never know. Anyone out there even vaguely over 40?

Kiaace, you're banned from this topic. Even if I'm in here all by myself talking to myself, you're not allowed in!

Can I just say that if I can find a good vinyl player and had enough spare change to get my music on vinyl, I'd so do it? Music is so much better on vinyl than in digital.

Oh yes, You gotta love all that hissing and wheezing and when the needle gets stuck in the groove and repeats a bit over and over again. I have a player here and one in Belfast but getting the stylus replacements can be difficult. I love it when the dust builds up and I have to clean it off. It's better than popping the paper top in a jar of coffee. Who needs video games.

I visited in the over 50s lounge, even though I'm not technically eligible yet. It turns out Chet-a-box from Malaysia is also over 50, although she says she's not the oldest WriMo in Malaysia. So far I'm still the oldest WriMo in Singapore. But you never know! This might be the year!

I have found someone in Singapore NaNo who is claiming to be 40 but is not appearing on the forums. Ho-hum. Alone again.

I also discovered in the 50+ forum that chet-a-box from Malaysia is 51 and a lady! Don't know why I always thought she was a he. We've had an exchange of PMs. She says she's not the oldest WriMo in Malaysia but the other one is not active. So far I'm still the oldest in Singapore.

There was something else I wanted to write but my mind's gone blank. Definitely a senior moment. Wait ... wait ... wait ... still blank ... wait ... wait ... still blank ... give up. I'll post again when it comes back to me.

Okay. Back again talking to myself. Double senior moment as I just read that I'd already posted about Chet-a-Box. Still can't remember what I came in here to say, though.

I'm popping this back up to the top as I have now entered the last week of my 40s and next week turn into the big five-oh. I know I'm going to be the only WriMo in Singapore in her 50s but I also know we have some in their 40s. So for goodness sake come in here and tell us about yourselves.

My favourite LP was Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns for a long, long time. What was your favourite LP or the first 45 you bought? Or even the first tape you bought?

(kiaace, stay out. Justin, I know you're grown up now, but that goes for you too.)

The first tape that I bought with my own money was bootleg copy of oldies that included hits by ABBA and that Itsy Bitsy Bikini song. I bought it at a little mom & pop near my house that also sold traditional Chinese herbs. I didn't know at that time that the songs weren't sung by the original artistes but it wasn't so bad for a bootleg.

Did she? She didn't admit to it. Or maybe she did in person but not on her profile page.

Anyways, there is a Singapore WriMo out there who's over 50, forget which one, but s/he has yet to appear and own up to being the oldest.

And today is my 50th birthday and my sisters were up at the crack of dawn and decorated the house with balloons and banners and confetti and had all my presents from my family set out on the dining table for me to open. And I got a hat shaped like a cake with candles on it (fake ones, not real lit ones [someone is bound to ask]) and two 'I am 50' buttons.

Then I sent them off to a spa for a massage (my sisters, not the hat and buttons) and I wrote 1759 words, so I'm not letting something like half a century make me fall behind on my word count.

Hey I am 50 (although i keep forgetting and telling everyone i am 52, partly because i took to telling everyone i was 51 the moment i turned 50 so that i wouldn't have a shock when i turned 51, and then got in the habit, and forgot...)
and will be 51 (!) in a few days' time...
Isn't it wonderful we made it so far? The alternative, you realize, is worse...

And, there is 50 and there is 50...
Some of my friends are thinking retirement (some indeed have retired, even from life) while some of us are still going to rock festivals (Latitude, Mumford and Sons, Leonard Cohen), playing bejewelled blitz on facebook, and thinking about the Next Chapter...

I was very surprsied by how young the writers are...shocked even, and my only regret is that when i was younger, i thought i;d put off writing cos i thought i didn't have anything to say...

My son, who is not officially registered, is 12 , stayed up last night and wrote a really scary story. I was so proud of him. Might add his word count to mine, since he's definitely more productive!

Anyway, happy birthday and have a wonderful time.

Hope we make it to the next 50th!

At last! Someone in my age group! There's also an over-50s lounge in the main forum. I have to go check it out now that I'm eligible.

50 isn't so bad. My face hasn't sagged any further in two days and I'm still the same amount overweight. But to be honest, I never really recovered from being 14 and there's that 14-year-old wanting to get out all the time. I've realised that she's probably the one doing all the cursing and swearing, if some of the non-PG posts are anything to go by.
