Heyla! This is my ninth year participating in NaNo. I'm hoping to have a blast, even though I won't have any time at all during the rest of October to even think about planning or writing up a storyline, timeline, character bios, or any of that (many of my friends at Elliquiy seem very fond of doing all of the preparation) this year, thanks to my participation in the San Diego Asian Film Festival.

[ On that note, it's our 10th annual festival! Come out and enjoy some awesome films if you have some leisure time :D ]

Anyway! I was wondering if there were any other students at some local colleges, and UCSD especially, who were participating again this year? I'd love to hold a write-in at UCSD, since I don't have a car and can't be bothered to travel very far away for most of the other write-ins, lest I get lost or find myself unable to get back home.

I'll start. :)

I'm a fourth-year, International Studies major, Japanese Studies minor. I'm super-involved in my student org on campus, and this year I'm going to be the maniac volunteer at the San Diego Asian Film Festival this year! I'm looking forward to my ninth NaNoWriMo, but I'm mostly just hoping to get through the month without failing my midterms!

I'm at SDSU, and getting up to UCSD is a stretch for me, but if anyone at SDSU (or anyone who just lives near there) wants to set something up, that would be cool. I'm more than willing to host something, if anyone's interested. I'm a 5th year, sociology major, and hoping that I can get through my last semester without completely screwing everything up...which I shouldn't since I don't want to stay on for another semester.

I'm a grad student at UCSD and this is my first year doing NaNo. A write-in on or around campus would be great! I could use some local moral support.

Hi, I'm a second year Chemistry major at UCSD. I'd love a write-in at UCSD (since I don't have a car either!) This will be my fourth NaNo, and I'm excited for it, though I'm not sure how I'll juggle NaNo and O-chem!

I'm not a UCSD student (but my husband's a grad student) so I'm pretty close. I'd love to go a write-in at UCSD.

I'm a 3rd year Communications major at UCSD and I love the idea of having an on campus write-in. I do have a car, so maybe if we can find more people who do, sometime in the month, we can carpool to one or more of the events! シ In any case, we must do an on campus write-in!

I live just south of UCSD (by Trader Joe's). Would be delighted to hike or bike onto campus for a write-in or two.

hola! 4th year bio major here. This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. I think a meet up on campus would be a great idea, theres tons of coffee shops and the like all over campus. Are any of you guys going to the san diego chapter meeting today?

Hi there,

I'm also married to a UCSD grad student and live in Miramar housing. I work til 5pm but can meet consistently afterwards for a meet up/write-in. I'm down for wherever. Some suggestions:

Vita Cafe at One Miramar
Community Room 2 above Vita Cafe
(both locations above are off campus but the Mesa shuttle has a stop right next)

UCSD Bookstore (though it might get hard as the month goes on)
The Cross Cultural Center (my personal pick as I always see it under used)
Any number of other places in the Price Center really

Thoughts?

Well, if it's a small-ish kind of meet-up during the afternoon, I know that the Contemplation Room in PC-east would be do-able. I'm not sure if we would be able to reserve a room for NaNoWriMo purposes just as an individual without it costing anything, but I'll definitely try to ask (I'm always up near OneStop anyway, because I'm in a staff member in a student org).

If we were to have a write-in, who would be down for Sunday, November 1st, maybe during the late afternoon (like 3:30pm or 4pm)? I can see if any of the rooms in PC (like the Earl Warren Room, Eleanor Roosevelt Room, Thurgood Marshall Room, etc.) in PC West are available.

Other places on campus... well, we could simply take over a section of PC East! There's always lots of open tables during the weekends, and I know there's some nice seating now outside of TapEx. We could also try to use the tables in the Commuter Lounge, outside of the ATMs - there are a few outlets there, and lots of comfortable couches and lounging places. There's also the new Annex near RIMAC - I passed by there today on my way to a meeting, and there was a lot of places where you could sit and study/do homework/whatever.

The afternoon of November 1 sounds like a great time to have a write-in to me.

I can't believe that's a week from today!

Right now, my schedule is totally open on the afternoon of the 1st. Pick a place, and I'll see you there.

Hi, first year bioengineering: premed at UCSD (yeah, this is going to be a long, painful month). Hoping for a 4/4 win this year. I'm up for pretty much anytime if it fits my schedule. Only problem is I have a desktop and no laptop, but I'm willing to do hand writing for the sake of being around other nanowrimo-crazed people.

The 1st sounds like money. I can be there. Anyone know if parking is still free on the weekends? And the commuter lounge across from the ATMs is a great suggestion.

Yup, parking is still free on weekends. ;D

Since it's a relatively open space, I'll go ahead and try to take over a corner of the commuter lounge, then!

Let's make it at 4pm? :)

4 pm? down

the commuter lounge is a good idea. I work at Peet's in the annex, and weekends the lounge and the one upstairs are quite free. if the commuter is full of midterm studiers that afternoon, i say we head over to the annex.

I am not a student and haven't been in forever, but intend to make a diligent attempt to show up at as many write-ins as possible this year.

No reason I couldn't do this one too.

After all, by that time I will probably be behind, depressed about my 49ers being blown out by the Colts and in desperate need to turn my attention somewhere else.

Any Mesa students?

I'd love to join a write in at UCSD, but that's a long bus ride from where i live :/

Or hey! Does anyone take the 41 from UCSD MWF? I'm on campus anywhere from 10 mins to half an hour depending on the 30 (i'm usually there by 2:30... i think...) and would love someone to write/plan/work with on the bus, even if for only 5 mins...

Sounds like a plan. I don't know what I'll be wearing that day, but I'll prop up my all-purpose (fat) binder on whichever table I manage to claim. You can also give me a call if you get there, and you're not sure who I am. :) Just NaNoMail me and I'll pass along my contact information.

(And seriously, I'm okay with random people calling me. People do that anyway from my student org XD).

Ok. 4pm, Nov 1st, commuter lounge. I'm down with giving my cell to anyone else too. I'll wear something unique that can't be missed, possibly my bright orange sweatshirt hoodie.

Hey all, not a UCSD student and probably won't make it to the Nov. 1st write in on your campus, but since this is the college check in thread I thought I would pop my head in and check to see if anyone attended classes at Mesa and wanted to get together for a write-in on campus next week? :)

Hi everybody! This is my first year (FINALLY) doing NaNo but I'm really excited and would really love to meet people for some write-ins. I'm a second year at UCSD and like other people have said it's really hard to get off campus without a car.

Sadly I'm going to be on a PLANE on the 1st and I won't be back until after you guys have ended your planned write-in, which kind of sucks. But I'd really love to maybe do a weekly thing. Would anybody be interested in meeting up every Sunday evening or something? There are really good areas in the Price Center that we could easily take over. I want to get to write with other people!

It turns out that the write-in at SD Writers Ink will be closer for me tomorrow, so I'll be there instead of at UCSD.
