Bangor Area Kick Off Party!

Okay, I know I sound impatient here and I apologize, haha. But I know there are definitely some Bangor/Orono/Old Town people out there (On the shout-out thread, I think the last count was at about 8 or so in total). Especially some people right on campus. I know there are. :]

I'd really like to not be the only one at a kick off party. :( That's not very fun!

Sooo...suggestions?

There's no Machias area ML (or WriMos, for that matter) so count me in! :D Um...the only places I really know of in Bangor are the mall, the cinema, and Great Skates. XD Oh, right, and the Oriental Jade. ^^ So I'll just sit over here and wave at anyone else who decides to show up.

Yaay! Okay, well I'm thinking the best place to be able to have it would be in Border's. I believe they have a little cafe in there, so we could all kind of put some of the tables together and talk. :] I'm working on getting some more people together, so hopefully it'll be fun.

Machias though, well well well. That's quite a drive! I really hope we can get more people so you don't drive all the way out here for no good reason!

Eh, two hours is nothing compared to the four it takes to get to my grandmother's. Is there any chance it'd be this Friday or next Thursday, though? We're taking my useless sister to the airport. Except that those are both school days. DX Nevermind that, then, the truant officers will be rounding us students up faster than you can blink if we skip school for a party. XD

Well...either of those days COULD work. It would have to be earlier on in the day, for either of them, I think. But, you're right, they are school days. If you're already missing school to bring your sister to the airport, then it could work. :) We'll definitely see what the other options are.

I'll be closer to the Augusta area for kick-off, but I'll be in Lincoln for Thanksgiving week, so I was wondering if anyone would want to meet for a write-in either Black Friday or the following Saturday (I suppose it depends on how brave we are XD). Since it would be so close to the end of the month, it might also count as a Thank God It's Over party.

We can definitely try to plan a write-in for one of those days in Bangor! I'm not so sure that I'm going to be in the area for those days, I'll actually be in the Lewiston/Auburn area...so I'll probably try to see what's going on for Write-Ins that weekend. But I'm sure there will be some people in the area who'd still love to! And I might be back in town for work anyway, depending on my schedule. But we'll definitely keep you updated! :]

So...at this point, probably not this Friday, considering it's tomorrow and nobody's really noticed yet? :( My mother doesn't want me to skip school anyway...even though tomorrow's going to be a slow day. PFFT. Anyway...*goes back to lurking again*

Unfortunately, I feel like there might not be a Bangor Area Kick Off party, because there's been very little interest. We are however, hopefully going to get something small together at UMaine before it starts. I've tried to spread the word on campus, so hopefully something there will work out. I'll keep people updated on write-ins as well. :]

I live in Old Town, so if you ever get anything going on campus, I'd love to hear about it so that I could attend. This is my first year and, honestly, I don't have much an idea (which is a terrifying thing, I admit), but I'm still going to give it a shot! So yeah - if you can, let me know if you start meeting on campus or in Bangor.

I'm still trying to plan something before the actual challenge starts! So new folks can ask questions and get some helpful tips and packets I now have to hand out. :] I'll keep this updated. It will probably be Wednesday or Friday night somewhere on campus. Not sure where yet, but I'll figure that out as well! We'll have several throughout the rest of the month as well. :]

OKAY, There WILL be a NaNo Kick-Off in Old Town on Friday at 4 PM at the Tim Horton's. :] I should be there for quite a while, so feel free to wander in an out whenever you please. I'll try to have some goodies for people if I can. But it'll be a good chance for those of us in the area to check in with each other and get some inspiration.

Now to find out how to add it to the calendar....hm.

I'm so excited for this, and I can't wait to meet some new people!

I don't think I'll be able to make it on Friday..school, obviously, so I'd have to leave in the middle of school, and we're wearing our Halloween costumes to school that day...you probably don't want to see me show up in an Optimus Prime outfit. XD I'll be able to make it to a write-in, though. :D

That would be a boatload of fun, though, to show up at Tim Horton's wearing a ton of cardboard and saying something cool, like "at the end of this day, I SHALL HAVE A DOUGHNUT."

Aww, that stinks. Definitely feel free to come to the write-ins though! I'll have the dates posted sometime soon. I have to sit down with a calendar and figure them all out. :] Feel free to come in your Optimus Prime suit if you wish! hahaha.

If you're planning on attending, please PM me so I know roughly how many people to expect. Haha. Just so I can make copies of stuff and make sure we have an area in the restaurant for all of us. I will probably have something you'll be able tor recognize me by. I'll wear something vibrant. :]

What can I do to help?

I'll swing by the Tim Horton's in Old Town (assuming I can find it--not familiar with that area) tomorrow for the kick-off, unless other plans appear here before then.

I'll be coming from Husson (where I teach) so if the person in Brewer needs a ride, I can pick you up on the way and return you safely back home.

Yay! The more the merrier! I'm not sure how many people we'll have at the very beginning, but as soon as everyone starts showing up, we can start the festivities. I have a few little fun, perhaps a tad cheesy, writing/getting to know you/getting super pumped about NaNo activities planned, and I'll probably be there for a good couple of hours, so feel free to stop by! It's not at all difficult, actually.

In fact, if you get off exit 193, and take a right off the off-ramp, just continue on down the road a ways. You'll eventually cross a small bridge, and then come to an intersection that has a McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell, etc. If you continue straight through this intersection, Tim Horton's should be right there on the left after McDonald's. :] Simple enough, I think!

I'm so very excited to see everyone!

Just a reminder, Tim Horton's may or may not have wifi. This has not been determined yet, so, bring your laptops if you wish, but they are not required! :] (Hopefully we can find a place that will have wifi in the area for later write-ins. Not that we really need the internet to distract us! haha.)

I'm pretty excited to see all of you too! :] And I'm getting a little weirded out here, Britney. XD Not only are we pretty much the same age but we apparently have roughly the same hair colour~ I'm beginning to think we're almost the same person.

How are the write-ins looking...one on each Sunday, maybe? The person I'm getting a ride with *coughmothercough* wants a buttload of time to prepare herself mentally to go to Bangor. She's a little off, I think. XD

We could definitely have write-ins on Sundays! Anywhere anyone wants them. We could even have on this Sunday! I wouldn't be able to do anything until later on in the night, but I could definitely be there at some point. :]

Sunday afternoons are great for me, but I would have to leave by five. I'm off on Tuesdays, all day, and Wednesday evenings. I work Fridays and Saturdays, working one night/one day; the following week, it normally switches. The joys of retail! But I'm willing to get together with anyone, anywhere. So, I think we should have a write-in tomorrow. I have plans til about 4, I think, but I'd be able to be there after then. My meetings might get out early, so I might be there before that. But if people would like to meet somewhere, we could definitely do that. :]
