Do any of you know of a queer or women's writng group in Austin that actually gets together to learn craft and write about once a week?

I've never heard rumor of one. I would say if you can't find one on Craigslist or Meetup.org, it may be time to start one. I'd certainly be interested.

Yes.

The Austin Java Writing Company has been getting together once a week since the end of Nano 2005. Mondays, 7:30ish to close. You will want to message Mex Headroom. It's not entirely queer or entirely women (Mex, for example, is a dude and straight at the same time) because we have diversified significantly, but we are a significant segment of the population.

Ferraemorsh beat me to it, not surprising since I just got off my ass and logged in for the first time this year. But yeah, Austin Java Writing Co. is queer/queer-friendly. And alcohol, salty language, and general awesomeness-friendly, too.

Ha, yeah, Austin Java Writing Co practically wrote my novel last year for me (Heteroflexible.) Ah, the lovely lovely jokes, irreverent behavior, and neverending stream of colorful language.

Which reminds me, CoyoteBlue, this is a family friendly board, you cussing maniac! (We laugh, as Coyote is among the calm ones in the group.)

But this is why AJWC doesn't post a whole lot, in general, so you might miss us. :)

Chewy. You are shouting. Why with the shouting? Why are you awake? Go to sleep.

jesus-- sorry. I had a mouse malfunction. It won't happen again. Like stank, I've been hoping for a serious writing group with a literary emphasis. (like stank, I like the sound of that). Not that I have anything against elves and fairies. Really.

Well, since you ask : )
It's the Austin Java on Parkway. There's a map on the calendar, which is at the top of the forum - but entertainingly blank at the moment. Must be some problems @ Google. The direct link is here

I too would be interested in that. I have lead characters who are lesbians. I know there is a sisters in crime group in town for women mystery writers. What about with Writers League of Texas?

The Writers' League has a list of Texas writing groups. I run one called Novel in Progress, which is a very serious group and not for the critique-weak-hearted. It's on this list. In the real world, I'm known as Deanna, which may or may not show up in a signature on this post, depending on the whims of the NaNo forum gods.

Here's the big list:

Austin Java Writing Company is not what I call serious as far as craft, but it is an amazingly talented group.

End of PSA.

"serious writing group with a literary emphasis" ... uhmmmm, does that translate to "$3 house wine"?

3$ house wine is to serious literary emphasis as parkway is to 12 and lamar

LLC, you understand precisely one of the many ways in which my name is genius. Like Stank.
