I am interested in starting a NaNoWriMo group in the Appleton/Fox River Valley area. Would you be interested in this? We could schedule regular meetings (once per week) at a local meeting place - Harmony Cafe, Copper Rock, Barnes & Noble, etc. What are your thoughts on this? I participated in NaNo twice before and ran out of steam 2 weeks in. We could support each other and hold each other accountable to "do this thing!".

I could try - my schedule gets crazy - but this would give me a good excuse not to use my schedule as an excuse...

Brinkman and IIIothrop,

Nice to meet you. I live near Seymour but work in Appleton. We could possibly meet at Copper Rock Coffee on College Ave. in downtown Appleton. Is this location OK? I believe at this location we may also be able to have some of the Lawrence NaNo participants join us. Is there a time and day of week that works for you? I am available most weeknights after 6 PM. I am 47 years old, married and have 2 boys ages 20 and 14. I have started NaNOWriMo before but just could not finish it due to things coming up. I found that I had fun about 5 years ago when we had a Fox Valley group that met at Barnes & Noble. We could alternate our meeting locations based on your preferences. Maybe we could plan on meeting next week and discuss our ideas. Maybe by next week we might have others interested as well. Dave

Sorry, I didn't see your response right away. I'm excited about starting, but off to a slow start. I would be fine with meeting at Copper Rock sometime if that works for you and Illthrop. Have you included any of the Lawrence people in on this idea? After 6 works for me. Some Mondays and most Wednesdays don't. Actually, it's hard for me to say what day works best on a regular basis because my schedule changes constantly with my kids and my husband's schedules.

I am also married and have three sons, ages 13, 7 and 4. I started NaNoWriMo last year, but let changing ideas and lack of ideas get in my way. This year, I intend to finish (even if it's awful.

Hey, I'm a Lawrence kid and would love to meet up somewhere here in town. I am thrilled to hear that there may be a group forming here. Copper Rock would work well, but I will not be free until after 7pm on the weekdays. Tuesdays will absolutely not work for me and the same holds for Saturday and Sunday. Oh, I also know another here at LU who is excited for the start of Nano, I'll try to snag her.

Due to a faulty hard drive, my first attempt was a failure last year. With group support, trudging through to the end may just be a possibility this year!

I just joined the NaNo challenge. A local group sounds great. I'd recommend Harmony Cafe for a meeting place. I usually spend Monday and Tuesday afternoons there stalking the power plugs for my notebook. Tuesday evening is the only time I could not make a meeting.

For kickoff tomorrow, Nov. 1, I'll be at Harmony Cafe by 11:00 AM. and I'll probably be there for three or four hours if anyone wants to come by. It's at 233 E. College Avenue, Appleton. I should be in the mezzanine working on a Macbook. Not sure what I'll be wearing, but I'll have a Thunderbirds lunch box with me; that's the British marionette show Thunderbirds, not the Air Force flying team.

Hi Everyone,

It's my first time participating in NaNoWriMo, but I've known about it for some time now.

If anyone is going to be getting together in the evening this week, let me know.

I've penned about 1700 words, but I'm already hesitant about what I've written.

E.

Yes, I know, I chose Woman because everything I plugged into the computer seemed to be taken. How ironic that Woman was left. :)

I'd like to join you, but I do not have a laptop. I live in Appleton. Is there any way to provide moral support both directions without actually meeting to write together? This is my first year trying NaNoWriMo. I've got 3,000 words so far!

There are computers available at Harmony Cafe.
One day in and I have used up my ideas. How do you come up with more ideas on what to write?

Hi John,

You could try the old, start your next sentence with, "What I really want to write is ..." and then keep going.

About a NaNo get together, does anyone have suggestions of a time to meet? This week Tuesday and Thursday evenings are out for me. Saturday and Sunday are both OK. Otherwise, I'm usually at Harmony Cafe in the mezzanine on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and at Powerhouse comics on Wednesday - Friday afternoons. (The owner is a friend of mine and lets me use the back room when he's open.)

BTW, the reason Tuesday evenings are out for me is there's an informal group that gets together to talk tech every Tuesday, so if any one wants to drop by this Tuesday please do. This week it's from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Tom's Drive In at 501 N. Westhill Blvd in Appleton, by the Hollywood Cinemas.

John - Go to the NaNoWriMo's young writers program page. It has a "Dare Machine" on top that gives sometimes ridiculous, sometimes inspiring, and always off-the-wall ideas of what to write next. Even if it gives you ideas that get cut out later, it gives you something to keep going with (and adding words) for the moment.

I just joined yesterday and of course am behind. I live in Nichols (Seymour school district). Any tips for me other than what's on the boards.

How is everyone doing?
Myself, I've never buckled down to write this much this regularly before, and I'm having a lot more fun than I expected. When people ask what I'm doing, I tell them I'm writing the next Plan Nine from Outer Space.

Can't wait to see it! I'm not getting as much writing done as I'd like, due to a heavy schedule, but I'm having a blast. I want very much now to finish it come hell or high water!

Let's set a time and place to meet this week to write together. I vote for Harmony Cafe, and I'm available most any time. What do you think?

I'm also available most any time. How about if we just pick a time and day and if that doesn't work for somebody please suggest a different time and day?
Wednesday at Harmony Cafe at 5:30?
I talked to Shannon the cafe director and he is fine with us bring along a power strip for notebooks. I'll volunteer to bring it.

I'm in the process of convincing my mom that she should come. (We're both free Wednesday at 5:30, but she's being stubborn for some weird reason. ^_^; ) If I succeed, we'll both be there with our laptops.

Sorry you can't make it Illo. For anyone who can. I'll be on the mezzanine level with a macbook and wearing a white and light blue striped shirt.
