For those of you who still aren't used to the new regional headers, I should point out that we have a lovely Google calendar at the top of the forum. We're still planning and adding, so keep an eye on the calendar in the lead-up to November!
Here's the list of what's coming up:
WEST PHILLY/UCity WRITE-INS: Mondays 4 - 6 (or maybe 7), Lovers and Madmen Coffee Lounge, 28 S. 40th St. Philly (look for this one to be extra crazy on the 30th!)
MAIN LINE WRITE-IN: Saturday, Nov. 14th 1 - 3, MilkBoy in Ardmore
(By the way, if people could send me a message or post here if they're planning on making it to this one, I'd appreciate it.)
THE COMMUTERS' WRITE-IN: RESCHEDULED! Sunday Nov. 22 11am - 1pm Cosi in 30th St. Station
Manayunk Write-ins: Sunday the 15th and Sunday the 29th, 12-2 at Starbucks on Main St.
DelCo WRITE-INS: Tuesdays and Fridays 7pm - closing, Borders Bookstore, 1001 Baltimore Pike Swarthmore. (organized by mcuret)

CHESTER COUNTY WRITE & EAT: Saturday Nov. 21st 7pm - ? At The Lions Share Diner (open 24 hours!) 182 S Village Ave in Exton (organized by HeatherJo715)
20th ST. WRITE-INS: Sunday, 11/8 and 11/29, 3-8pm at Square Peg Artery & Salvage (20th & Chestnut St. - on 20th between Chestnut and Sansom)
This list will be updated as new events are added, so keep checking back!
(Last updated 11.03)
Amy and I are still going through the locations that people have suggested for write-ins. Some will happen, some won't, but we're still totally open to suggestions. And if you have a great location that Amy or I can't get to (time, distance, etc) you can always do what the fabulous locals of DelCo have done on another thread and set up your own!
Also, if you can't make it to any events in our area, check out PA:Elsewhere. I got a message from their ML a few days ago that she would be happy to include Philly-area people in her events. She's planning some more online events, so if you can't make it to Philly things you're welcome to take part.

I think I'll be able to make it to all three. Although I'm going to officially say "maybe" to the Main Line one, Saturdays are iffy for me.

I can't make it to the kick off party but I'm planning on attending the West Philly writers. Is anyone else going to that? I get off at 4 and it'll take me about 15-20 minutes to get there and I didn't know who I should look for upon showing up.

I'm going to be at all the West Philly write-ins. I'll try to make it as obvious as possible (which shouldn't be too hard since I have NaNo and Script Frenzy stickers on my laptop and will be sitting with a copy of No Plot, No Problem).

I remember we were talking about a Center City write-in at the kick-off, if anyone could think of a location? There's a pretty large Cosi at 30th Street Station, with lots of tables and hey! Coffee and tea!

there's a nice coffeeshop on 21st and chestnut called Caffienation. it's got wi-fi and a "bar" for you to use your laptop (complete with outlets). the only problem is that sometimes it gets a little crowded ... i'm not sure how many show up at write-ins.
there's also a bus stop that's right outside.
edit:
----------although, writing at 30th street station could be pretty cool. if it got too crowded at Cosi, there are all those benches in the "lobby"

30th St. Station sounds great. I'll add one time for now and figure it out from there (I just started a new job so my hours are still a bit up in the air...)
EDIT:
OK, I'm calling this one the Commuters' Write-In. Wednesday the 4th, 5 - 7:30 at the 30th St. Station Cosi.
Here's a map for people who aren't that familiar with the station (but it's pretty easy to find Cosi there.) http://www.30thstreetstation.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=artic...
So bring your laptops or notebooks and stop by on your way home from work!
Since it is the rush hour and all, there's a chance Cosi might be pretty busy. If that's the case, we might end up spilling over into the lobby area of the station. I'll have my ML shirt, though (which I'll probably just display instead of wearing - you'll see why when you see it) which is the most frighteningly vivid yellow you've ever seen in your life (seriously, it's like highlighter yellow on illegal drugs). It will stand out, so even in the mass of commuters I'll be pretty easy to spot.

Grr. I'd love to make the Commuter write-in, but no luck, I have class. How many of these places are within twenty minutes walk of a SEPTA stop?

nov. 2, 2009 - 16 03
No problem, that time is probably only going to be for this week since it seems to be inconvenient for a lot of people.
I don't have a car, so most of what I've planned is a very short walk from one of the major SEPTA lines (either RR or the El). The 40th St. location is half a block from the 40th St. stop on the Blue Line, MilkBoy in Ardmore is very close to the R5 station, and 30th St is (obviously) right in the station.
I can't be too sure about the locations other people have been setting up, but Google Maps shows the train stops for Philadelphia so a search of the address on there will tell you if there is Regional Rail or El stops nearby.
And we will be setting up more locations throughout the month, so keep checking back to see if there is more that works for you!

Tonight people were there a bit later (I left at about quarter after and people were still there). But the coffee shop does close at 7. I think most Mondays I'll be hanging around 'till closing, so if you can come by for a bit we'd love to have you!

So last night, I went to Lovers and Madmen, arrived around 4:20 and was sad to see there was nowhere to sit. I had no idea who was there for NaNo or just working on school stuff AND shyness kicked in and I didn't ask to share a table with anyone. So I got a latte and left.
Next Monday, I ask for better signs. :)
I did get some writing done on the train and later at the launderette though.

I did get some writing done on the train and later at the launderette though.
Yeah, I feel like apologizing a lot the last few days. I got stuck at work yesterday and didn't have time to go home and get all my NaNo stuff.
Normally I will have stickers and a copy of No Plot No Problem somewhere near me. I also have the frighteningly bright yellow ML shirt, which I'll probably just put on the table rather than wear because it's honestly scary bright. If it's in the building, you can't miss it. And, when I'm not running insanely late getting back from work, I usually try to get there early enough to claim at least a few seats near each other.
For the future, though, if you ever can't spot the NaNo people just ask the people working at the venue. I will always introduce myself to them the second I get there and tell them to point me out to anyone asking where the writers are.
And I know, Lovers and Madmen was packed last night. So much for them not being busy on a Monday. But the good news is that a lot of the people were writing.
I hope you can make it next week, spring. Please don't be discouraged that we're still ironing out a few lumps here and there - write-ins are a great time and a great way to meet people and get ideas.
