Hello all. I hosted a few write-ins last year in Lake City. (Was it last year, I think it was... maybe the year before, I lose track) Sadly it wasn't the best location/area to do write-ins, though I appreciated very much the brave few who came. I also happen to be a bit shy, but I try. :-)
This year, I'm now on the Fremont/Lower Wallingford border and thinking about doing some write-ins in this area. There are a ton of bus routes nearby - the 26, 30, 31, 28 and several others. Plus it's a pretty easy area to drive to, though parking can be a little bit of a pain in the wrong places.
I was thinking of doing at least a weekly write-in at a new coffee shop near Fremont called Solsticio. It's at 1100 N. Northlake Way and an easy walk from the main lower Fremont hub and just a few blocks from all of those previously mentioned bus routes. There is also ample parking in a lot just a few feet away by the Burke-Gilman trail. The coffee shop boasts great coffee, lots of yummy food choices, free wi-fi and electric plugs galore by all the tables. It's not a huge, but I think it would be great for a write-in group anywhere between 5 and 15 people. And there are seats in the back away from the main area for the shy folks. :-) The only problem is the shop closes at 6pm, but it is open on weekends.
So does anyone have any interest in possibly doing some write-ins here? Or at another Fremont location? I'd love to do write-ins other places as well, but often find I can't get to most of them by bus and I don't do cars at all.

That's walking distance from my house, so I'm definitely interested! I could make it evenings after work, or on weekends.

I live right next to the primary Fremont bus stop, so I'm up for a write-in anywhere within walking distance! I haven't been to Solsticio yet, but I'm happy to come by. I'll poke around for other local places and see what their hours and preferences for crazed writers are, if I find I have the time.

Awesome. Glad to know there are some NaNo folks in the neighborhood!
I was planning to probably be at Solsticio on Thursdays from 5 to 6pm each week regardless. So I'd be more than happy to have fellow NaNo folk around for informal write-ins then. But if folks are interested in doing longer write-ins on the weekend there or elsewhere I'm up for that as well - just shout out what days and times might be good for you! And if anyone has any suggestions for a later evening spot for weekday/weekend write-ins in the area - please shout that out too!
I was thinking if we do get together a write-in group round here for a longer time slot, we could do some writing inspiration stuff too. One I always enjoyed is getting out the Scrabble or Bananagrams tiles out and doing a "word frenzy" where everyone has to spell out a word as quickly as possible from the tiles. Then everyone has to use all the words created in what they are writing that day. Silly stuff like that. :-)
I'm also happy to lug over the dictionary, thesaurus and any other useful items that folks might want. And if we do some games or writing challenges or whatever, I think I can pop for some coffee gift cards or the like for prizes. And ducks! Archie McPhee's up in Wallingford has a ton of fabulous duckies of all varieties.

I live about a mile from there, so I'd definitely be up for it. This is my sixth year doing NaNoWriMo, but I've never gone to any write-ins...I'm going to try to this year!

Thursdays don't work for me, and 5 PM on most weekdays is pretty hard for me to make. 6 or 7 PM starts on weekdays work better for me. I don't know the area well enough to pick out a place for a write-in, though.

Hello again all!
So I've found an alternate location in Fremont that is open until 11pm - although it can sometimes be a bit crowded in the after work/early evening hours. They have wi-fi and electric plugs near most of the tables. Coffee and standard coffee-shop food. And you can of course always hop next door to the pub for a beer. :-)
Cafe Ladro
452 N 36th St
Seattle, WA 98103
(206) 675-0854
So I was thinking of doing my Thursdays from 5 to 6 at Solsticio and anyone who wants can join me. And then maybe putting together an evening 2 hour weekly write-in either on a weekday evening at Cafe Ladro, a weekend day at Solsticio or a weekend evening at Cafe Ladro. Unless anyone has suggestions for another location in the area. Pretty much any time or day is good for me except Mondays.
Thoughts?

I could host a Tuesday night or Wednesday night write-in from 7 to 9 PM (depending on work I could make it over as early as 6). I'm going to be gone Nov 6-8 and I also don't know when I'll be free on Saturdays and Sundays, but I would try to attend some weekend write-ins if someone else hosts.
Edit: Okay, so now I'm busy on Nov. 10. I could host either all of the Wednesdays (Nov 4, 11, 18, 25) or alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Nov 3, 11, 17, 25). Anyone interested?

With darklucia's volunteer to host or co-host some write-ins, I am thinking doing a write-in on Wednesdays might be good. There are write-ins on Wednesdays at Northgate - but it's a two-bus for me, so I'm not going to do those. Also, I was thinking we could maybe do some alternate Sunday write-ins at Solsticio. I plan on going to the Hugo House write-ins on the 1st and 15th - but I'd like some firm writing time set for the other Sundays.
So here's what I'm thinking of, please shout out if you're itnerested in write-ins around Fremont and if these times/days don't work for you. Otherwise, I'll submit them to the events calendar in a couple of days to make sure we get on there.

I'll try to get to Caffe Ladro by 6 on Wednesdays. I'll also try to make some of the Sunday write-ins, though I don't know if I will be able to on the days I go to the Seattle Symphony (2 PM starts).

Sounds fabulous! I'll put you on as a co-host on the Cafe Ladro listing darklucia. But I'm happy to take on the 'official host' responsibility, so don't feel obligated to show up or do anything special unless you want to. I'll be sure to be at Ladro by 6 pm for the early birds. :-)

For what it's worth, the Peet's Coffee and Tea in Fremont is also fairly writer-friendly. (I do most of my non-NaNo writing there, up on the second floor.) Towards the end of day, Peet's is fairly empty/quiet, and for those who prefer tea to coffee there's a wide variety of loose-leaf options one can get in a pot. :)

Yes, Pete's upstairs is a pretty good hangout. I admit to bias when thinking of locations though because I currently have a bum ankle and can't climb stairs. Downstairs at Pete's is really noisy and cramped. Though they do have really good hot chocolate. :-)

Alrighty. Wednesdays at Cafe Ladro in Fremont from 6 pm to 9 pm (or later!) is on the calendar as are Sundays the 8th, 22nd & 29th at Solsticio in Fremont from 4 pm to 6 pm. (The other Sundays I'll be hitting up the Hugo House write-ins.)
Hope to see some of y'all there! I'm also up for any additional impromptu write-ins at other locations/times in the neighborhood.

I stopped in at Gypsy Java Cafe today. Here is their Yelp. It is apparently technically in Wallingford but it's absolutely within easy walking distance of the N 34th St Fremont bus stop. I talked to the barista and asked about things. They are open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, but Saturdays they have a band. But on Fridays, it would apparently be perfectly lovely to have folks come in for a write-in. They have wifi and plugs and tasty food, and a really home-like atmosphere.
I know there are already a couple planned write-ins for the area, but this could be one of those informal-type ones. So if Fridays are the night for you, there's an option.

Just a reminder - the first Fremont write-in is tomorrow, Wednesday at Cafe Ladro from 6 p.m. until people get sick of it or they kick us out. Check the community calendar for details.
I'll be there with my ducks, along with a few little prizes if anyone wants to do a word war. I'll also be bringing along my "Plot Box" of random plot inspiration cards, my Bananagrams tiles for random word inspiration and a dictionary/thesauras/almanac for reference. Wi-Fi should be available and hopefully I can land a space near some outlets. I'll have a powercord for plugging into as well.
Hope to see some folks there!

Thanks to the awesome folks that came tonight! Seem like a rather quiet, very productive group, so I didn't want to bug y'all with silly games or whatever. But I'm always happy to next time if anyone likes.
Hope everyone got some good word count, I was pleased that I got a lot more than I expected. It was a bit crowded and we had some random people sit at our table, but that's Fremont for ya. :-)
If for some reason it should be too crowded to get a table next time around or something, there is always the Fremont coffeehouse across the street as a backup.
Hope to see y'all again next week!

Just a reminder about the Fremont/Wallingford write-in on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. I actually will probably be there by 3 p.m. if anyone else wants to come earlier as well. Plenty of tables, electrical outlets and free wi-fi. Good coffee and lots of yummy food as well. This will be a laid back write in, mostly just say hi and then write your socks off kind of thing. It's a really nice, quiet location that's usually pretty empty on Sundays.

Parking is available behind the coffee show (located next to the Burke-Gilman Trail). There is paid parking in the middle of the lot, but along the back there is a row of free two-hour parking spaces. Local bus stops for the 28, 26, 30, 31 and other buses are about two to three blocks away.

Hey all. Thanks so much to the great folks who came out to the write-in at Solsticio today! Sorry it was a bit more crowded than expected. Normally it's empty as heck in there on Sundays! Also, apologies for not realizing half of you got there before I did, lol and having patience with my shyness. It was lovely to meet all the new folks and see some returning faces from Ladro on Wednesday.
Just a note that should it be too crowded for any reason on Wednesday at Ladro, we can/may move across the street to Fremont Coffee House. Though I will try to get there early enough to make sure we have a table. Also, there won't be a write-in at Solsticio next Sunday (unless someone else wants to host) as I will be at Hugo House for the all-day writing there in Capitol Hill.
Thanks again and hope everyone had some great productive writing!

I guess I should keep an eye on this thread--I'm in upper Fremont near 45th but it wouldn't be too hard to get to any of these places.
Though, if anyone wants to do a write-in at Cafe Vita or Lighthouse Roasters that'd be even better.
I'm running a bit behind schedule due to work being crazy but I'm starting to catch up.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be making it at all today. Woke up not feeling great - flu or at least nasty cold maybe - and certainly don't want to spread any germs around. So many apologies to all. Anyone who does see this and is going tonight to Cafe Ladro at 6 p.m. - if you could put out a duck or a sign and grab a table for folks, that would be awesome! And if it is too crowded, there is always Fremont Coffee House across the street. Again, my apologies, I hate to miss a write-in I scheduled and on such short notice, but I will be with all in spirit trying to get some word count here at home. But I'm sure nobody wants my germiness!

Sorry that you're sick, Seattle Editor (Laura, if I remember your name)! Hope you feel better soon.
Also, sorry to anyone who tried to find me at Cafe Ladro. I didn't make it over there until 7:40, and I I found that it was super crowded but without any ducks out! I even checked across the street at Fremont Coffee House and would have set up there, except they closed at 8.
I will try my best next week to not schedule any late experiments so I can get there around 6, since it seems more likely that we can get a table then.

Hello all,
Unfortunately, I'm going through another round of not feeling too hot. Or maybe it is the same round in repeat. But sadly I just don't think I'm going to make it out to Ladro yet again tonight. Feeling really crummy about that. I hope darklucia will be able to make it there and stake out a table. And I hate it even more because I'm so behind in my word count, but too exhausted to catch up yet. :-(
I am going to try to be at Solsticio on Sunday come hell or high water!

I think I'll be able to make it to Caffe Ladro around 6 this time. I will have origami ducks and my nanowrimo sticker out. Unfortunately I won't have a power cord so if you come and have one to bring, that would be awesome!
Hope you get better soon SeattleEditor!
