Hi all.
I've been ML for a couple of years and been doing this NaNo gig since 2002. My plan was to turn the reins over to someone else, as I wasn't as on top of things last year as I wanted to be and I wasn't sure how much time I'd have this year. However, as no one's picked up those reins, I might as well offer my services once again.
I threw some thoughts out in the Kick Off Party thread, if you're so inclined.
Beyond scheduling events (Kick-Off Party, TGIO Party, Write-Ins), one of my "jobs" is to help newbies (or anyone else) with any questions or issues that come up. So if anyone hs any questions or issues about NaNoWriMo, you can either post it to this forum or email me at Worldwhispers@Yahoo.com. My other "job" is cheerleading and hopefully, this year, I'll be around more to cheer y'all on.
As far as write-ins go, it works best if people set them up at places near them and post the location time and info to this forum. There is a calendar, but I didn't work with it last year. I'll look into it and get back to you on it. I've tried scheduling them for the group, but, as they say, it's like herding cats.
From the other thread, it sounds like the Montclair area might be best for a lot of people. If Cafe Eclectic is a favorable location, then I can give them a heads up that folks will be coming there. This way they know to expect us and might set off an area.
Lastly, and I'll mention this again, if you ask someone else on the forum what they're writing, please be respectful of their story. It is their story and though an idea might not sound new, fresh or "great", it is their own and they need to write and explore it. There are many stories that don't sound fresh or interesting in a couple of lines, but when you read them, there's so much more.
As writers, we can give away our power too easily by telling another person all about what we're writing, and if they don't react the way we expect, or if they come back with a "less than favorable" response, we may give up that idea and miss out on a great story. I've had this happen way more times than I'd like to say.
So please, share your ideas, but keep criticism of those ideas to a minimum.
Anything else?
'Nuff said.
Happy Writin's!

Cafe Eclectic is fine by me for daytime on weekends. Otherwise, I have a bad habit of getting lost in the not so great areas of Montclair and surrounding towns. Don't assume it's Montclair specific, either. I can manage to wander into the wrong area of any town that has a wrong area. It's a gift, sort of.
My only intention in the Meet-Up Location thread was to try and get some suggestongs to give people an idea of where they might be able do write-ins. Hopefully some more people chime in somewhere with suggestions of locations so we can get close to organizing something resembling a schedule. Perhaps. Maybe.

Hi all! yeah I probably won't be able to make it to any events in Montclair, but it's nice to meet some other people from Jersey and I'm going to try to check in here once in a while at least. any NJ folks participating in the NYC events? I might be checking out some of those.
I believe there was at least one person in this group from Newark... since we're all writerly type people, thought some of you might be interested in going to a (students) reading:
at the KGB Bar on 4th st. in manhattan, Saturday Oct 24 at 7:30pm, and/or
at the Art Kitchen on Halsey St in Newark, Tuesday Oct 27 at 5:30

Hello everyone...I am totally new here and will hopefully find my way around these threads. Hoping to accomplish some good writing...also hoping I'm in the right region, no worries, I've left a trail of bread crumbs to find my way back to HQ.
----------Best of luck to everyone with their writing.

Gary,
The only reason I didn't offer my ML services is that you've made it clear in the past you don't consider Morris County to be Northeast (though if we aren't northeast, lord only knows what we are).

Hillary,
I considered Northeast NJ as Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, and any other counties in the immediate area. Morris could either be northeast or "Elsewhere, NJ", which should've been Northwest, NJ. A number of people from Morris County didn't want to travel to Bergen or Passaic locations, as they were rather far, and chose to go to the "elsewhere" gatherings. I have no problem with people deciding to join whatever zone they wish, so long as they realize most events (parties and write-ins) set-up in the Northeast group will be set up by people in Bergen and Passaic counties.
If Morris County folk have joined the Northeast NJ group and want to set-up write-ins or parties out there way, that's fine with me.
If someone from Morris County wanted the position of ML, they could've asked, and I probably would've turned it over. The orginal point was that people from Morris County didn't know where they belonged and I suggested that they'd be better in the "Elsewhere, NJ" group instead of traveling all the way out to Bergen County.
All that being said, I hope I didn't offend any Morris County folk. Again, you're more than welcome to be a patr of this region.
Hillary, you are more than welcome to be the unofficial ML for the Northeast region this year (it's too late to be the official ML). The only thing I've got set-up is one Kick-Off party on Friday night.
If you'd like to talk more about planning events this year, drop me a line at Worldwhispers@Yahoo.com.

I'm not sure what wording in my reply has lead you to feel "rather unwelcome", but as I said, anyone is welcome in any region. Done.

Hillary,
I apologize if I've made you feel, in any way, unwelcome. It was not, nor is it, my intention to make anyone feel unwelcome here.
Peace,
