Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the area, so I was wondering if those of you who are better acquainted with the town know of any spots that might be particularly conducive to productive writing. These days I've been frequenting the CC's on Coursey, but I need to spice it up. I crave variety!
So, tell me all about Baton Rouge's well-hidden (or not-so-well hidden) secrets! It doesn't have to be a coffee shop kind of place (though I do love coffee shops) - all suggestions ar welcome. As long as I can take my laptop there and pound out my daily 1,667 words, I'll give it a try.
It would be extra awesome (though not essential) if the place you suggest:
-has plenty of power outlets
-has free wi-fi
-is on the eastern part of town
Thanks!

I don't know too much about the eastern side of town. i do know that Perks coffee and tea (2008 Perkins Road) is a pretty cool spot with free wi-fi. It's got a nice vibe and they let my improv troupe perform there Friday nights. the rest of the week it's pretty quiet.

This would fall into the category of interesting. Capitol Grocery down in Spanish town. Although to be honest I don't think it fits any of your criteria. I believe there are 1-2 plugs available, the wi-fi is very spotty and it is not in the east. But you are sure to meet lots of charactors in a very distintive area.Just don't go at lunch. It gets very busy, although the food is really good if you do go. PJs coffee downtown is also a good place. It has the wi-fi and the outlets. and the coffee. Actually most places I know are kinda downtown. v

I'm fond of Brew Ha Ha on Jefferson at Government. More Mid-city than East side, but it's still pretty close. Free wi-fi, some plug-ins and a little room in the back with cushioned benches where I finished up my very first Nano novel. Sigh. The memories.
Also you can try out Insomkneeacks on Florida. Definitely on the East side of things. I haven't been, but it's known as a coffee shop/artists haven, so I imagine you're going to find wi-fi and power outlets there. :)

Most of my writing over the past year or two has been done at Highland Coffees right off LSU's campus. Free wi-fi, a decent amount of outlets, and a beautiful little courtyard that is a perfect little hideaway for hammering out sentence after sentence.
On the east side of town, I'm not so sure. I used to live over there, but I did most of my writing at home then. Good luck!

I also frequent CC's but I go to the one on Jefferson Hwy. It's pretty nice place to write and also Whole Foods has wi-fi and when its nice weather like it has been, its a great place to write.

Definitely CCs on Jefferson. I think they've gotten used to us there. Everyone that works there is always really nice. Last year I accidentally left my laptop charger and they kept it for me until I could come back and get it.
I also really like PJs coffee downtown. It's in the same building as the Shaw Center, kind of on the corner of the building. There's also one on Essen, I think, that has some very comfy armchairs that I take advantage of. :)
I also agree Whole Foods is nice, too. I like to get a salad off of the bar and go sit outside with my laptop when the weather is pleasant. It's a nice environment for writing.
